Don't Forget

“Where is She?”

Eric's housemate was the one to answer the loud urgent knocking at the door. Mia was sitting at the kitchen island laughing hard at one of Eric’s jokes as he made breakfast, right before all hell broke loose.

“Where is she?” Connor’s voice said. He obviously didn't wait for an answer as he stumbled into the kitchen.

“Hey Connor,” Mia said brightly. The way he looked at her Mia was sure if he had laser vision he would have melted her face off by now.

“You,” Connor pointed, “You’re coming with me.” He charged forward and Eric stood in his way stopping him.

“We were just about to have breakfast.” Eric said, “Care to join us?”

“Do you realize she’s a minor?”

“From your tone I’m assuming you’re the only one in this room that isn't.” Eric smirked.

Mia stood up and moved between them pushing them apart, putting some distance between them.

“What are you doing here?” Mia asked Connor. She hoped to get his laser vision off of her friend.

“I could ask you the same question.” Connor’s laser vision returned her finally, “Where are your clothes?”

Mia crossed her arms feeling self conscious in Eric’s shirt for the first time since she put it on, “In Eric’s room but”-

“You’re father is hours away from filing a missing persons report, worried sick, and you’re here having breakfast with Wonder-Boy.”

Eric scoffed. His tongue went to his cheek and alarms went off in Mia head. She held out her hands again and managed somehow to get them back to being yards away from each other.

“Move Mia,” Eric said.

“No,” Mia kept her hands held out, “You can’t hurt each other unless you hurt me first.” They both visibly softened from her plea.

"Mia get your stuff and get dressed." Connor said, "I'm taking you home."

"Hold up," Eric said, "you don't have to go anywhere with him."

"The hell she doesn't," Connor said.

"You shut-up." Mia said to Connor. His mouth dropped open he was stunned, "You aren't helping anything coming in here trying to fight my friend."

"But,"-

"Just go chill-out in your car. I'll be out there in a little bit." She turned to look at Eric. There were veins protruding from his forehead from how tight he clinched his jaw shut.

"5 minutes," Connor said. Mia rolled her eyes and rounded on Connor again.

"15" Mia said crossing her arms.

"10 minutes." Connor huffed.

"Leave Connor!" Mia pointed to the door where Eric's housemate was pretending to be on his way to his room. Mia rolled her eyes. Leave it to Connor Butler to cause a scene for no reason. He slammed the door on his way out. Mia looked to Eric again. Eric was staring at the door as if Connor was still there.

"Sorry about all that," Mia attempted to wade through the tension, "I really did appreciate all this."

"Nah, this is some bullshit." Eric shook his head, "Earlier you came to me sobbing about that cabron and now you're leaving with him?"

"Did you hear what he said?" Mia said, "My dad's freaking out right now. Besides," Mia shrugged, "He won't do anything. He never actually does anything."

"It's not even about that Mia."

"Then what is it about?" Eric's jaw clenched shut again. Mia rolled her eyes "Men!" She said throwing her hands in the air.

She spun on her heels and went up stairs to Eric's room to get dressed then returned to the kitchen. Eric stood up from the kitchen island and handed her a plate of Huevos Rancheros with plastic wrap.

"Gracias" Mia said standing on her tippy-toes to kiss his cheek.

"Call me when you get home so I know you're safe."

"Uh I think I'll be grounded when I get home," Mia snorted.

"You're a clever girl." Eric smirked at her, "I'm sure you can figure it out."

Mia smiled at him, "I'll see you Monday."

"Call me or text, something."

"OK OK," Mia said exasperated as she closed his door behind her. She sighed. Now to deal with him. What was his problem?
