You Have My Attention

Just go with it.

"What happened?" John asked letting himself in and she sighed from the couch. Right when she got home she called him. She needed to talk.

She groaned letting her face hit the couch, "Do you not knock?"

"Hey, it's just your friendly neighbor John O'Callaghan."

She hid her smile into the pillow that she had pressed her face into.

John chuckled sitting on the edge beside her.

"What happened?!"

She breathed in, turning her head to look at him and he chuckled as he brushed her hair from her face.

"I screwed up."

"How so?"

"Garrett."

"Am I going to have to guess or are you going to tell me?"

She finally went into the whole spill and he sat there and listened until she was done.

"So, you wouldn't have kissed him?" He finally asked.

"What? Yeah. I mean, I like him. I don't know." She whined and he grinned down and her, "I think you're just a little scared."

"Why would I be?"

"Because, it's scary when you really like someone."

"So what should I do?"

"I don't know, Remi. Talk to him."

"And what about that Catherine problem?"

"I wouldn't worry about it. He clearly only likes you. Give him some credit."

"So I should just go to his house and kiss him?"

John laughed, "If that's what you want to do, sure."

She chuckled and he smiled down at her, "You don't need me to give you a pep talk. He likes you, you like him. Whatever you do will be fine."

"Who knew John Oh was so full of wise words?"

He rolled his eyes, "Just don't tell anyone please."

"I won't."

He grinned, "So are you going to call him or...should I tell him there's a fire at your house and tell him to come over..."

"John, no." She said through her laughter.

"Then go see him."

"He doesn't want to see me."

"Get your scrawny ass up now." He demanded.

"I was fat several days ago..."

He rolled his eyes and pulled her up.

"John..."

"Go. You know him. He's most definitely sulking right now and you know it."

"So..."

He pulled her to the door and she whined, "John..."

"Go. Stop being stubborn. Go apologize."

"Yes dad." She mumbled out and he handed her cell phone and keys to her.

"I need my purse in case I get arrested."

He rolled his eyes and shoved her purse at her.

"You're a jerk."

"It's tough love."

She stuck her tongue out at him before heading to her car. She drove the short distance to his house and if she wasn't nervous already once she parked she was completely unable to think straight.

She breathed in before heading to the door and knocking hoping he wouldn't hear. Of course within seconds the door opened and Garrett stood there with a confused expression. More nerves swarmed her once her eyes met him. In typical fashion his hair was a mess and his shirt was no where in sight.

"Hi?" He questioned as he watched her.

She breathed in before jumping up and down on her toes and he just watched her unsure what she was doing here.

"I'm just going to...." She spoke and before he knew it her lips were on his. He finally reacted and placed his arms around her, holding her to him as they kissed.

When she pulled back, their eyes meet and she breathed in unsure what to now say.

"Well, um, ok..." He mumbled out.

She was now blushing as furiously as he was and she sighed, "Ok, well I'm just going to go now that I'm completely embarrassed..."

Before she could step from the porch he grabbed her by the arm.

"Wait, why are you leaving?" He asked spinning her around and she managed to shrug in response.

"You can't just kiss someone and leave, you know?" He replied with a grin.

"Pretty sure I can and plus I left John in my house alone, so it's probably going to be burnt to the ground when I get back..."

Garrett's smile widened, "Remi Quinn get your cute butt in this house now."

"Can we not do this? It was stupid and irrational and I let John get into my head!" She mumbled as she stepped into the house.

A chuckle escaped Garrett's lips, "Irrational? maybe. Stupid? No."

A blush lined her cheeks as she stood uncomfortably in the middle of the living room. He liked her like this, vulnerable and uneasy. It was odd for her to be so and he couldn't help but take advantage of it.

"So am I just standing here in hopes of this awkwardness killing me? Because it may in fact happen."

He let out a laugh as he stepped to her, bringing his hand to her face, "You are a different kind of girl, Remi Quinn."

She shrugged as her dark eyes met his blue ones. His thumb was now brushing over her cheek causing her whole body to feel like it was on fire.

"Well I'm glad I came here for you to tell me that. Otherwise I would have lived my whole life not knowing." She replied sarcastically which was even more than normal simply because she was nervous now.

His heartbreaking smile lit his face as his arm slid around her waist.

"Is this how our relationship is going to be? You have to out do me on everything?" He mused and she gave him a look, "How so?!"

"I mean, I was going to kiss you earlier and then you basically shot me down."

"I did not."

"Oh in the car you definitely did."

She rolled her eyes and he pulled her closer, "So go ahead and ask me on a date."

"I am most definitely not going to ask you on a date."

"See, I would believe that if I didn't think that in a few hours you would show up on my doorstep asking me."

Remi couldn't help but laugh, "That is not going to happen."

"That's what I assumed about that kiss and then what do you know? I can't take a chance, Remi Quinn. So ask me."

"I am not asking you out."

"Yes you are."

"Not in a million years."

"That's a long time, you sure about that?" He asked with a smirk and she rolled her eyes, shoving him back lightly. He grabbed her wrist, pulling her back to him immediately, "So tonight?" He asked boldly and she glared at him.

"7 works for me. Don't be late." He added smoothly as he dropped his hands from her. She didn't know where this boy was coming from but she was very fond of him. So much so she couldn't move simply because she was stunned a bit.

He grabbed her hand and pulled her to the door opening it for her, "7. Don't be late." He repeated with a smile as he leaned against the door.

"You're going to be very heartbroken when I don't show up."

Garrett shrugged, "Eh, something tells me you will."

"Excuse me, someone please call me when Garrett Nickelsen returns! Thanks!"

His smile didn't falter and she stepped out onto the porch.

"Oh and Remi?"

The girl spun around to face him and before she could even process what was happening, his lips landed on hers.

"You better show up or I'll find you." He breathed against her lips and she now could no longer breathe. A part of her wanted to ask if that was a promise because she wouldn't mind that happening.

Remi simply nodded and he pecked her lips once more before removing himself from her. She walked to her car a bit dazed and how she got back to her house she was uncertain.

Of course when she walked in John was sitting on her couch, feet propped up on her coffee table and chips now in a bowl in his lap.

"That was quick. He didn't turn you down did he? I swear I'll murder him if..."

"Chill out." She responded, falling beside him as a sigh left her lips.

"Please tell me you went."

"I did."

"And you didn't actually like knock on the door and kiss him did you?" He asked with a raised eyebrow and she nodded with a grin.

John laughed, "You're something else. Did the boy pass out?"

"No, he like turned into this like, well, a bit like you...hey stay away from my sweet Garrett! He doesn't need you corrupting him!" She said sternly and he laughed as he threw up his hands, "I played no part!"

"I think I have a date with him in a few hours."

"You think?"

"I mean, he like Jedi mind tricked me or something..."

"Ok, just know that sounds like him. Nerd."

She ignored his remark causing him to laugh.

"Dammit! He outwitted me. What the fuck! See, this liking people shit has made me off my game!" She shouted as the whole thing seemed to make sense now.

John was now in a fit of laughter, "This is hilarious. He may be your soulmate just because of this."

"This wouldn't have happened if I wasn't a complete mess and you put shit in my head..."

"Don't fucking blame me!"

"Stupid boy." She mumbled and he laughed once more, "Well my dear, looks like you need to go get ready so you can pick up your date."

"I am not going to him, he can come to me."

John rolled his eyes, "You're going."

"I hate The Maine." She mumbled as she stomped her way to her room all the while John laughed. Of course by the time 6:30 rolled around she was ready and a nervous wreck. John of course didn't help the situation as he sat on her bed watching her pace the floor.

"You do realize it's just Garrett right? I mean, he has a fucking comic book collection. Relax."

Remi couldn't help but laugh softly, "Shut up."

"No, you two already know who each other are, he likes you a lot, you like him, I'm not understanding why you are nervous! There's no point!"

She sighed looked over at the boy, "Ok. You're right."

He grinned as he closed the magazine he was aimlessly flipping through.

"Now go. You can't be late. I would say I'll wait up but I don't want you two stumbling in making out or something. I don't want to witness that."

Remi made a face and he chuckled as they left her room. John was right on some level. She had nothing to lose. He already knew the type of person she was, if he didn't know her by now he never would and clearly he did if he was acting this way towards her. She just needed to relax and have a good time...although it was easier said than done.
