Eden was occupied by the phone in her hand and hadn't heard him. John smiled as he slipped next to her. When she noticed him, her eyes widened briefly. The smallest of smiles twitched on her lips before she spoke.
"You startled me."
"Did I?" he asked.
She nodded and looked down the empty street. "Why did you want to meet here?"
"It's halfway between our apartments," John answered. "Unless you want to come with me and we can talk at my place."
"Can we just walk around for a while?"
The urge was getting stronger. Every time she moved or looked at him, he envisioned himself cutting into her. He wasn't sure why he waited so long. He hadn't when he killed Daniel, or even the woman before him.
"Why did you want to meet?" he asked as they started walking.
"I figured you needed to talk," Eden said. "Do you have nightmares a lot?"
About killing women? All the time.
"Sometimes."
"What was this one about?"
Cutting you open and feeling your blood flow over my fingers.
"You died," he told her quietly.
He leaned against a chain link fence. Beyond it was a construction site, and his mind was reeling. He needed to distract her while he figured out what to do with her body.
