Sequel: Non Sequitur

Cinematic Confessions

Serendipity

Corey and Autumn walked into Brent and Brianna’s home and were immediately met with a bunch of noise. When Brianna had said they had invited a bunch of people over, she wasn’t kidding. Nearly half the team with their significant others and families, as well as Cade and Katherine were all in the living room.

Patrick and Abby’s two daughters were watching the Disney Channel in the corner, while Duncan’s little boy was crawling around, and Brandon Saad was holding Ryan on the couch.

“Hey!” Brianna exclaimed when she saw Corey and Autumn walk inside. “I’m glad you made it! Help yourself to whatever’s around. There’s more food in the kitchen,” she said, pointing towards the kitchen. She barely got the words out when Corey took off, obviously still starving.

“Sorry about him,” Autumn apologized on his behalf. “He’s a little hungry,” she said with a laugh.

“Trust me, I get it,” Brianna nodded her head. “With Brent, he’s always eating. I feel like we can’t have enough food in this house for him!”

“What are we talking about?” Katherine joined the conversation.

“The guys and their eating habits,” Autumn filled her in.

Katherine rolled her eyes. “It’s ridiculous! I swear, Cade eats enough for an entire family!” she exclaimed. “Thank God we’re having a little girl, I don’t think I could handle another boy in the house,” she joked.

Brianna got a big smile on her face. “You’re having a girl?” she asked excitedly, turning her head back and forth between Autumn and Katherine. No one had revealed the sex of the baby to anyone else, and this was the first time someone outside of them were finding out.

Katherine nodded her head. “Yes,” she grinned. “I’m so excited,” she said, and it was obvious that she truly was thrilled. “I can’t wait for her to be here!”

“Have you and Cade started talking names yet?” Brianna asked.

Katherine gave her a smile that said it all. "A little bit, but nothing has been decided just yet," she answered before turning her attention towards Autumn. "How are you feeling?"

This got Brianna's attention, and she turned to look at Autumn. "You not feeling too well?" she inquired.

"I'm fine," Autumn waved her question off.

Katherine gave her a look. "Don’t listen to her," she told Brianna. "Autumn was in the hospital last night," she added, and Brianna's eyes widened, worried for her friend.

"Don’t worry, I'm fine," Autumn assured her immediately. The last thing she wanted was for everyone to be worried about her. "They released me obviously. I just had some Braxton Hicks contractions," she explained. "But, I'm fine now," she added just as Corey walked up behind her with food a plate of food in his hands. She looked up at him. "Ain't that right?"

"Huh?" he asked, his mouth full of food.

She rolled her eyes while she laughed. "Tell them I'm fine or they wouldn't let me leave the hospital," she told him.

Corey swallowed before responding. "They say she's okay," he began. "But, I'd feel better if she was at least sitting down."

"Oh! Yes! Sit down!" Brianna said, ushering her to the couch and practically pushing her down next to Saad.

"Guys! I'm fine!" Autumn exclaimed. "You can even ask Cade! You know he wouldn't let me leave if he thought there was anything wrong," she said, and Katherine nodded her head, knowing she had a point. Her husband was as cautious with Autumn and the baby as anyone was, and if he thought Autumn or the baby was in any sort of danger, he'd never let them leave the hospital.

"What's going on?" Brandon asked from next to her.

Autumn rolled her eyes. "Nothing!" she told him. But, by this point, several of the other people there were circling around her, inquiring what was wrong. Autumn quickly recounted the previous night's events, and it seemed that a few of Corey's teammates knew the gist, so she assumed he must have told them at practice. "See, I'm fine, so you guys can stop worrying about me!" she told them. She was grateful that she had people in her life that cared about her so much, but she wished that they would back off right now.

"Here," Corey said, holding out a plate of food and a bottle of water he had gotten for her.

"Aww, Corey making the rest of us look bad in front of our wives," Sharp joked from behind him, nudging him in the side with his elbow. Corey rolled his eyes as a couple of the other guys chirped at him as well, but he let it roll of his back. As he'd said several times before, as long as Autumn was happy, he was happy. Even if that meant that he would get shit from his teammates.

Brandon stood up to get himself some food and passed Ryan off to Corey, who was the only one standing around empty-handed. He cooed at the little guy, and Autumn smiled as she watched him. Brent sat down in Brandon's now empty seat next to her.

"How are you doing?" he asked her, and she started to respond with a snippy response before she realized he just meant in general, not referring to her quick stay in the hospital the night before.

"I'm doing good," she told him. "How is it being a new dad?" she asked, looking at Ryan in Corey's arms. She couldn't help but notice how at ease he seemed to be with the newborn.

Brent smiled. "It's hard to believe how much I love him," he answered honestly. "What about you?" he asked, and she furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. "I mean, you want to be a mom one day, right?" he asked.

She nodded her head. "Oh, yeah, one day," she told him with a smile, still looking over at Corey and Ryan. Corey now was swinging Ryan in his arms from side to side as the baby boy laughed, obviously enjoying the playtime.

"Soon?" Brent asked, bringing her back to reality.

She finally took her eyes off of her boyfriend playing with the infant. She turned her head to look at Brent. "Well, I'm a little busy carrying another baby right now," she said with a laugh as she put her hand on her expanding stomach.

Brent laughed as well. "Yeah, I know. Kat can't wait for that baby," he told her. "But, I mean after that. After you've given birth to this kiddo," he said, pointing to her belly. "You want a baby of your own soon after this one is out of you?"

Autumn didn't really know how to answer him. She knew she wanted kids. She knew she wanted kids with Corey. That much they'd talked about before. But, she didn't know when exactly that would happen. "I don’t know," she shrugged. "I mean, I think I need to get married first," she said with a chuckle.

"Since when is that a requirement to have a kid?" Brent asked.

"It always has been in my book," she replied.

Brent nodded his head in understanding. "Well, I don’t think it's going to take too much to convince Crow to marry you. He already proposed, didn't he?" he recalled.

"That he did," Autumn nodded her head, knowing that if she told him at any time that she was ready to marry him that he would do it right then and there. Something told her that he'd be happy with getting eloped if she would be up for it. "I don't know. I guess when the time is right I'll have kids of my own. But right now the focus is on Kat and Cade's baby. I just need to deliver this one happy and healthy," she said, gently rubbing her belly.

"That you do!" Brent agreed. "Give them a good one," he smiled at her.

Brianna walked up to the two of them. "Is my husband bothering you?" she asked jokingly as she looked down at Brent, knowing he wasn't always the most suave person to talk to.

"Hey!" Brent exclaimed, pretending to be offended. "I was doing no such thing!"

Brianna raised her eyebrow at him before looking at Autumn. "Was he?" she asked her.

Autumn shook her head. "No, he's being an absolute gentleman," she assured her.

Brianna narrowed her eyes at Brent. "Did you pay her off to say that?" she asked jokingly.

"You give me no credit!" Brent replied while Autumn laughed.

Brent stood up to follow Brianna over to talk to Andrew Shaw and his girlfriend that he had brought along, leaving Brianna alone on the couch. But, the space wasn't empty for long as Corey took the spot from her. He still had Ryan in his arms, and when he sat down, the little boy looked at Autumn, smiling at her.

"I think he likes you," Corey told her as he held him out for her to take. Ryan continued to smile as Autumn took him in her arms and rocked him a little bit. He reached up and played with her face, putting his tiny little fingers on her chin and cheek.

"He is just the cutest little baby ever," Autumn fawned over him as she kissed his fingers.

Corey watched her for a while, not saying anything. Autumn could feel his eyes on her, and she finally looked over at him. "What?" she asked, seeing him staring at her.

He shook his head. "Nothing."

"C'mon Corey! Tell me!" she insisted.

"You're just really good with kids," he told her. "You're going to be a good mom."

Autumn couldn't help but smile at him. "Thank you," she told him.

He leaned over and gave her a kiss on the temple, when suddenly Ryan's hand hit him on the head. He backed away laughing. "That kid wants you all to himself!" he exclaimed while Autumn laughed, having witnessed the whole thing. It really did seem like Ryan didn't want Corey near Autumn. "Not that I can really blame him. I better go to the other room before he attacks me again," he joked, standing up. "Seabs is already teaching him how to fight!" he added, going over to find Brent and Brianna and tell them what their son was up to.
