I Can't Believe How Bad You Got Me

They'll Be Surprised

“Jake,” I cooed at my husband. “She’s beautiful,” I went on, admiring the way he cradled our little girl so tenderly.

She came all of sudden though. I was sleeping and was woken up by painful contractions. They were enough to wake Jake up. Eventually, he convinced me that I needed to go to the hospital. I was against it since my water hadn’t broke. However, just as they put me in a room, it did. A little over an hour later, we were finally united with our baby girl. I have never seen anything so perfect in my life.

“She looks like her momma,” he smiled up at me while he continued to gently bounce her.

“I’m sure she has some of your features,” I assured him.

“She has your eyes,” he grinned.

“We both have blue eyes, Jake,” I giggled still as he came over and carefully sat next to me.

“Yeah, but she has yours,” he chuckled and held her back out for me.

I just let him think that. She was adorable no matter whose eyes she had. My little girl. She was everything I thought she would be… and so much more. But the pure joviality that filled Jake’s face when he first saw her almost brought me to tears. I knew he was excited for our baby to come, but… this just proved it all.

“Oh my gosh,” I gasped as a thought came to me.

“What?” Jake looked at me in a slight panic.

“We never called anyone,” I covered my mouth with my free hand.

Jake’s lips parted so that he could say something. That never came though. Instead, his eyes grew wide. He seemed in shock now.

“I’ll… be back,” he said and hurried out of the room.

As he shut the door, I couldn’t help but giggle. My brother and best friend may be a little upset, but… when they look at our little girl’s precious face, they’ll be so happy.

Once Jake came back, he had a bit of a relieved look on his face. That quickly left when he took his daughter from me. His smile took over while he cradled her tightly against his chest.

“My baby girl,” he cooed down at her.

“Who’d you call?” I asked before he got too focused on the baby.

“Kirstie…”

“Is that it?” I wrinkled my face up at him. There’s so many people that he needed to call!

“Everyone was there! It’s not like I needed to,” he chuckled.

I just glared at him playfully. Everyone was in town for Kirstie and Ryan’s wedding. It’s a good thing they all came early. They’ll get to see our baby girl right after she was born.

“Have you told your other brothers about her name?” Jake asked softly once he leaned into me so that both of us could see her.

“No,” I couldn’t help but grin.

“They’ll be surprised,” he grinned as well.

“I can’t wait,” I sighed happily and rested my head on Jake’s shoulder.

He chuckled, telling me how big his smile had grown. For now until people came, this is how the three of us stayed. We have only been a family for a handful of minutes, but… it already gives me the greatest feeling knowing that these two beautiful things are mine and no one cane take them away from me.
