It's Time to Rock the Dragon

Chapter twelve

“Um, come in.” I said to Jess, noticing the few tears escaping her.

She took a few steps in, looked at Gohan and I and then I could see she was gulping down some more tears.

“I’m sorry guys, just because my relationship is over doesn’t mean I have to stop yours from blossoming. I’ll go.” Jess said, and turned around to walk out the door but I grabbed her by her shoulders and slammed the door shut.

“You, sit. I’m going to go into the kitchen and prepare some delicious sweet treats, which are perfect break up food. Go through the TV or DVDs to find a good movie, and we’ll discuss as little or as much as you’d like to during whatever we’re watching.” I said to Jess.

She nodded, and then awkwardly took a seat next to Gohan.

“You,” I pointed to Gohan “Up, you’re helping me in the kitchen.”

Gohan didn’t do anything, but just gave me a smile and Jess a pat on the knee as he followed me into the kitchen.

I took him off guard as I attacked him, wrapping my arms around his body as I pressed my lips to his. It was just a short kiss that lasted maybe five seconds, and he had barely any time to react but it was a cute kiss. It was soft, unlike Seto’s passionate kisses that always used tongue.

Ahem, I should stop comparing Gohan to Seto. Gohan is much better, and it’s perhaps a little unhealthy.

“Wow, that was um. Wow. I don’t know what to say.” Gohan nervously admitted to me.

“Say you’ll be my boyfriend.” I excitingly replied.

“O-okay. Sure. I’ll be your boyfriend.” Gohan stammered out.

“See, that wasn’t so hard was it. We are now boyfriend and girlfriend. Now, there’s some Oreos in the main cupboard can you grab them out? There’s also milk in the fridge, pour three glasses, you’ll find the glasses in the top left cupboard.” I instructed Gohan.

He did as he was told in silence, as I grabbed out three bowls, and the spare tube of raw cookie dough my mother keeps in the fridge. I scraped it evenly into three bowls.

“Wow. I’m actually going out with you.” Gohan said to himself, a smile on his face.

“Yep, lucky guy. Now this is going to sound horrible, but we’ll have to keep the news away from Jess for a short while, at least this afternoon. It’d be cruel for us to be affectionate and announce our relationship as hers has just ended. You get me?” I asked Gohan.

“I completely understand. They were together for such a long time, and they both seemed so…perfect.” Gohan said.

I grabbed onto Gohan’s hand, and stroked it with my thumb in an affectionate way. This time he was the one to initiate the kiss, he cupped my face and leaned in for another short and sweet kiss.

When we broke away we were both avoiding each other’s gazes and were blushing furiously.

“Okay, that should be enough affection for now, we should get back to Jess.” I blushed, grabbing the bowls of cookie dough whilst Gohan grabbed the Oreos and milk, both of us preparing ourselves for Jess’ tears.

***

After about an hour of non-stop crying and scoffing down sweet treats, Jess had seemed to run out of tears to cry. She was only letting out a sniff every now and then, but no fresh tears were coming out.

It turns out when Jasper snapped at Gohan, he wasn’t mad at Gohan. He was mad at Jess, and wanted to speak to her.

This ‘talk’ resulted in Jasper dumping Jess due to her fight with Videl. Both Gohan and I agreed that this wasn’t fair. Whilst there were probably other ways Jess could have dealt with Videl’s attack than swinging back, but really what else was she meant to do? Sit back and take it? The human’s natural instincts are to fight back, and although Jess ‘fought back’ some of it was self-defence too.

We were all silent now, our eyes glued on the television screen. I’m sure we probably had conversations to talk about, but we didn’t in fear of Jess’ fragile state and how she would take them.

I remember when I broke up with Seto, every conversation I had with anybody could relate back to Seto.

“What did you get on your maths test?” Seto used to tutor me in maths.

“Aren’t those windows lovely?” Seto’s mansion had massive and lovely windows.

“Isn’t that dog just adorable?” Seto always called Joey a dog.

You get the point. It’s petty and ridiculous, but that’s just the way you are when you go through a major breakup.

The doorbell then rang for a second time tonight.

“I’ll um, go get that.” I said, being quite confused.

I had no idea who could be ringing this time. It couldn’t be my parents, because they had a key. I decided to get rid of my curious by finding out.

I opened the door, and saw nobody around. I did notice a letter taped to the door with my name on it.

I contemplated opening it. What if it was a letter bomb or it had dangerous chemicals that if I inhaled would poison me, or was acid and would burn my skin? I then laughed off my paranoia, knowing I was stupid. Who would want to hurt me?

I quickly opened the letter and read it.

Dear Charlotte,

I know we have not exchanged conversation in a long time but I must be brief. Please meet my brother and I in the town centre of Satan City at 12pm tomorrow. A new threat is endangering the world, and your help is being sough out.

- Ishizu Ishtar.

I rolled my eyes. A NEW threat? Why me? WHY? I had moved on from the duel monsters group. Why did I need to keep up the card games to save the world?

Gohan had approached me, realising I had taken so much time. I walked back into the lounge room, but passed him the letter.

“Is this some sort of sick prank?” Gohan asked me.

“No, um, they’re old friends. It’s a long story, but um, I’ll explain it to you some other time.” I nervously said, as Jess’ eyes glazed over the letter.

“A new threat? Your help being sought out? Are YOU secretly that little boy that was the one to actually kill Cell?” Jess joked.

I giggled a little bit, but Gohan stayed dead silent. I think he was scared for me.

“Well, I’m going with you. Old friends or not, just leaving a letter and not explaining is weird. I don’t want anything to happen to you.” Gohan said.

“Alright, deal. I guess meeting them is a viable option; they’re probably the best to explain this all to you. It’s probably not going to be believable, but it’s something you must be informed of I guess.” I shrugged.

“Trust me, a lot of stuff has happened to me that’s not believable either. I’m more open minded than most.” Gohan explained.

“Well I want to hear it too! Besides, you guys are now officially my hang out-group and only friends. We’re all in this together, right?” Jess asked.

So it was confirmed. The most unlikely friendship group of Jess, Gohan and I were now official, and we would be meeting Ishizu and Marik tomorrow where they may or may not be learning more of my past I had tried to run from.
