I Can't Believe How Bad You Got Me

Already?!

After dinner that night, I threw on my coat and went outside. I just wanted a second to myself. Nothing had gone badly. I just needed a little time alone. While everyone was caught up talking, I did this. There was a pond in our backyard where all of us used to go swimming in the summer… if we weren’t at the track of course. It’s frozen over now obviously. I stood at the small dock and leaned against the railing, letting the cold, crisp air fill my lungs. Felt so good to be home.

While I was out here, I heard the crunch of snow behind me. I glanced over my shoulder to see Jake making his way to me. His curls were covered with a black beanie. That alone put a smile on my face. Once he caught it, his grin started to form as well. Aww, my Jakey!

“What are you doing out here by yourself?” he asked when he was close enough.

“Just taking it all in,” I answered.

“Aren’t you cold?” he questioned before wrapping his arms around me. It gave me the chance to see his reddened nose already. Aw!

“Well, I got you now,” I beamed.

His smile grew a bit before he leaned down to give my lips a quick peck. As he was rubbing his cold nose against mine, he whispered that he loved me. Ah, gosh he’s so sweet.

“You seem to be enjoying yourself,” I couldn’t help but bring up.

“I like your family,” he confessed.

“And they like you,” I countered. Even though it’s only been two days, I know they like him.

“Like to pick on me…” he muttered.

“Now you know how I felt for 18 years!” I giggled.

“You poor thing,” he chuckled too.

Silence fell over us then. It was a calming thing though. The slight whip of the wind gave us some sounds every so often. Even though it was chilly, there was something peaceful about it.

“I’m glad you asked me to come,” Jake started softly.

“I’m glad you agreed to,” I smiled up at him.

“I felt like we’re getting to the point where… things like this need to start happening,” he countered.

“What… do you mean?” Things like this? What?

“Meet each other’s families, going away together…”

I just looked at him. What is he talking about? We go away together for his races! What’s him coming home with me? This boy…

“Ok, I’m just trying to say, I think it’s time that we start thinking about progressing our relationship more,” he put it differently.

“But… where else could we go besides…” I started to ask, but stopped myself. He wasn’t talking about… marriage was he? Isn’t that… kind of soon? I mean, I love this man to pieces, but… marriage? Already?!

Before I could finish, or he could comment, we got called back inside. Everyone was curled up somewhere in the living room, getting ready to watch a movie. While Jake and I curled up in a chair to watch it, I couldn’t help but think about what he said. It was weird and… I don’t know how I feel about it! I’ve never been this serious with someone before. How am I supposed to react? Urg! I just wanted a normal movie night, Jake! Now my minds wandering elsewhere!
