Beyond

Bound

I had to get rid of Devon.

He was complicating Eden, making her thinking she was safe from me. But he was wrong, he didn't know who she was. He didn't know there was a darkness in her, that every time he held her, touched her, made love to her, that she would always, always be thinking of me.

Eden and I were bound in a terrible, unimaginable way.

I'd followed the good doctor from his apartment to his office, careful not to be seen. He greeted some woman at the front door and walked inside with her. It was too bad that I couldn't pose as a man seeking guidance, because he had seen my face many times.

But maybe his secretary hadn't.

I parked my car in a lot across the street and headed toward the building. Everything was white, and the woman at the receptionist desk was pretty enough, but not like Eden. No one was like Eden, not to me. Perhaps I'd kill this woman, too.

"Hello," I said softly. "I'd like to speak with Dr. Russell, please. It's a matter of life and death."
