Is Anything Meant to Be?

When Bella and Jake got back to the rest of the group, Lexi was off sitting somewhere drawing as usual. Bella nudged him and told him to go talk to her if he’d like. Jake nodded, and went over to her. Jake:” Hey, mind if I sit with you?” Lexi moved her bag to the other side of her, and nodded without looking up at him. Jake:” What’re you drawing?” Lexi moved it to show a rough sketch of Jake, Quil and Embry. Jake looked at it and she saw the glimmer in his eyes, Lexi:” You like it, why?” Jake:” They’re like my brothers, we’re close. Lexi nodded and put the sketch pad down, stood up and stretched. “Bella didn’t say how much Lexi could look like her and a little like Edward as well. She also didn’t say how beautiful she is either,” Jake. “Don’t get ahead of yourself, I’m not beautiful, nowhere near beautiful,” Lexi. Jake looked up at her, curious look across her face, “Why do you say and think that?” Jake. “Cause I’m not. I’m just a normal girl so to speak. I’ve nightmares where wolves help me from my neighbors, the only thing is that I fear he’s coming back to finish what he started,” Lexi. He saw a small glimmer of fear in her eyes for a moment, Jake:” Can I see what else you’ve drawn, or are they private?” Lexi grabbed her sketch pad and handed it to him, but he saw her looking away. “Why’re you looking away?” Jake. “I get this vibe that you’re not a hug fan right now of the Cullens. I think one of them is really cute,” Lexi. “Don’t worry, my best friend’s in love with one of them. But your really are beautiful Lexi!,” Jake. She looked at him, peaking through her hair, she saw him smile. It wasn’t a smile she had seen or heard him to have had before, “Wow, is Jake really honest! He’s really cute too, wonder why Bella didn’t pick him instead of Edward? Just imagine the possibilities, maybe there could be ways around certain things if you’re with a vampire, but I don’t know. Could this really be happening, not only am I in love with Jasper from the moment I’ve met him, and now Jake. Jasper also liking me, and now could Jake really be liking me too?” Lexi. She unblocked her mind so he heard most of it, but not the ending. Jake:” You really think I’m cute? I am still trying to wrap my head around why she chose him over me, if you do find out please let me know and I’ll let you know if I find out first.” Lexi let her guard down, not knowing and told him it was a deal. Lexi:” Yes, I do think you are cute! So what do you think of them?” Jake:” I love them, I mean when you’re drawing you’re really into it, the expression and body language shows it. Plus when I look at the outcome, you’ve captured everything about the person or animal. Your work is remarkable.” he saw her blush, Lexi:” Thanks, I didn’t know that I captured their essence of the people or animals I draw.” Angela saw how both Lexi and Jake were talking and getting to know each other. Bella looked at her, and she was still watching Lexi and Jake, Bella:” Why’re you watching them?” Angela:” I don’t know, there is just something different that I see in her when she’s near Jasper and now while she’s talking with Jake. Bella:” I’m not sure what it is with Jake, but the real reason your cousin is so different or seems different when she’s near Jasper is that she has a crush on him. She really thinks he’s cute, so she’ll get a little nervous around him and her eyes seem to light up from what I’ve noticed.” Angela turned and looked at her, shocked. Mike and everyone was ready to go, but Lexi didn’t want to, she was having a good time with Jake. Bella:” Hey Lexi, we’re all ready to go.” “I can give you a ride if you’d like,” Jake. Lexi was really serious about having him bring her home, it’d give her more time to hang out with Jake. When Jake offered to drive her home, Bella saw Lexi’s face get excited yet also drop a little. She recovered, Lexi:” I’d love that, but maybe another time Jake.” Bella gave her a minute, Lexi looked back at Jake, grabbed the picture she drew of him in wolf state the first night she saw him in the dream, and handed it to him. Before she did she grabbed a pen and wrote a little note on the back of it for him: Thanks for talking with me, I’d like you to have this picture why, I don’t know just a feeling. Oh, and if you ever want to talk or hang out give me a call, I’d like to hang out with you again! She handed it to him, and ran over to the van. When Lexi got in the van, Jake looked at the picture and turned it over to read it, when he read it he smiled and immediately put her number in his phone. As they drove off, Bella kept glancing back over at Lexi who was nothing but smiles and in her own little world.
When Bella and Lexi got into her truck after arriving at the camping store, Bella asked if she was ok. Lexi:” Oh yes, I’m fine. Why?” Bella:” Since we left La Push, you’ve done nothing but smile.” Lexi:” Oh sorry. I just had a really good time. Hanging out with you, my cousin and Jake. Plus I got to thank Jake for finding me in the woods. Bella:” Speaking of Jake, you two seemed to hit it off!?” Lexi:” I guess, I just like hanging out with him. I don’t know what it is but he’s so easy to get along with.” Bella:” So, still thinking Jasper’s hot?” Lexi:” Of course Jasper’s hot so to speak, but Jake’s good on the eyes, oh boy is he good on the eyes! Please don’t tell him I said that, I’m waiting to see if Jasper can do what Edward does with you.” Bella nodded and pulled up to Angela’s house. Bella:” Text me if you want to hang out tomorrow.” As Lexi got out, she stopped and turned back towards Bella, Lexi:” Bella, I’m glad that you’re my friend and don’t think I’m crazy. At least I know I can talk to you and the Cullens about things now. If you see Edward could you tell him that I have a very strong feeling Jeremy will or is coming back to look for me?” Bella nodded, and told her that she’s glad she’s not the only one who has to deal with the whole vampires and werewolves thing. She told Lexi that she’d let Edward know, and that she doesn’t need to worry. She said bye to Bella and went into the house, locked the door and went up to her room. She pulled out her sketch pad again, and finished the picture of Jake with his two friends before she started another one of just Jake by himself. When she thought of him smiling earlier at the mention of him being called cute, she couldn’t help but smile. She dated the bottom of both drawings, and made two more copies one for his friend Emrby and the other copy for Quil. She signed the one of Jake and left a little note for him saying this is when she called him cute, and how he reacted.
She finally changed (http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=50757095) and went to bed. In the morning, she showered and grabbed her sketches she finished last night. She grabbed another paper and began experimenting with some colors before adding some color to the pictures. The sketch of Jake, she spend the most time on last night. Lexi had the urge to check her phone for some reason, and saw a message, she listened to it and by the end of it she was nothing but smiles, it was from Jake. Jake:” Ah hey Lexi, I was wondering if you had plans today? Let me know and call this number, my dad might answer.” She wanted to hang out with him, but wanted to finish the pictures first, she was almost done and when she finished she called the number. Billy:” Hello, Black residence?” Lexi:” Hi, this is Lexi. I was just wondering if Jake was there to talk to for a moment?” Billy:” No he’s not, he just stepped out for a moment. I will gladly tell him that you called though.” Lexi:” Thanks Mr. Black sir. I appreciate it sir.” “Awe…missed me, did ya?” Jake. Lexi looked around curious, got up and glanced outside in the yard but he wasn’t there. “Ah ya? How can I hear your thoughts if you’re not close?,” Lexi. “Well, I’m a mile away and you were probably already thinking of me! My money is that I was already on your mind” Jake. “Hey, that’s besides the point ok…So why’re you a mile away?” Lexi. “Bella gave me directions to your house. Thought I’d surprise you with a visit!” Jake. “Hmm, sounds pretty good to me. Now I can give you my surprise!!” Lexi. “What surprise is that?” Jake. “Nice try Jake, you’ve to wait and find out!” Lexi. Within about ten minutes he was there, and she ran down the stairs to let him in, then closed the door locking it back up after he was in. Jake followed her up the stairs to her room, Jake:” So where’s this surprise you have for me?” Lexi grabbed the one of him with his friends, Lexi:” I made two copies so both Quil and Embry have one for themselves.” Jake looked at them and smiled, Jake:” Wow, remember when I told you I think you’re cute? Well when I said that, you had this sweet yet innocent sincere look about you…That’s this!” She gave him the other picture and looked away. “I think it’s so cute when she gets nervous and looks away like that!” Jake. Lexi pretended she didn’t hear that, and peaked over at him. Jake:” Whoa, this is really good. And you saw this expression when you said you think I’m cute?” Lexi nodded, Lexi:” Why?” Jake:” Well between you, me, my dad and my friends, they say this is the reaction to some of the times when Bella and I hang out.” Lexi:” Jake, how come you never told her how you really feel about her? I know she’s in love with Edward, but part of her loves you and when he was gone, you could’ve told her.” Jake:” Mostly cause of a few reasons. Since she laid her eyes on him, she has been in love as you know, like love at first sight. When he left for a while I thought she was beginning to like me and I know she does love me, part of her that is, but she’ll never love me the way she loves him. It would’ve have mattered if I told her or not.” Lexi felt bad, she felt the pain he was feeling and wasn’t sure why or how that was possible. But Lexi feels the same way with Jasper. Jake:” So what would you like to do?” Lexi:” Can I give Quil and Embry their pictures?” Jake thought for a moment, contacting Sam to see if it was ok, and then looked at Lexi. Jake:” We’re gonna meet them at the beach, I let them know by texting the.” Jake was trying to find the best way to bring up to Sam that Lexi knows partly about them being wolves but not fully, that he’d like to tell her, but he wasn’t sure how Sam would react. Jake:” Ya they said they’d meet us at the beach.” She grabbed her bag, put her sketch pad back into it, as well as her phone and smiled at him. Lexi:” Do you know anything about werewolves, aside from the movie hysteria?” Jake remained calm, but told her he has no idea and asked why she was asking. Lexi:” I just get the feeling Bella knows something but isn’t or can’t tell me. When she saw the pictures I drew of the wolves, she looked shocked but like she was hiding something.” Jake:” You can read people sometimes?” Lexi:” Well no sortof. I sense things sometimes like how people feel, so sometimes.” Jake looked at her a little and smirked.
They talked and were at the beach before they knew it. Jake:” Ready?” Lexi nodded with a smirk and as they walked over to the log where both Embry and Quil were waiting, she shivered. Jake took his sweater off and she shook her head no, she ran back to his car and grabbed her jacked. Jake(whispered):” Don’t communicate with your thoughts.” Lexi looked at him and asked why, Jake:” I will tell you one day ok.” She looked in his eyes and nodded, he knew she saw nothing but honesty. Jake:” Quil, Embry this is Lexi, you met briefly yesterday. She wanted to give you both something.” Lexi grabbed the pictures carefully out of her sketch book, and handed them each one. They looked at it and back at her, Jake knew they wanted to communicate by thoughts, but he also knew that Sam warned them. Lexi:” I just thought that if you saw the one I made for Jake, you’d want or would like one for yourself. If you don’t like it then that’s fine.” she was becoming nervous, and Embry staring at her wasn’t helping at all. “Really wish he’d stop starring at me,” Lexi. She blocked out most of it when she remembered Jake telling her not to. Quil picked up on it at first and he looked really surprised, while Embry still kept staring at her. Jake looked at her and asked if she was ready to go, she nodded and as they were walking away Embry finally said something. Embry:” Thanks!” Lexi looked behind her and saw him looking at the picture, he looked up at her again and said it again. Lexi:” You’re welcome. Jake told me that you two are his close friends, so I thought I’d help with that!” Embry:” ya and you did a great job. We all look happy, thanks. It’s really good and I like it” Lexi:” Thanks, I’m glad you like it Embry.” Jake saw his face light up the moment his name came from her mouth. Jake and Lexi got back into the car and began driving away, he glanced over at her asking what she’d like to do. Lexi:” Well are there any cool places in these woods you could take me to?” Jake looked at her, “NO, we need to talk. I don’t know her or anything about her. I need to process if she could be a possible threat to us!,” Sam growled in Jakes head. Jake:” I’m gonna bring you back home, hopefully I can hang out with you another day, but I’ve to go and take care of something with my dad.” Lexi knew by his voice that “dad” wasn’t the right choice of word but she didn’t say it or push it any further. She knew one day he’d explain everything to her.
Day at the Cullens:
Lexi grabbed her phone and called Bella when she got back home from the little bit of time with Jake. Lexi:” Hey Bella, I wanted to ask you something.” Bella:” Ok sure, what’s up?” Lexi:” I was wondering if either the both of us or just I could hang out with the Cullens today?” Bella:” Ah, wanna see Jazz don’t we? I’m heading to their house anyways, I will be at your house soon. Get what you want to bring.” Lexi agreed and old her she’ll grab a few things, when she hung up, she grabbed her bag making sure her things were still in there and put her phone back. She put her keys to the house in the bag and then her ipod as well. When she was done, she had some idea for some reason to grab some extra clothes, so she did. Bella pulled up as she headed back down the stairs, she walked out of the house locking the door and smiling at Bella. Lexi:” Ah Bella, have you gotten the chance to tell Edward and his family what I’ve been thinking of?” Bella:” That you thin Jeremy is out there and coming back to finish what he started?” Lexi nodded saying yes, so Bella went on. Bella:” Ya and if he does find you or find out where you are, the Cullens will protect you especially Jasper!” Lexi got the feeling she said Jasper to cover up what she really wanted to say. Lexi:” So ah, speaking of Jasper…How’s he been?” Bella smiled and told her, as they got closer Edward knew Lexi was there since she was thinking of Jasper. Edward:” Hmm, Bella brought Lexi, and brought up Jasper’s name since Lexi’s thinking of him now.” Carlisle:” She didn’t block her mind and you can see what she’s thinking?” Edward:” Oh I’m sure her mind’s blocked, it usually is but if she concentrates on something or someone that’s all I get. I keep seeing her imagining she’s kissing Jasper!” Edward glanced over at Jasper who was smirking, Edward walked away and let Lexi know how he was smirking. “Is he excited or some what excited for me hanging out at the house today? Just as long as Esme & Carlisle don’t mind that is?,” Lexi. “Of course they don’t mind and you’ll have to wait and see Jasper when you get here,” Edward. “Hmm, fine…,” Lexi. Edward started chuckling and then heard the truck. Jasper looked out the window and went to the door. Edward followed him as did both Carlisle and Esme. Bella got out, then Lexi and Esme pulled her into a hug. Esme:” Oh Lexi, I know you still might not fully understand this all, but I hope you know that if Jeremy is looking for you and does happen to find you here, we will all stand up and protect you!” Lexi looked into her beautiful golden eyes, and knew she meant every word. Esme stepped aside near Bella and Edward, Lexi smiled nervously looking at Jasper. Jasper:” Hey Lexi!” She smiled and walked by him, gently touching his hand, Bella nudged Edward and they watched as Jasper looked down at their touching hands and looked at her with a surprised look. He couldn’t help but give her a smile, and both Bella and Edward saw. Lexi let go of his hand and went into the house. She went through her bag pulling out a folder, she pulled out two pictures. One was just Rose by herself while the other was her and Emmett. Then she handed one of just Emmett to him, and he smiled. She gave one to Bella of her and Jake, she gave Alice two of her and Jasper along with a note:
Alice,
I know you seem not to have a problem with Jasper beginning to like me, wanting to push his abilities to become more like Edward, but I just can’t help to feel responsible for breaking up you and the one you call your MATE. I just don’t feel right. Yes it seems to me like love at first sight the moment I saw Jasper, but I still don’t like the fact that I’m becoming the one to break you two up. I cam over today to tell him that he needs to just give up and stay with you, to stay away from me. That he won’t be seeing me except in school but won’t bother with him, I will avoid him, if he can’t handle it or I can’t then I’ll beg my mother to send me back home if I can’t transfer to another school. Maybe we are both better off not attempting or tempting fate, I should just get closer to Jake or his cute friend. Maybe I’ll be better off with Jake then with Jasper, yes it’ll break my heart but what brakes my heart more is coming between you and him. I’m sorry for any hard feelings even though most would say my feelings are the only ones that count. Thanks Alice, later could you thank the rest of your family for me to. They don’t have to put up their second life to save me, a no one who just happens to have abilities much like you. I’m sorry…

Lexi wasn’t paying attention and didn’t notice Alice reading it now, while she gave Edward another picture and she gave Jasper his two with the not for him. Alice saw jasper getting a note as well and wanted to grab Lexi to explain it to her but waited a few. Lexi gave Carlisle and Esme two that were framed, one of them both and one of the “kids”. Lexi put her things back in her bag and snuck out the side while they all seemed to be exchanging glances at each other’s pictures. She didn’t care where she was walking, just wanted to walk away. “So much for a day at the Cullens like I had regionally planned,” Lexi said aloud. Alice was at her side dancing around in the blink of an eye, and cheery as usual. Alice:” Lexi I know you think that, but Lexi I really am fine with you possibly dating Jazz. I can’t see it right now since Jazz hasn’t made his decision. I think that you’re thinking this way because not only do you find Jazz attractive but also Jake and his friend as well. You might not feel right, but that’s for now. You’ll feel right soon enough, don’t worry. You telling him to give up or in a note won’t stop him, he’s determined to be like Edward and he really is beginning to like you Lexi, we can all tell. He just doesn’t want to harm you in any way, but if and when Jeremy comes, you can guarantee Jazz will rip him apart and be the first one out of us to get his hands on him. Besides, even if you did somehow convince him to give up, and you avoid him, Esme and Rose will want to hear goodbye’s from you and why it is goodbye. I just wanted to say that…” Lexi watched her leave while Jasper came out followed by Emmett, who went over to her and gave her a hug. Emmett:” Thanks Lexi, those drawings are great. I swear you look like both Bella and Edward sometimes, did you know that?!” Lexi was about to say something but Jasper surprised her by walking closer to her then before. Lexi:” Wow, you’re closer then the last time!” Jasper:” Ya I know. Please I hope Alice spoke to you and told you how she feels so to speak. And that you’re just nervous and scared about the whole thing.” Lexi:” Actually, scared is not the right word for me. I’m nervous yes, but I get nervous about a lot of things, but I’m not scared. Not of you, or your family, or even those nice wolves I’ve seen sortof. Maybe Alice is right, I don’t know what to do, yes I really like you but I also am starting to like Jake and maybe one of his friends. But I know it was love at first sight the moment I saw you in school.” He smiled when she looked away nervously, Jasper:” Please, I’m beginning to like you even more too and I don’t want to lose you, I don’t want to see you at school and not be able to talk to you or gently graze your hand like you did mine a bit ago. I don’t want you sitting at another table by yourself or with your cousin, looking and feeling both sad and heartbroken. My whole family likes you and we will stand up to protect you in a heartbeat if and when Jeremy comes for you.. I know I’d definitely protect you and be the first to rip him from limb to limb. Lexi even if you did leave, you’re part of this family and will always be part of this family!” She smiled and for some reason or another Lexi started blushing, Lexi:” Fine, I guess I’ll stick around, but only if you’re serious about not wanting to lose me.” Emmet watched as Jasper moved closer to her a little, Lexi smiled since she knew that that was her answer. “I feel fine, do you think we could try no babysitters soon?,” Lexi. “Why, do you think Jasper will be able to handle himself?” Edward. “Look how far he is from me now and I know he doesn’t want to harm me in any way. I don’t think he will either, but if it makes you feel better feel free to check with Alice,” Lexi. Edward looked out and saw Jasper has made progress in the past few days, it took him longer but he knows how determined Jasper is. Edward:” Alice, can you see anything in regards to Jasper and Lexi?” Alice closed her eyes and focused for a little then looked at Edward shaking her head no. Alice:” Why what’s going on?” Edward:” Lexi knows he won’t harm her in any way, and she doesn’t think he will even try anymore. I get the feeling she feels safe with him, she wants to know if there will ever be a day or moment when they won’t need babysitters. She wanted me to check with you if it made me feel better and I was also wondering.” Alice:” Don’t you think that if we left them alone, if Jasper did in fact try to do something, not only would she know and scream in her head so we’d all be there in a flash, but Jasper would warn her as well? Plus he wouldn’t want to upset Carlisle anyways, so she could be right.” Edward sat there thinking and knew Alice was right. She stayed near the door and watched Jasper’s future carefully, as Edward went out to let both Jasper and Lexi know. Edward:” Ok, I want to try something if you’re both up for it that is.” Jasper looked at him with a sad yet frightened expression on his face. Jasper:” You want us to try just me and her out here without Emmett, Carlisle or you, don’t you?” Edward:” Yes, Lexi feels safe with you. Yes she knows what you are but she knows and believes that you wouldn’t hurt her, she believes you won’t. Alice pointed something out as well, she says that if you feel yourself losing your grip or control, you will warn Lexi, plus since I can somewhat read her mind, if she notices she can say it over and over so we will be out her.” Once Jasper heard all that, he agreed and Edward told them that everyone’s right through doors of the house so it won’t be long for any of them to be out there. He looked at Lexi who was standing with the breeze blowing through her hair, looking beautiful. She turned and looked at Jasper with a smirk, he smirked back and looked at Edward. Jasper:” Ya, I’ll give it a shot.” Edward smiled at them both and told Jasper that he knows and believes he can do it, then walked by Emmett telling him to follow. Edward kept his eyes on Alice for any signs.
Lexi looked at Jasper with a sweet bright smile, Jasper eased himself into it. He moved a few small steps but stopped as he could smell her. He clenched his fists together to try and steady himself. “Tell him he doesn’t have to breath, next time he wants to try to go hunting so he’ll be full and won’t want you,” Edward. Lexi:” Edward wants me to tell you that you don’t have to breath. That if this is too much the next time we try if you want to, you should go hunting so you’re full and won’t want me.” Jasper:” I know, and I am relatively full. It’s a little harder then I thought but between us, I’m glad you’re my blood singer!” She looked at him and he could hear her heart flutter, surprisingly it made him smile. He took a few more steps closer and told her to act normal. Lexi:” It’s really beautiful here, the cold doesn’t bother me much like it did when I first moved here, but I’m used to it I think. But I love the natural aspect and how mother natures is just beautiful!” When she looked back at Jasper, he was a few inches off of being arms length. She blushed, biting her lip which made Jasper smile. Lexi looked up into his amazing golden eyes, and stumbled a little, Jasper was at her side steadying her to make sure she was ok. “Whoa, Jasper’s actually at my side and he’s actually touching me! Wow, and all I can really think of is how I want to kiss him,” Lexi. She looked over at him and looked away, since he was still holding onto her, she blushed against his hand and heard what he was thinking. “Oh my, she’s absolutely gorgeous up close. A lot like Bella, clumsy which I could use to ‘help’ her as I just did. I’m standing near her, holding onto her…I can feel her pulse through her clothes, yes I’m tempted but something in those eyes of hers makes me not want her that way. Her eyes, I just want to hold her, kiss her!,” Jasper. He let her go and ran deep into the forest, Lexi standing there playing what Jasper thought over and over in her mind. “I can’t believe she didn’t pull her hand away when she grazed it earlier or when she touched it just moments ago! I need to think things over,” Jasper. Alice came right out when Lexi was about to go in, Lexi:” Oh sorry Alice, I almost ran into you there.” Alice:” It’s ok, don’t worry. I know you must be wondering what’s going on in his mind now. Just know that you’ll be happy and he’s right. I think you make your impressions on people with your eyes, that’s why Bella gets along with you so well, well one of the reasons. But we fell for your eyes.” Lexi:” Ok, I guess. So Jasper and I do end up becoming closer?” Alice smiled and fluttered away, well with Alice, she more liked pranced away, leaving Lexi walked into the house grabbing her bag and then put it down. She saw a piano and looked around to see if anyone was watching her or paying attention to her, before she walked over to it she sat down and began playing. The music just drifting out through her, and going all about the house. Alice:” Sounds like someone found the piano!” Bella:” Lexi went off to draw. I don’t think she can even play the piano. But I’m sure she has many hidden talents or secrets that’ll surprise me still. So Alice, will Jasper decide if he can really do it and really wants to be with her?” Alice looked around to make sure that Lexi wasn’t listening before she spoke. Alice:” Jasper knows his decision, he’s just sorting some things out but he knows he wants her, he needs to be with her. He’s also a little worried still on the fact that he can still hurt her, that that’s there and he doesn’t want it to happen.” Bella held Edward’s hand as Alice said how Jasper’s feeling, she knows it’s the same way Edward was and still is with her. How he doesn’t want her to hurt in any way shape or form. Bella:” I think Jasper and her would be great together. I just hope he really realizes that before Jake or Embry try to step in and do something. Embry looks like he’s about to imprint, all he does is stare at her and drool. Or that’s what she told me, except the imprinting part of course.” Edward:” Jake only does because she reminds him and resembles you in so many ways.”
