An Unexpected Twist

Month 6 (Tarin)

Month 6

Tarin

I had already moved into Mathieu's apartment. It was so different. I didn't have Amy with me all the time, but she was over pretty much whenever Mat was gone. Amy and he decided that there should always be someone with me incase I went into labor. I felt a little like a child, but it made me more comfortable to not be alone.

I sat down on the couch with my laptop to do some Googling. I had been doing lots of that lately. I need to read about exactly what I had gotten myself into.I learned that most twins are born premature, and that I could probably have the girls without a c section. That also meant that I would probably end up going into labor in two months.

“Tair?” Called Amy from the kitchen.

“Yeah?” I asked back.

“Are you still up for that game tonight?”

“Yes!” I exclaimed. I read online that the noise was completely safe for the girls, and I definitely need to get out and do something that a normal 23 year old would do. ............................................................................................

Mat gave me a kiss as he left to to the Verizon Center to get ready for his game. “Good luck, babe!” I called as he closed the door behind him. Amy and I were going to get ready for the game then go to dinner before with Rachel and Brandi.

I got up and stood in the mirror for a few seconds. What was I going to wear tonight? I was thinking yoga pants since it was still pretty cold. I showered and let my hair air dry.

I decided to put it into a ponytail. I didn’t feel like styling the mass of blonde hair. Even though the pony was on the top of my head my hair still reached the middle of my back. I loved my hair. Finally I wore my baby shower gift from Amy and John, an extra large Capitals maternity t shirt. I loved them. I threw on some Uggs and waited for Amy. As usual she looked super cute. .........................................................................................

We met with Brandi and Rachel, who had invited Karie Erskine, at a restaurant that was a block away from the Verizon Center. Our dinner was great and I got tips from Brandi and Karie about dealing with children and a hockey schedule.

After our dinner we walked to the Verizon Center, got our tickets, and found our seats. We were right next to the Capitals bench. The boys were playing the Hurricanes. I was so excited for this game!

The lights went out and both teams came out. The crowd cheered like crazy for the Caps. During the first period, Nicklas Backstrom scored on a power play and Holtby saved 12 shots. When the period ended the score was 1 - 0 Caps! Amy went with Rachel to get more beers for everyone but me.

The second period started and thirty seconds into it, Backstrom passed the puck to Erskine and he scored! Karie jumped up and cheered like crazy with the rest of the crowd, she was beaming. The boys coasted through the rest of the period, and were up 2 - 0 at the end.

There were a lot less shots on goal from the Caps and a lot more from the Hurricanes in the third period, but halfway through Mat passed the puck to John and John scored. At the end of the game, Holtby had saved 33 goals and had his 5th career shutout. Everyone in our group had something to celebrate.

Amy and I sat on the couch and waited for our boys to come home. When they finally walked through the door, Amy and I clapped for them.

“Good game, babe!” I said as Mat sat next to me on the couch.

“Nice goal, baby.” Said Amy as she walked towards John. They kissed my the door. I put my head down on Mat’s shoulder.

“Eww gross.” I scoffed sarcastically. “Get a room.” Amy rolled her eyes at me,

“John, I don’t have a roommate anymore.” Said Amy. “So my place is free tonight. If you wanna-”

“Oh God!” I shouted. John smirked as Amy pulled him out the door. I sighed and rolled my eyes.

“Mat,” I said. “All of the nursery stuff is coming in tomorrow. We have two cribs, a changing table, a dresser, and a rocking chair. Do you think I could incentivize some of your friends on the team with beers if they come help put all the stuff together?” Mat laughed.

“Of course.” He answered. “I’ll get them to come tomorrow after practice.”

“Awesome!” I said. “We also have to talk about names!” I smiled and poked his arm. “I was kinda thinking we could do something French.”

“I would love that.” He said. “But we can talk about those in the morning because you need to get to bed.” “You’re right.” I said as he helped me off the couch.

“G’night babe.” I gave him a quick kiss and headed down the hall to our bedroom.
