Why Wait?

Chapter 3

Rylan
“C’mon Val, do you want to have a sleepover?” Mar asked, grabbing the toddler’s hand.

“Bye daddy!” Val gave Milan a toothy grin and followed her cousins down the hall to the Marchands’ hotel room.

“Goodnight baby girl!” Milan called after her and then turned to me, “M’lady.” He bowed.

“Well hello kind sir.” I smiled and he straightened back up.

“May I?” he asked and held out the room key. I nodded and he opened the hotel room door. He turned back to face me and bent down the pick me up bridal style.

“Oh my goodness.” I let out a squeal as I wasn’t expecting it. He laughed and carried me into the room, kicking the door shut and bringing me into the living room area, dropping me on the couch.

“Sorry,” he laughed, when he realized the couch wasn’t as soft as he thought.

“Already abusing me.” I joked, shaking my head and he rolled his eyes, leaning over me to kiss me gently. Just as I started getting into it, he pulls away, shaking his head. I gave him an innocent, questioning look.

“We haven’t had our first dance yet, Mrs. Lucic.” He said, pulling his phone from his back pocket.

“We didn’t even have a reception, Mr. Lucic.” I retaliated.

“C’mon. Get up.” He grabbed my hand, pulling me to my feet. I took my place beside him, placing one arm on his back and the other in his awaiting hand. He pressed a few buttons on his phone, and then tossed it onto the couch, mimicking my position. The beginning notes of ‘A Thousand Years’ by Christina Perri started to echo throughout the room.

“You remembered.” I smiled.

“Of course I did.” He smiled back and I rested my head on his shoulder as we began to sway to the melody.

“I’m happy.” I said and he looked at me questioningly.

“Why do you say that?”

“Because for the first time in my life I’m actually satisfied. Our relationship has been crazy, and now…now I’m happy.”

“Me too, babe.” He smile and leaned down to kiss me swiftly, before spinning me out when the beat picked up and twirling me. I laughed and went along with it. When the beat slowed back down, I came back and wrapped my arms around him, hugging him. He did the same and we continued to sway until the song ended.

It was quiet for a moment, a comfortable silence, before the next song came blaring through the phone’s tiny speakers. We jumped apart as 50 Ways To Say Goodbye started playing very loudly. Milan dove for his phone and turned to volume down. We both looked at each, still in shock at the loud song surprising us, and then broke out into a fit of laughter.

“Ooh!” I squealed, “I just remembered I have something for you!”

“I thought we weren’t doing gifts?” Milan frowned.

“We aren’t. This isn’t a wedding present. That’s for later,” I winked and he smirked at me, knowing what I meant.

“Well then what is this?”

“I’ll be right back!” I kicked my shoes off and then went into the bedroom, pulling out a box from the closet that I had wrapped earlier. I walked back into the room with Milan with the box behind my back.

“This is a present, you liar!”

“It’s not though. I mean it kind of is, but…just open it.” I handed him the box and he rolled his eyes, ripping the wrapping paper and taking the lid off. He looked at the gift and then looked at me, and then back at the gift.

“Wha-Are you-Does this mean-?” he stuttered. I only smiled and nodded while I pulled out the tiny onesie, that was obviously too small for Val.

“I'm pregnant.”

“Rylan, this is incredible! I’m so happy!” he exclaimed and jumped up, pulling me into a tight hug and a sloppy kiss.

“Me too!” I beamed up at him.

“This is a lot different than my last conversation when I was told I was going to be a father.” He laughed and I couldn’t help but giggle.

“Well that’s encouraging.”

“I love you. I love you so much!” he was hyped up now, and he kept kissing my face.

“I love you too, you goof, now let go!” I laughed, trying to push him away, but he kept his grip tight and pulled me even closer to him, now attacking my neck in playful kisses.

“Never!” he laughed and pulled me into a serious kiss, not wasting time in bringing it to the next level.

The next morning, Milan and I met Mar, Brad and the kids downstairs for breakfast.

“Hey lovebirds.” Mar smiled when she saw us.

“Daddy!” Val jumped out of her seat and ran over to Milan. He picked her up and kissed her head, giving her a quick hug before setting her back on the floor.

“Did you have fun with Auntie Mar and Uncle Brad?” he asked and she nodded.

“Yeah, we made a fort and Evie and I slept in it!” she exclaimed and smiled big. She then grabbed Milan’s hand and mine and led us back to the table, sitting herself between the two of us.

“Someone seems rather content.” Brad laughed at Val, causing the toddler to nod her head. Milan looked at her plate and picked up a knife, cutting her pancake into bite sized pieces.

“And look at you, you look…almost glowing.” Mar looked at me suspiciously.

“Well, you know. It’s the newlywed glow, I guess.” I blushed and looked over at Milan.

“No, I know that glow.” Marliegh pushed, “Let’s go for a walk, shall we?”

“Well, there’s no need, now that you’ve figured it out.” I smiled. Marliegh smirked at me and Brad’s eyes went wide, looking back and forth between Milan and I.

“No freaking way! Are you serious? You two sure didn’t waste any time last night.” He laughed, sitting back in his chair.

“What’s going on?” Val and Evie asked at the same time.

“Val’s gonna be a big sister.” Marliegh was still wearing a smile, quite proud with herself.

“Really?! There’s a baby in there?!” Val asked, placing her head into my stomach, “Baby! Can you hear me?!” she yelled and we couldn’t help but laugh. Some people looked over, but smiled knowingly.

“The baby can’t talk yet, sweetie.” Milan said and Val lifted her head up.

“I’ll teach it.” She said before taking another bite of her pancake and looking at Evelyn, “Me and Evie. We’ll teach the baby to talk.”

“Right!” Evie smiled.
