Audrey's Snow

Audrey's Snow (17)

RECAP

"I don't want to die without any scars?" He read the cursive text that wrapped partially around my thigh. I shrugged.

"My favorite fight club quote." I grabbed my bag and walked away quickly not wanted to answer any more questions. I didn't lie, it was my favorite quote from the movie Fight Club. I just left out the fact that a boy who is very special to me out there somewhere has the same exact tattoo on his arm. I thought back to Kyle.

Before my mom was an agent, and she was still in school we lived in a house and we had lived there for 10 years. Kyle was my neighbor, and a close friend. We would hang out every single day, and it was just so easy. It was never romantic between us, we would just hang out. He would make electronic music on his computer and burn it on a CD for me, I would play piano for him. Its just how we worked.

We found out I was going to move when I was 12 and he was 14, almost 15. That's when we got the tattoo's. I haven't seen him since. We kept in touch for awhile but eventually we lost each others numbers and addresses and he moved and I kept moving and yeah. I don't like talking about it though, because nobody really understands.

I was standing in the airport by myself, in the spot Harley said he would meet me. I was excited to see him. It has only been one night but I feel like a total different person. I never realized how good my life had gotten since I moved in with the Michaels. How much I had grown.

"Hey city slicker!" I heard Harley behind me me and turned to see him standing there smiling. I wrapped my arms around him and he easily picked me up in a hug. "Where's Anna?" There goes my happy. She was so nice, so motherly this weekend. Then she tells me she can't see me back because she held off business all weekend to spend it with me. I guess she should be happy I got a weekend with her.

"She had business in New Mexico, she said to send her thanks for dealing with me." I rolled my eyes. He laughed and took my bag from me. It reminded me of when Kevin took my bag from me, the first day I was here.

"I like your hair." He said smiling. He noticed right away, and I couldn't help but smile. Earlier I had gone to get my hair and makeup done and the hair stylist practically begged to dye the ends of my hair a dark blonde. It looks really good.

"Thanks Harley." I said happily

"I missed you!" Harley said again . I laughed again. I was in an amazing mood.

"I missed you too." I said happily. It was true. After my run in with Keith, I realized how happy I was here. So what that me and Harley were only friends? It would only make things awkward in the house. Plus, if we broke up I would have to move!

We walked out and I saw Dristin sitting in the truck, fiddling with the radio. I smiled. While Harley took my bag to the truck bed, I flung open to door and launched myself onto Dristin, wrapping him in a hug. He jumped, but hugged be back.

"Hey Dristin." I smiled into his shoulder.

"Hey Princess. I'm so sorry, I heard about your dad. How you doing?" And then reality crashed down on me. The reason I went away is to get away from him. I'm back, and I'm sure he'll be back. I plastered a smile onto my face and shrugged.

"Hes a frost giant who tried to kill his brother." I shrugged helplessly. Dristin looked concerned, but I could tell he was holding back a smile at my choice of words.

"I'm pretty sure he isn't Loki. Lets just call him an asshole. Okay?" I nodded solemnly. He unbuckled himself and pulled me off of his lap and to his side. He wrapped one arm around my shoulder protectively. Harley got in, and looked at us. He didn't look to happy, but I didn't care.

"You okay Audrey?" He asked concerned. I shrugged.

"Just remembering why I left in the first place." I mumbled. I guess I can't run from my problems forever.

During the ride home I filled them in on Keith, and our history. Both of them were pretty pissed when I mentioned him kicking me out of his car, and were furious when I mentioned that he was upset that I didn't want him back. It made me realize how much they care about me. We pulled up to the house.

"Hey Dristin, can I talk to Audrey alone for a second?" Harley looked up at Dristin, which just made me worried. Did my dad do something so embarrassing that Dristin couldn't even hear about it? Dristin smiled.

"Yeah man, no problem. I'll just go wait in your room." Dristin opened the door and got out. When I tried to scoot to where he was sitting, Harley put his arm around me. He pulled me even closer to him. I was confused.

"Okay you need to just let me talk, no interrupting okay?" He said slowly. I groaned, it was going to be something bad, I could just tell.

"Okay." I said hesitantly.

"Remember when I said that I was going to date Kimmy because I loved her, although what I felt for you was real? Well, I lied." What? "I talked to Kimmy, and we are broken up for good now because of what I said. What I said was that I'm completely in love with you, I love her, but I am in love with you. Ever since you have gotten here you have changed me. When you scared me half to death getting bitten by a snake, or when you didn't call when you were boxing late at Harry's house. When you make me laugh like when we went on that trip through the woods, and you just had to stop and draw the field. When you drive me crazy by being with other guys, even if you are only friends, and when you surprise me, like every day. I guess what I am saying is, will you give me a chance to show you I'm not a complete dick? Will you go on a date with me Audrey?" He had raked his fingers through his hair about a thousand time. I smiled. I really smiled. I had never heard someone tell me they loved me and meant it.

"Yeah Harley, I'll go on a date with you." I am a complete idiot, but an idiot who feels so happy that she is about to burst. Harley must have felt it too because soon his lips were pressed against mine. There was something desperate about the kiss, like he had been waiting and waiting just to do it. He pulled away smiling, his face a bit flushed.

"You are amazing Audrey Davey, you know that?" I smiled again.

"As are you Harley Michaels." I said smiling. I leaned my head against his shoulder and glanced out the window. A smile instantly came on my face as I squirmed away from him and out of the car. I looked up at the sky smiling. It was snowing. Harley had gotten out of the car, he didn't look happy but when he noticed how thrilled I was I could tell that he was lightening up. "Harley! Its snowing!" I said happily. He nodded.

"Yes, it is. Wasn't there snow in Oregon though?" He was confused. I shook my head.

"Nope! God I love snow!" I said happy. He came up behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist.

"Well how about we go inside, I'll make us some hot chocolate, and we can cuddle and watch movies all night." His breath was hot against my ear, but I was too excited. I shook my head no.

"Even though I am exhausted from the flight, we can do that later. or tomorrow." There was about 3 inches of snow, and it was still coming. "How about we go get bundled up, and I can show you why I am the snow ball fight champion of the world?" I said. I turned around to see his face, he just raised an eyebrow at me.

"You are on."

Twack!

Another snowball hit me, only this time it was my shoulder. He must have been a pitcher for a professional baseball team at some point in his life because his snow balls stung, through my coat even.

I had hit him with more snow balls that he had hit me with, but there was barely any snow left on the ground. It was still snowing, but barely. Apparently it only snowed here a couple times a year and when it did, it melted the next day.

"Hot chocolate time?" He called behind his fort. He had made a pile of logs.

"Yeah, I can't even feel my nose." I called back. I balled up the last of the snow, honestly it was mostly dirt. I cautiously stood up, he was already standing. "Ha!" I yelled, hurling the last snow ball at him. It hit him on the chest, and I couldn't help but to laugh. He shot me a glare, but it was playful.

"Cheater!" He called. I walked out and hurried over to him. He wrapped his arms around my waist, and quickly kissed my nose.

"Whats my punishment?" I said teasingly.

"Oh, I'll show you." He practically purred at me. I just laughed. I loved being a tease, as mean as it was.

"Come on." I said, changing the mood. I grabbed his hand and walked inside. When I saw Joleen, I dropped Harley's hand. I didn't want to get him or me in trouble.

"Hey mom." She looked at us up and down, we were both wearing sweat pants and jackets, hats and mittens, and we both looked like we gained about 50 pounds in clothing. She rolled her eyes and went back to trying to help Sam put on his boots.

"Hey kids. I'm going to take Sam and Anthony over to the Richters for their daughters birthday party. I'll be back in a few hours or so, Kevin is working in the garage I believe." She said, pushing his boot on all the way.

"Okay Mom. We'll be upstairs." Harley practically ran us upstairs and into his bedroom. Dristin was asleep on his bed and I couldn't help but laugh.

"Is it horrible that I completely forgot about Dristin?" I asked lightly. He laughed too.

"No, because I did too." He smiled and pulled me into my room. It was like night and day stepping from the floor of the hall to the freezing cold wooden floor. Harley noticed too, slinging his arm over my shoulders and pulling me to him. It felt so comfortable.

We lounged around in bed all afternoon. We weren't cuddling, but I couldn't help but notice how close we were laying next to each other. We talked about my childhood and his, we talked about his first girlfriend and my first kiss. I felt like I got to know so much about him. I felt like there was something else though that he wasn't telling me. The doorbell interrupted our sharing.

"I'll get it." I said sweetly. I already knew who it was. My dad seriously needed to get the hint. The idea of a perfect dad was awesome, but he wasn't a perfect dad. A perfect dad wouldn't have left his family and then shows up 17 years later.

"Look-" I said swinging open the door. Only it wasn't my dad. There was a young boy, with dark brown messy hair and chocolate eyes standing on front of me. One I hadn't seen in years. "Kyle?" I said shocked. He looked just as shocked as I did.

"Audrey?"
