Empty With You

The City

"Ariana Jade Simms!"

The echo my my full name going through the whole entire house which sat in the Candor section of the city.

"This is by far the worst and stupid thing, you've ever done!" My mother shouted as I stood in the middle of the living room.

"I'm pretty sure there are worse," I mumbled under my breath as I stood in the middle of the living room.

"And with that Erudite boy!" She continued.

"Eric," I corrected her through gritted teeth. "His name is Eric. How hard is that to remember?"

She went on about something, lecturing about me skipping classes again and being caught by some leader of another faction with Eric.

Which shouldn't come as a surprise to her, Eric and I have have been friends since we were 10.

Since, I wasn't like all the others in my faction at an early age. I wanted more, no needed more in my life.

I craved the danger, craved the excitement, and was damned if anyone would deny me that or even lie to my face. I was loyal to the T and everyone knew that, yet even here in a faction so bent on the truth, I found that even those ones lied.

"I bet you're just glad that the Choosing Ceremony is just a year away," I spat at my mom as she rambled in her brisk pace through the house. "You'll be glad I'm gone, so why don't I save you the trip of where this speech is going and get it out there?"

"It is EXACTLY that kind of attitude that needs to be put in it's place." She glared at me as my father walked into the living room with a stack of papers in his hand.

"Yeah like-" I started when my father looked up from the bridge of his glasses towards me.

"You're going to be Marcus Eaton's assistant. Every day, after school. You'll do everything he says, no questions, no attitude." He kept a stern gaze on me as my blood boiled.

"All to save both of your reputations, right?" I scouffed then nodded towards my brother sitting on the couch. "You're all just so proud of him. The good son? Aren't you?"

"Ariana," My mother sighed.

"Jack Kang also agrees with us," My dad added.

"Unbelievable," I rolled my eyes and started to walk off.

"Would you rather it be another round of truth serums?" My dad questioned towards my retreating back as I shuddered.

"I hope you're happy Tyler," I looked over my shoulder. "Can't tell a damn lie."

I turned on my heel to walk towards the back door of the house to take a deep breath in of the cool night air. The air felt good against my skin. The night sky was flecked with bright stars. This city never looked so beautiful. Despite all these factions, all these rules, the city was gorgeous. Not a place for a Candor to explore I guess. But Candor isn't a place for someone like me, someone who was different.

"So, are you under house arrest and no longer to see the day again?" The voice next to me questioned which earned my head turn towards the figure.

His slightly thin but a bit muscled body stood leaning against the house frame. Blond hair swept back, piercing blue eyes, cutting through the darkness like the stars above me.

"No," I shook my head. "Besides, I wouldn't stay in even if I was told to."

"You sure like to defy everything," He chuckled.

"I can't help it," I shrugged, wrapping my arms around myself.

"So, what's your punishment?" He walked over to me to wrap his arms around me.

"I have to be Marcus Eaton's obedient assistant." I rolled my eyes at the darkness only to feel his warm laugh against my ear.

"Aww, you'd look adorable in Abnegation colours." He mocked.

"Shut up," I shoved him slightly. "I don't have to wear their colours, Eric. I thought you were smarter than that, being an Erudite and all."

"Touche," Eric kissed my cheek but I only let out an annoyed growl that he picked up on. "Choosing Ceremony is soon."

"Not soon enough." I grumbled.

"Hey," Eric's voice whispered in my ear. "Wanna get outta here?"

"I'm already in enough trouble. I don't want to push my luck any more tonight." I leant into his warm body.

"You won't, I'll have you back before they realize you're gone." Eric reasoned with me. "You can't mean to tell me in the seven years I met you, that this is the first time you're passing this up?"

"I'm not." I turned to look at him to see him dressed in the black pants and shirt he had on earlier when we were ditching classes.

"So," Eric drew out.

"So," I wrapped my arms around his neck, "you look really good in black."

"Mmm," Eric smirked at me. "Do I now?"

"Yes," I smiled as my fingers ran through his hair.

"I guess I should wear it more often," He smirked.

"I wouldn't get used to it." I smirked at him. "You're probably going to forever be an Erudite anyways."

"Wow." He started but I reached up to kiss his lips.

Slowly he returned the kiss back, smirking into it, when he pulled my arms down from his neck and took my heads. He gave me a quick smile and head jerk before running with me off into the night.

The two of us ran through the streets, dodging Dauntless guards and random Factionless or hell yeah Faction leaders. Eric wasn't always like this, he used to be the almost quiet, obedient boy. He did have a rather, um jerk-ish side to him, one would say. It wasn't pretty, it was probably worse than my defiant attitude.

I was the family rebel, yet underneath Eric's Erudite persona, I could see that he wanted more than I did. I wanted to be free in a sense, maybe live in a bit of danger.

But get to know Eric, and he would almost seem to want power, want to be that guy that everyone hates and fears yet looks up to.

For the most part, I got the good guy. The one who wanted nothing more than to make me happy. To make me smile. There were two sides to him, but I was the rebel Candor child, so I didn't judge him.

"Eric," I whined as he finally made it to one of the buildings in the empty city. "where are we going?"

"Now it wouldn't be a surprise if I told you, would it?" He smirked as he lead me up some stairs.

I followed him until we reached the roof of the building. It wasn't the highest point in the city but it still overlooked a good section of the city.

" I feel like you know me too well." I looked at him as I leant against the edge of the building.

Eric just laughed as he walked up to me and pushed his body slightly into me. His lips lightly touched mine before I started to kiss him back. That one kiss led to another, to us on the roof, slowly making out underneath the night sky.

It wasn't until we heard a noise on the roof of the building we were on or one next to us, that we both broke apart. Eric ran his fingers up and down my arms as I shivered a bit with the cold wind blowing at us.

"Cold?" Eric questioned.

"A little," I shrugged as he pulled me into him.

His warm chest made me smile as I took a deep breath in, the beat of his heart was pulsing through his chest. I listened to it for a few minutes before looking back up at him.

"We should get home," I mentioned as he let me slowly move away from him.

"Are you sure? I could keep you company in your bed?" He suggested.

"As much as I'd like to have you in my head with your arms around me, I don't want to test my luck tonight," I mentioned as he nodded and extended his hand.

"Fair enough." His thumb traced patterns into the back of my hand he now held.

"It's kinda hard to explain what you were doing in my room if I let you stay," I smirked at him.

"Okay, fine," Eric rolled his eyes a bit with a smile. "I'll walk you home."

"You're too kind," I watched as he walked down the stairs in front of me.

"I know, but I better get a full report of what happens with Marcus Eaton" Eric added.

"Of course" I smiled at him as he took my hand to take me back home.

Tomorrow was going to be an interesting new day, one that would slowly start to change the course of my life for days to come. I just didn't know it yet.

Yes, I am using the character looks from the movie. Why? Cause Jai Courtney is hot. But this is the start of my Divergent story that is going to start before there was any Tris yet. It'll be the year before Four becoming a Dauntless initiate too.
