It's Time to Rock the Dragon

Chapter four

I ended up settling into Orange Star High School pretty well. Jasper, Jess and Gohan were the only friends I had made, but I had a few acquaintances I had spoken to during lunch whilst waiting for Jess and Jasper.

I easily taught Jess and Jasper how to play duel monsters. They took me to a shop in the heart of Satan City that sold all items regarding games. It wasn’t a ‘game shop’ like Yugi grandfather’s per say, because it also sold a lot of martial arts equipment.

Apparently this was why the shop was popular, according to the owner. We dodged through crowds ‘wowing’ at Mr. Satan’s newest brand items, and asked the owner if they sold duel monsters cards. His eyes lit up, he was so happy that somebody asked for a real game. He informed us that he only added martial arts equipment due to popular demand.

Jess and Jasper bought themselves a starter deck, with a few booster packs as good luck. I bought myself a booster pack as well, so I could look at improving my deck. It’s weird to admit it, but I was probably the best duellist in this town of martial arts. I HAD to keep up appearances.

That was it really. I stopped feeling homesick for Domino, and I was beginning to get used to the whole lecture theatre thing, as well as having the same people for every class. I was slowly convincing myself it was better, even though that wasn’t the case, it was still better than I was with awesome people in Orange Star High School and not the crap people in Domino.

“Alright seniors, I’m now going to reveal to you your major assessment for health this year. We’ve decided to do this assignment now, rather than later when all your other assignments pile up. This assignment requires a fresh mind, and is worth 25 per cent of your grade overall for health. The other 25 per cent will be from other assignments and tests throughout the year, with 50 per cent of course being allocated to the exam.” Our health teacher explained.

I was seated next to Jess, who had Jasper on her other side. Like always, we were in front of Erasa and Sharpner. Gohan and Videl were nowhere to be seen, but I was strangely hoping they weren’t together.

I think I may have a small crush on Gohan. He was cute, sweet, caring, funny, hot yadda yadda yadda the whole deal. So I guess I was a teensy bit jealous he may be with his ex when he should be in class.

But mostly I was hoping he wasn’t with Videl because it may make things more socially awkward between us. She still hated me; I still disliked her because of it. It was clear that Videl would not let Gohan and I be friends, if she was to be his friend again.

I felt awful for feeling this way. Gohan couldn’t sit with Jess, Jasper and I. He had to sit with Erasa, Sharpner and Videl. Things were already socially awkward for him, why shouldn’t he patch up things with her? I was being totally selfish.

“This assignment is unprecedented, it’s a new assignment we’re starting this year. We all know you’ve done sex ed a million times, and are sick of it by now. So instead we’re bringing a project to life. It won’t be any less awkward than sex ed, and it may require a little more effort. But we’re sure that you’ll learn valuable life lessons doing this project, rather than just information for your end of year exams like the old pen to paper assignments we make you do.” The teacher explained to the class.

As the teacher rolled out a trolley covered with a sheet, Gohan ran into the lecture theatre just as the teacher was going to throw the sheet off to reveal the mystery assignment.

“Glad you could finally join us Gohan. Do you happen to know where Videl is?” The teacher asked, sounding a little annoyed.

“I dunno. Probably fighting crime or something.” Gohan mumbled, and took his seat in front of me.

“As I was going to announce, your project this year is-“ The teacher said, in an attempt to reveal our project again but a disgruntled figure walked in to interrupt.

Videl stormed into the classroom. However, the teacher took a different approach to her.

“How was crime fighting dear, did you catch any bad guys?” The teacher asked Videl kindly.

“No! I don’t even know why I still bother! Of course The ‘Great’ Saiyaman got there before me.” Videl snapped at the teacher, even shocking the teacher.

“Hey, whatever happened to Saiyaman’s companion? The Saiyagirl or whoever she was?” Erasa asked loudly.

“I heard she got hit by a bus and died.” Gohan quickly replied.

It made me laugh, not because I knew what the hell they were talking about, but that was so unlike Gohan to talk about something so sensitive like that. He was just so forward about it usually. His quick response made it hilarious as well.

“No. I heard she left the great Saiyaman and went solo because Saiyaman is a moron.” Videl snapped at Gohan, and slammed herself down into her seat.

“Who are the Great Saiyaman and the Great Saiyagirl?” I asked Jess.

She opened her mouth to reply, but the teacher went on to reveal our assignment. She shut her mouth, but got out a pen and paper to scribble me a note.

“Well let’s hope I don’t get interrupted again. This is our assignment!” The teacher said and quickly unveiled the trolley.

Inside the trolley were a bunch of dolls. A lot of dolls.

“We’re going to play dolls?” Sharpner yelled out, in disbelief.

“No. This task requires you to tend to your baby. You will be partnered up with a member of the opposite sex. You will take turns in looking after the baby for two weeks. You must also complete a few set exercises together in order to pass.” The teacher explained to us.

“That’s easy. They’re just dolls, can’t we just leave them in our school bags?” Somebody up the front asked.

“No. These babies have a special computer inside of them, which will record the actions of both the parents and the baby. If the baby is left to cry, this will be recorded. A ‘happiness’ rate has been put into the baby. For example, if the baby is left to cry for more than 2 minutes unattended it’s happiness rate will continue to decrease. But if it’s cuddled or fed at the correct intervals, the happiness rate will go up. Furthermore, the set exercises will set the happiness rate to an amount you need to pass. If the happiness rate is below 80 per cent by the time the assignment is over, you fail.” The teacher outwardly declared.

Everyone shifted around nervously, eyeing the people next to them. Nobody had asked anybody to be their partners yet, the teacher hadn’t declared whether we choose or she chooses. I hope she chooses, because Jess will be with Jasper, and I’ll be alone and embarrassed.
