Whoever She Is

I woke up around 7 am the next morning. I walked downstairs to find that my dad was not up yet. So I walked into the kitchen and decided to make him breakfast. I made pancakes, eggs, and bacon. I made a pot of coffee and poured myself a cup. I made our plates and sat them on the table. I washed all the dishes that I dirtied up. When I finished the dishes, my dad woke up and walked into the kitchen.
“Good Morning! You’re up just in time! Breakfast is ready!” I smiled
We ate breakfast in the quiet and I clean the remaining dishes after we were done. We went into the living room and watched the news. Around 9, Dad said he had to run some errands. He left shortly afterwards. I was in the middle of watching a movie on Lifetime Movie Network when the doorbell rang. I opened the door to find Jared and Kennedy at my doorstep
“Well good morning guys” I smiled
“Morning Danielle! We found your phone!” Kennedy smiled as he handed it to me
“Noisy thing it is! It kept ringing all night! You must be more popular than we thought!” Jared joked
“Hahaha! Well some of my friends get worried when I don’t answer them so they keep sending things.” I explained. I unlocked my phone to see:

“Well let them know you are alive!” Kennedy told me
“I will. I wouldn’t want a search party to be formed” I joked
“Hey later today, the guys and us are going to lunch. Do you want to join us?” Jared asked
“That would be great” I answered
“Awesome! I’ll text you the details! Don’t worry we already put our numbers in your phone! Jared laughed
“Well we have to go to band practice! We’ll see you later!” Kennedy yelled as they left
“See you later! Thanks for bringing me my phone! I hope you didn’t have to go to far out of your way to bring it” I yelled back
“No problem at all! You live across the street from our friend Pat! We had to pick him up anyway!” Jared yelled as he got in the car and they drove to the driveway across the street. A long haired teenage boy walked outside and got in the car. And they drove away.
I went back inside and sat on the couch. I unlocked my phone and read my messages. They were from my best friend Chelsea and a bunch of other friends. I decided to call Chelsea so she wouldn’t freak out. It rang twice before she answered
“Where the hell have you been!” she yelled
“Sorry Chels. I left my phone at my dad’s friend’s house last night” I laughed
“Girl! I thought you were mad or kidnapped!”
“No I am fine”
“So is this friend of your dad’s a new lady friend?” she asked
“Not that I know of. But they did seem awfully cozy” I laughed
“GET IT PAPPA T!”
“Shut up!”
“Anyway, so Brian is having a party tonight. You HAVE to come! It’s his birthday”
“I dunno Chels. I just got here yesterday” I said as I bit my lip
“Come on! It won’t be fun unless your there! You can stay with me tonight! Please! Please! Please!”
“Okay! Okay! Let me talk to my dad. And I’ll let you know!”
“Yaaaay! Okay. I have to go. Text me later”
I hung up the phone and layed on the couch. I hear my phone beep after about 15 minutes of peace and quiet. I grabbed my phone and unlocked it

Hey we are going to Panera Bread at 1. Do you want to meet us there or do you want us to pick you up?
Before I could reply, my phone started ringing and I saw my dad’s name and picture.
“Hey Daddy” I answered
“Hey Princess. Can you do me a huge favor?”
“Yeah sure. What is it?” I asked
“Can you get the case briefing off my desk and bring it to the office? Something happened and I had to come in and work on this case”
“Yeah. I’ll be there soon”
“Thanks Baby”
I looked at the clock and saw it was 12:30 and decided that I needed to get ready. I walked upstairs to my room.
To: Kennedy Brock
I’ll meet ya’ll there. I have to stop by my dad’s office first anyway.
I went into the bathroom and applied some makeup. I fishtail braided my hair because I didn’t want to mess with my hair today. I changed into a pair of peach colored shortsand a denim top. I slipped my cream colored toms on and grabbed my phone and purse. I walked down to my dad’s office and found the case folder he told me about. I grabbed my keys off the counter and walked to the garage. I got into my car and opened the garage door. When I backed out of the driveway I saw two guys around my age across the street. They were staring at me as I drove off. I slid my sunglasses over my eyes and drove to my dad’s office. I walked into the office and searched for my dad. I found him in the conference room.
“Hey Dad” I said as I walked into the room.
“Hey sweetie” He greeted as he looked up from his work
“Here is the file you asked for” I said as I put the file on the conference table
“Thank you for bringing it here. So what do you have planned tonight?”
“Well I am about to grab lunch with Jared and his band”
“Sweetie, there is something I need to tell you about Jared and his mother”
“That you are dating Ms. Vanessa?”
“How did you know?” he asked shocked
“Dad, I am in high school. I can tell when people are flirting. And ya’ll did that all night at the barbeque” I laughed
“Are you okay with it?”
“Dad, it’s been almost 3 years since the divorce. I want you to be happy. She seems great. And Jared seems really nice” I smiled
“Well I am glad you like her. We are going out to dinner tonight. Are you okay by yourself tonight?”
“Well, Chelsea did invite me to spend the night tonight. Brian is having a party and they wanted me to come” I told him
“Well there be drinking at the party?” He raised his eyebrow
“Yes, there will be” I knew better than to lie to either of my parents. They trust me to be responsible and make the right choices.
“If you drink, do not drive.” He told me
“Yes sir! Well I am off to lunch with the guys. I’ll probably head to Chelsea’s around 5. I love you Daddy. Bye” I said as I headed out
“Bye sweetheart. Be safe!”
I got into my car and made my way to Panera Bread. Traffic was heavy. I pulled into the parking lot at at 1:10. I walked in to find Jared in line ordering his food. I walked up behind him
“Hey! Sorry, I’m late. Traffic was horrible!” I said as he hugged me
“It’s okay. I just got here too.” He said. I walked over to order my food. Jared and I waited for our food. When it was ready, we walked over to a table full of guys that I assume were his band mates. Kennedy looked up when he heard Jared and me talking.
“Danielle! I saved you a seat next to me!” I walked over to the seat in between him and the boy I saw get in his car yesterday. He had shoulder length brown hair and he reminded me of a young boy. Next to him was a guy with rust colored hair wearing a zombie t-shirt. He was next to a tan, muscular looking guy with brown hair who looked related to the boy I was sitting next too. Then there was a tall, lanky brunette. He was gorgeous. I looked away quickly before I was caught staring.
“Danielle, this is Pat our drummer, Garrett our bassist, Tim our manager, and John our singer.”
“Hello guys. It’s nice to meet ya’ll” I smiled at them. They all replied with some sort of greeting. I looked over to Jared who was placed between Garrett and Tim.
“So Jared, I found a new piece of information that you did not share with me yesterday.” I smiled towards him.
“So Terry finally told you! I didn’t want to say anything because he wanted to be the one to tell you. Are you mad?” he looked worried
“No! Not at all! I am so happy he is dating! I have been worried about him being lonely since the divorce! And your mother seems amazing!”
“Good! Because they really like each other”
“I’m glad. He is the happiest I have seen him in a while!” I took a sip of my tea and started eating my salad. As I was eating I overheard part of Garret and Pat’s conversation.
“Dude a shark could totally kill a zombie!” Pat argued
“No way! A zombie could totally take a shark!” Garrett argued back. I swallowed my food and cleared my throat
“Actually in Zombi 2, the zombie was attacked by a shark, he ripped the chest out of the shark. Therefor the zombie won”
“You know about Zombies?” the boys said in unison. This got the attention of the whole table. I laughed
“Yes. I have an older brother. HE always got to pick the movies we watched. I love Zombie movies thanks to him”
“You are awesome! We are going to get along great!” Garrett said
“We are going to be best friends!” Pat yelled as he hugged me
“Dude calm down. Don’t scare her off yet” John warned
“Sorry” Pat frowned
“No its okay. I would love to be your best friend Pat” I hugged him back
We continued talking and eating. I noticed that John kept staring at me. I didn’t know why. So I pretended that I didn’t notice. My phone beeped so I slide the lock bar on my phone

Did you talk to Poppa T yet? Cause the guys are asking if you are coming. Cole is going to the liquor store and wants to know if you need anything.

He said yes. I have a half bottle of Grey Goose, but that won’t last us all night. Have him pick up some whiskey. Tell Cole I’ll give him the money when I see him. I’ll head your way in about an hour.

I blushed and took a sip of my tea. The guys were in the middle of a conversation and I was completely lost.
“So you in Danielle?” Tim asked
“Wait. What?” I asked looking up from my phone
“We have a show tonight and wanted to know if you wanted to come” Kennedy told me
“Oh I’m sorry. I already have plans tonight in Scottsdale. I will defiantly come to the next show though!”
“Oh do you have a date with your boyfriend?” John asked
“Um no. I don’t have a boyfriend”
“Then who have you been texting that’s making you blush?”
“Just a friend of mine” Then my phone beeped. It was sitting on the table so John grabbed it. He read out loud

“What are you going to do to him Danielle?” Pat questioned
“Sounds like our little lady friend has a fuck buddy” John answered
“Actually no. He wanted to know if my dad would write him a letter of recommendation for the fraternity he is rushing at ASU. He wants in really bad and my dad is Alum. So can I please have my phone back?” That was not a complete lie. My dad did say he would write him a letter for Kappa Alpha.
“Yeah sorry. I was just messing with you” he said as he handed me my phone
“So what are you doing tonight?” Garret asked trying to change the subject
“It’s my friend’s birthday. So we are going to dinner and hanging out” I lied. I didn’t want them to know I was going to a party and that’s why I couldn’t go.
“Oh that sounds fun.” Garret said with a strange tone
“You okay?” I asked
“Yeah. It’s its just, when Jared told us that you were from Scottsdale, we pictured this snobby bitch. And you aren’t like that at all. We really want to hang out with you. But we don’t want you to think we don’t like yours Scottsdale friends when we don’t know them. It’s just hard for us to imagine you hanging out with all of those stuck up bitches and douchebags.” Garrett explained
“They aren’t as bad as ya’ll think. I promise. It’s not like I am going to act like a bitch because people around me do. I don’t degrade people nor do I judge them” I responded. The truth is, it upset me that they think so low of the people I hang out with. They don’t even know them and they hate them. My phone rang again and I saw a picture of my mom kissing my cheek and me making a puffing my cheeks out with the word Mommy over it.
“I gotta take this. Sorry guys.”
“Hello?”
“Hey baby!”
“Hey Momma! How’s England?”
“Oh it’s foggy as usual. WE are about to go on the London Eye and we wanted to call and check on you”
“I’m good. I’m at lunch with some new friends. I’m going to Scottsdale tonight for Bri’s birthday”
“Oh tell him happy birthday when you see him. Oh sweetie, I have some bad news”
“Really? What is it?”
“Well, I talked to Grayson today. He has to take a class this summer. So he won’t be able to come home for the summer.”
“Oh that stinks”
“I know sweetie. I’m sorry. We have to go. Love you!”
“I love ya’ll too”
I smiled as I hung up the phone and walked back to the table.
“Everything okay?” Jared asked
“Yeah. My mom and stepdad checking in on me”
“Where are they?” Pat asked
“They are in London, for their honeymoon. They are traveling Europe for their honeymoon.”
“Oh, so that’s why you are staying in Tempe for the summer” he smiled
“Yepp. I didn’t want to spend the summer in a house by myself” I laughed
“Alright, well we have to go get ready for our show. It was great meeting you. Hopefully we will see you a lot this summer” Tim told me. We got up and walked to the parking lot. All the guys gave me a hug and they got into their cars. I got into mine and drove home.
