Love Somebody

Never gonna leave this bed

Chapter 8: Never gonna leave this bed

“How are you doing hun?” Christie asked Tara as she was on the phone with her. Both had settled nicely into their new life. While Tara had been in New York, Christie had called James with the good news. Of course he had agreed to let her stay with him, after all James had planed to ask her out on a date for a long while now.

“Oh, NY is good, a bit cold but nice.” Tara said and had a small smile on her face as she looked down at Jonesy who was sitting next to her on the small couch in the back room of Ed Sullivan Theater, the home of Late Night with David Letterman. Dexter Interior had gotten quite a good offer of doing a few of the set decorations.

“Tara babe, I didn't ask how the city was. I know that it's cold there in Autumn and Winter. I asked about you.”

Tara had seen a few articles in the tabloids about the time Adam and her had been in that club and how he had a few flings here and there. It of course hurt her, but she knew it was her own fault for sending him off.

“I'm not really sure how I feel. I miss my parents the most right now, my mum would usually give me advice in situations like this.”

“Oh boy.” Christie sighed and Tara could hear James in the background, asking what was wrong. “Tara, babes, I know you're going to hate me, but you need to talk to Adam. Those articles aren't true. The guys and I have been with him most of the time, and he never once looked at another woman. Tara he's been in love with you ever since.”

Tara could feel how the tears came into her eyes. “Chris, I, I don't know what to do.” she sniffled softly. Jonesy feeling her distress put his head on Tara's leg, telling her she was there.

“Tara I already told you. Go and talk to him. He is currently in New York, so maybe you could meet up. I'll give you his number.” her friend said and told Tara Adam's phone number.

“Okay, I'll call him.” she said and hung up after saying her goodbyes.

Letting out a soft sigh, she got up and walked back out to the studio, with the promise of phoning the singer after she had done her work.

Adam had just gotten out of the taxi that brought him to the Ed Sullivan Theater, where he would be a guest on the Dave Letterman Show, when the paparazzi and fans where hunting for good pictures. He had been working on the new season of the Voice and tried to just focus on his job, but a certain brunette still occupied his mind night and day.

He had talked to Chris a few times after, the young blonde had moved in with James, getting the scoop on how Tara was doing in New York. Personally Adam had wished that she, too, had to work in LA, but maybe it was better that way.

And now being here in NYC he had a plan of contacting her again, trying to work it over and show Tara that he was sincere about his feelings for her.

“Adam, can you tell us something about the young Brit you have been seen with while in London?” one of the paps asked him and he just smiled. Adam didn't want them to write something that wasn't true.

He moved into the building and one of the set assistants came over. “Hey, Mr. Levine, it's nice to have you here again.” he said and walked him around the set so they could get to the dressing rooms. Adam was just about to move through the big doors, when he saw a small white puppy sitting next to a short brunette. He took a closer look and got a glimpse of the same tattoo he had seen back in London.

It was Tara, standing there in dark pants, a light sweater with the sleeves shoved up and flats. He walked over and tapped her lightly on her shoulder. “Tara?”

Tara had just been rearranging a few decorations for the Autumn show when she felt a light tap on her shoulder. She rolled her eyes, knowing it must be one of the assistants that usually bothered her with everything on the set. But then she heard the voice behind her saying her name.

Turning around, Tara came face to face with Adam. Her eyes widened in shock when she saw him.

“Adam hey.” she said softly brushing the strands out of her face, that had fallen out of the messy bun she wore.

“Hey.” he returned the greeting, pushing his hands in his jeans pockets.

Tara gave Adam a soft smile as she watched him. He wore a gray band shirt of Peter Tosh with the Album cover to Wanted Dread & Alive and blue denims. He looked good, as far as she could tell but Tara knew nothing was good.

“How are you?” “What have you been up to?” they both asked at the same time and Adam gave a light laugh. He was just about to continue when Shelly, another set assistant, came up to them.

“Mr. Levine you need to get backstage and ready for the interview. “ Adam nodded and looked back at Tara.

“Do you want to come back? We could talk a bit more.” she could see the hope in his eyes. Tara thought about the hurt look he had after their fight and couldn't help but agree.

“Okay.” she said and grabbed Jonesy.

Adam grinned and both were led to his dressing room to get the make-up done and change his clothes. Tara knew what her head was telling her, it said 'Don't', but her heart said 'Go'. So she went with her heart and it felt great. She smiled at him as he entered the room and sat down in a chair, where the stylist was already waiting for him.

“So, what have you been up to?” Adam asked as the make up was put on.

Tara looked up at him and told him about how she had moved to the States and was now head of the branch in NYC.

“Wow that's amazing.”

Tara nodded her head and asked him the same. “How about you? I haven't really had a chance to read any tabloids this time.”

Adam smiled at her. “Ah, we're currently in the middle of the new season of The Voice, but it seems that Blake got a chance at winning again.” he told her a bit miffed but then the smile returned again.

He felt great, better than great actually. When Tara had agreed to talk to him some more Adam was elated. When he came back to the States he had tried to forget Tara, but there was nothing that made her go away. And now he sat there in his dressing room and having an absolutely normal conversation with her, the woman that made his time in the UK a living hell.

“How did your dog take the change.” he asked pointing at the small puppy, that still looked like a poodle to him.

“Oh, Jonesy's alright with it. She gets adapted real quick.” Tara explained and stroked her fur.

Adam nodded and then got up from the chair as the stylist had finished with the hair, too. Tara stood from the couch, pointing over to the door. “I'll just...you know...be outside.” she mumbled and Adam couldn't help but laugh at her.

“You don't have to leave, babe.” 'Stay here, I beg you.' Adam continued in his head.

“No, I really should.”

Hearing her say those words, Adam felt how the sadness creeped back into his heart, but Tara gave him a reassuring smile. And he knew she wanted to really talk to him now and would even stay for their conversation.

He quickly dressed in his light gray button-up shirt, his gray suit and put on his tie. Making sure the hair still was like it should be, Adam made his way to the door, letting Tara enter again.

“You stayed.” It was more a statement then a question.

“Yeah.”

Just as he wanted to say something again, Shelly came over. “Mr. Levine, I'm sorry to interrupt you, but your on in five.”

Sighing he nodded and then went back to Tara. “Rain check on a coffee after the show?”

“Sure.” she told him, a genuine smile playing on her lips.

Adam shot her one of his own smiles and left for the set, talking to Dave on his Late Night Show.

//////////////////////////////////////////////

Tara had waited for him to come back to the dressing room and watched the show on the small TV that was there.

Adam was asked a few questions about his past relationship with Behati and why it hadn't worked. He was professional about it, saying both had wanted different things. David left it at that.

“So, now Adam tell us: What is going on with this lovely brunette?” David asked and showed a picture of Adam and Tara as they left the club and when he stormed out of her apartment.

Adam swallowed not sure what to say. “Ah, well, she is a really good friend for me, for the band. She helped us with our music video and that's about all.” he tried, hoping the conversation about Tara was over.

In the dressing room, Tara's eyes widened at hearing the question. She was relieved that he hadn't told David about their One-Night-Stand or anything else. Tara smiled a little as she saw Adam standing there, having a soft smile on his lips.

“Alright, but now I remember you telling me, that you were going to perform a acoustic version of your song 'Never gonna leave this bed'. Now here for us all, Adam Levine.” David said and the audience applauded and hooted for the singer.

He walked over to the band and took his guitar. Prepping the microphone Adam looked at the camera. “Okay, so this is for someone really important to me, I hope they get the message.” he said and then started to play the first chords of the song.

You push me
I don't have the strength to
Resist or control you
Take me down, take me down

You hurt me
But do I deserve this?
You make me so nervous
Calm me down, calm me down

Wake you up
In the middle of the night to say
I will never walk away again
I'm never gonna leave this bed, oh

So come here
And never leave this place
Perfection of your face
Slows me down, slows me down

So fall down
I need you to trust me
Go easy, don't rush me
Help me out, why don't you help me out?

Wake you up
In the middle of the night to say
I will never walk away again
I'm never gonna leave this bed, oh

So you say "Go, it isn't working"
And I say "No, it isn't perfect"
So I stay instead
I'm never gonna leave this bed

Take it, take it all
Take all that I have
I'd give it all away just to get you back

And fake it, fake it all
Take what I can get

Knockin' so loud
Can you hear me yet
Try to stay awake but you can't forget

Wake you up
In the middle of the night to say
I will never walk away again
I'm never gonna leave this bed, oh

You say "Go, it isn't working"
And I say "No, it isn't perfect"
So I stay instead
I'm never gonna leave this bed, ooh

Take it, take it all
Take all that I have
Take it, take it all
Take all that I have
Take it, take it all
Take all that I have
Take it, take it all
Take all that I have

Take it, take it all
Take all that I have
Take it, take it all
Take all that I have
Take it, take it all
Take all that I have
