I Am Your Safe Haven

"Alright," Luke said after we settled the bill. "Who's ready to see Safe Haven?"

Anna smiled and at the same time, her and Hannah said, "Me!"

I looked at Luke and we laughed. "Are you ready for this?" I asked him. "A chick flick?"

Hannah and Anna crossed their arms and Anna said, "What's that supposed to mean?"

Luke nudged me as we were walking across the parking lot. "Dude, already in trouble!" he muttered.

Hannah stopped Luke, crossed her arms again and said, "And what's that supposed to mean?"

"Umm... Well... Umm..." Luke said and Anna laughed.

"Holy crap! In this short time I have known him, I have never seen him speechless before!" Anna said, making Hannah laugh.

"This is the first time I have heard him speechless too!" Hannah said. "Well, at least for today."

Anna laughed and said, "See you at the theater!"

She got into my car and as soon as I started, she said, "I really Like Hannah."

"She's a good girl," I replied.

"Then what's she doing with Luke then?" she joked, making me laugh.

After what seemed like hours of previews, the movie finally started. About an hour into the movie, Anna let me put my arm around her and soon after that, she eventually leaned into me.

Through the movie, I could feel her tense up. I thought back to the conversation we had in the food court a week earlier and I couldn't help but wonder if her marriage had been bad. Even though I was really curious, I didn't want to ask her right away because I didn't want to ruin something before it even started.

Once the movie was over, both her and Hannah were wiping tears from their eyes as we stood up. When we walked out of the theater, Hannah said, "That was so good!"

"I know!" Anna said, turning to her. "I wanna see it again!"

"When the guys go on a road trip, we will have to do that!" Hannah said.

"We must be chopped liver," Luke said to me as the girls were comparing the book and the movie.

"Let them be," I said. "Girls will be girls."

"I won't ever admit it in front of the guys but I did like the movie," Luke admitted.

I nodded and said, "It was good but I couldn't help but wonder if Anna's husband abused her."

Hannah and Anna had gotten ahead of us so they couldn't hear our conversation. "I had been wondering the same thing," Luke said. "She told Kevin it was a stupid mistake on her part."

"During her flashbacks, Anna tensed up. I think she experienced some of those things and in a way it scares me," I said.

Luke looked at me and said, "I hope not. She's too nice."

"She is," I said. "What scares me is I am really starting to care for her and can't stand the thought that a guy could hurt her."

Luke smiled and said, "Brayden my boy, you are whipped!"
