Do You Fear Me?

five

“I’m sorry the boys couldn’t come with you, Rosie.” Dad pulled up to the house and I swallowed.
I don’t know how much I really want to be here.
“It’s okay…it won’t take me long…I’ll probably just get my clothes and whatever else I want. Would you mind if I had a few boxes?”
“That’s perfectly fine. I have to get to the station, I’ll be back in an hour to get you.”
“Um-it actually might be two hours.”
“That’s fine. I’ll see you later, kid.” He kissed my head and I got out, taking my key and unlocking the door. I waved before closing the door and looking around.
There were shards on the floor. The vase and lamps still laid on the ground broken. Pictures from the wall littered the floor.
I leaned down to pick up one.
It was from our trip to Chicago, we were all clad in San Jose Sharks jerseys and were cheering because the Sharks had just won the game.
There was another picture beside it, of my brother, sister, and I at the Shark Tank after the Sharks lost their final playoff game for the season.
I gathered the pictures, taking them from their frames, and began on to my room.
It was the only room in the house that hadn’t been torn to bits. My bed was still unmade from when I jumped out of it at the sound of breaking glass and a loud, rueful growl.
I quickly opened my dresser and stared down at the clothes there.
“Time to pack.”

I’d had most of my room packed and was now laying on my bed, a picture of my family in front of me.
But something felt weird.
Just being in the house was unnerving enough, but this added feeling of unsureness and unease wasn’t helping.
I sat up and dropped the photo on the stack I had collected. I pulled on a jacket and went into the kitchen and opened the fridge. Rummaging through the fridge, there wasn’t anything there to eat.
“Hey, Mom!” I froze and looked around. “She’s not even alive…” I took out a block of cheese and cut it into pieces. I took the pieces with me to my room and tossed more clothes into a box.
But there was still a lingering feeling about the house. I stuck my head out of the door.
“Hello?”
“Is someone here…?” No one is going to answer you, Rosie. I stepped back into my room but heard a creak in the wood.
“Hel-?” I froze.
A large figure stood at the end of the hall.
I fumbled back into my room but fell over something on the floor. I tried kicking my door shut, but I couldn’t reach it and the man, I could see now, stood in my doorway. I screamed.

His dark, bloody red eyes stared into hers. She felt her body succumb to shivers.

I screamed louder. He stepped back, my screams apparently too loud for him.
But suddenly an arm nailed him in the stomach. He doubled over and let out a loud roar. I screamed again and could see his eyes flash a darker red and his hands tighten and grow claws. I kept screaming as the owner of the arm took him down. I scrambled onto my stomach and slammed my door shut. I then scrambled to my feet and began shoving boxes and whatever I could in front of the door.
But a body came flying through the wall.
I screamed and dropped to the floor.
He landed on my bed and groaned. But there was a howl from outside the house. The man standing in the hall looked at the body, then at me, before turning and, like lightening, ran from the house.
I slowly rose from the floor. I slowly stepped towards my bed, trying to get close, but not too close to whoever had just saved my life.
“I-Isaac?” His hand was pressed against his stomach and his face was twisted in pure pain. “Isaac-look at me.” His eyes shot open and I jumped back, gasping, after seeing his bright yellow eyes. His eyes closed but opened again and they were a normal blue.
“Isaac.” I brushed his hair back. He gasped and his hand flexed over his stomach. I tried moving his hand but he wouldn’t let me touch him.
“Isaac, you have to let me help.”
“-No.” He gasped out at me. “I just-I’ll be-”
“I’m calling Stiles.” I pulled my phone from my pocket but his hand came up, knocking it from my hands with his bloody covered hand.
“Don’t!” He let out a loud groan. “Don’t call h-im.”
“Isaac, please.” I dropped to my knees beside him. “Let me help you.”
“You can’t.” I grabbed his wrist and held his hand away as I pulled his shirt up. I gasped.
“Isaac, you need to go to the hospital.”
“I can’t-I’ll be fine.”
“No you won’t.”
“Trust me, I will.”
“You could die!”
“Rosie-trust me.”
“I don’t trust you! I’m calling Stiles!” He tried grabbing for my wrist but I ducked down to grab my phone. I dialed Stiles’s number and pressed the phone to my ear.
“Uh-kinda busy, Rosie.”
“I need your help-Isaac’s in trouble-”
“Wha-how-why is Isaac in trouble?”
“He-he’s bleeding-he’s at my house-my old house.”
“Uh-okay-I’ll-we’ll be over-” The call ended.
“Dammit, Rosie.” I leaned over Isaac again, looking at the bloody mark on his stomach. “I fucking told you I’ll be fine.”
“I don’t care what you think, you were just attacked by some-thing!”
“I know what I’m doing.”

Though the alpha had left the house, he didn’t linger far. He stood at the edge of the forest, wondering what wolf thought it smart to take him on when he was trying to finish what he’d started.
He would get his revenge on that stupid boy. But first, he’d make him watch him kill her.

“He’s gonna be fine, Rosie.” Stiles held me against his chest as Scott helped Isaac to actually stand up.
I had my face buried in his shirt.
“Why did Dad leave you here alone?”
“Because he was only supposed to be gone an hour.”
“Alright…” I wiped my eyes and looked over at Isaac and Scott, yelling but in hushed tones.
“Rosie, was the guy that attacked him, the same guy from the killing?”
“I-yeah. I just-he was coming for me first.”
“That’s when Isaac came in…”
“Yeah.”
“What did he look like?” I glanced at Isaac.
“Red eyes-red glowing eyes. He had long canine teeth…and claws instead of nails. There was,” I touched my cheek. “Hair on his cheeks…”
“Let’s just, finish up here, and…get out of here, okay?” I nodded and looked at Isaac. While Scott and Stiles went to grab another box from the living room, I went to him.
“Are you really okay?”
“I’m fine. See?” He pulled up the new shirt, to show a less bloody, but gruesome mark. It looked like it was disappearing. “See? Okay.”
“I just-he threw you through a wall.” I let out an airy chuckle of disbelief.
“It’s okay.” He smiled. “I promise.” I hugged him.
“Thank you, Isaac.”
“It’s okay.” I leaned my head back, resting my chin on his chest, to look up at him.
“I-do you still need a…a date to the formal?”
“Are you accepting?”
“I-eh-yes.” He smiled.
“Thank you.” His hands sat at my hips. “You’re going to look beautiful.” His hand wandered up my side to cup my face before he pulled me in.
Our kiss was blissful. His hand moved down and pulled me against him. My hands slipped up his chest to his neck, pulling him down, and ultimately closer to me. He tightened his grip and I was forced to arch into him.
Hey!” I gasped and pulled back from Isaac. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Isaac shoved me out of the way just before Stiles came to him and punched Isaac in the jaw.
Stiles!” Scott grabbed me before I could go after my brother. “Stiles, stop!” Isaac grabbed Stiles’s hand and bent it back. He gasped and begged Isaac to let him go.
When Isaac did, Stiles gasped again and cradled his hand and wrist. I couldn’t help but slap Isaac.
Ow. What the hell was that for?”
“You almost just broke my brother’s wrist!”
“He punched me!”
“You kissed me!”
“You liked it!”
Ooh!” I went to slap him again, but he caught my hand this time.
“Rosie, we should go.” I looked back at Scott and Stiles.
“We should.” I yanked my hand from Isaac’s and turned to my brother.
“Here,” I took the box from him and dumped more of my things into the box.
“I just need one more. I have to get some stuff from my family’s rooms.” Stiles nodded and went to get another. But Scott stayed this time.
“Christ, Scott, I’m not going to kiss her again. Jesus.” Scott growled at Isaac.
“Can you two stop? Please.”
“He’s not someone that you should hang around, Rosie.”
“You think I hang around him? He follows me everywhere, Scott! I would have died tonight if he hadn’t followed me here.” Isaac went to open his mouth, but Stiles came back.
“Come on.” I glanced at Isaac but followed Stiles to the other rooms.
“He followed you?”
“I guess. I was here alone, and it just felt weird. I looked out of my room and there was this-thing standing there. He looked like a man. But before I could close my door, he was standing there. But then Isaac came out of nowhere and took him out.” I sat on my brother’s bed but didn’t stall with putting his things in the box. Stiles didn’t speak as I finished in all the rooms and came back to my own.
“How are we going to explain this hole to your dad?” I looked at my wall, or lack thereof, then at Scott and Isaac.
“I don’t know.”
“Let’s just take these to the jeep.” Stiles said. So we all picked one up and followed Stiles out.
I was last to the jeep and I merely put the box beside the other three.
“I am not going to taint my sister with this bullshit, Scott.”
“She deserves to know after she was just attacked by-”
“She’s outside.”

Isaac looked outside, through the large hole.
“I-I don’t know what you were talking about.”
“Good.” He put a box in my hands and turned back to get another. I looked up at Stiles and Scott, who were giving each other knowing, yet brotherly glares.
We soon had the jeep packed and I was sitting in the back, curled up with a picture of my family.
“Hey, Dad…” I looked up suddenly. His car was parked next to Stiles’s and he looked rushed. Almost scared.
“Stiles, what happened?”
“It was nothing-”
“Stiles.”
“She was attacked, and the guy tried getting in her room, he made a huge hole in the wall.” Stiles spit out.
“He did what-!? Is Rosie okay?”
“She’s fine. I-Isaac found her and…helped her fend him off.”
“Thank you, Isaac.”
“We got all of her stuff and it’s in the back of the jeep.”
“Alright, I’ll meet you home, then?”
“I’m actually going back over-”
“You have school tomorrow.”
“I know, but-”
“Go home, Stiles.”
“Yes, sir.” Stiles and Scott got in, but so did Isaac. He sat beside me.
“What’s that?”
“None of your business.” I shoved it into my jacket pocket.
“Rosie,”
“I don’t care what you have to say.”
“I saved your life and this is how you’re repaying me?”
“You got a kiss, didn’t you?” His mouth hung open but then closed.
“Fine…” I leaned back and as we drove, I fell asleep.

Isaac
I closed the loft door and began to the steps.
“You didn’t tell her?”
“Excuse me?” I stopped and turned on the ball of my foot to Derek.
“You didn’t tell her? After he attacked her and nearly killed you, you still didn’t tell her?” Derek asked. He came into the main space, his arms crossed over his chest and giving me a hard look.
“Derek, it’s not up to me to tell her about her fucking brothers’ secret life.”
“She could have been killed. You could have been killed. Yet you still fought an alpha to save a girl you don’t even know.” He unraveled his arms and let them hang at his side.
“What do you know about her!?”
“She’s an avid hockey fan. Favourite team’s the San Jose Sharks. She’s met the Sharks’ captain and owner once in her life. She loved her family more than her own life. She likes to read and write. She’s a wiz at grammar and spelling and a huge history buff. Should I go on?”
“How did you even learn that?”
“I went to her house.”
“If you went to her house too, why am I the one who’s being a puppy?”
“Because you’re falling in love with her. I’m trying to save my pack, not kill them.”
“I’m not falling in love with her, I don’t even know her.” According to you.
“You’re lying, Isaac.”
“I’m not lying. Can I go to bed now? I have school and lacrosse in the morning.”
“Sure, whatever.”
“Prick.” I growled as I jogged up the stairs and to my room.
