Sequel: Hear Your Heart

Run Away With My Heart

12: What It Feels Like

Toying with the tattered whiskers of the stuffed tiger toy that sat in her lap, Olivia sighed a little, her mind whirring with the moment that had occurred a little over a day previous. It had been a game, at least that was how Olivia saw it, but part of her was sad that Iker had been denied the chance to kiss her. She knew that she shouldn’t have been, Iker was supposed to be nothing more than her friend, but part of her had been eager to kiss him and she couldn’t help but hope he felt the same way. She knew that it was just a second, they had been playing around like they had hundreds of times before, but her mind couldn’t help but wander to what Iker would have done if it wasn’t for Callie walking in. She wondered if he would have kissed her.

“Oli?”

Olivia jumped at the sound of her name being called and looked up, her stomach flipping a little as Iker smiled back at her shyly. She was a little surprised, part of her had expected that he would steer clear of her for a little while, but she was glad that he hadn’t. He was easily the best person at making her feel better, something she didn’t feel cooped up in her hospital room. “Iker” she noted “You came back” she added.

Iker nodded. “I did” he noted “And I bought you this” he added, extending the plastic bag over to her.

Olivia frowned and moved to take it, letting out a small groan as she leant over, pressing against her stitches. “Don’t hurt yourself Oli” Iker commented as he took a pace towards her. Olivia rolled her eyes and took the bag out of his hand, her blue eyes widening a fraction at the sight of the content.

“My favorite?” she pressed.

Iker smiled. “Of course” he noted, sitting in the chair beside her bed “A chicken burger on a brioche bun with a side of seasoned fries. I even remembered the sweet chili and barbeque dips that you insist on mixing even though it is disgusting” he added, his nose wrinkling slightly.

Olivia grinned. “You’re so sweet” she cooed “Gracias, Iker” she added, moving to press a kiss against his cheek.

Iker’s skin warmed a little at the contact before he peeked down at his feet, something which made Olivia sigh. “It’s awkward right?” she mumbled, setting the food out neatly on the table.

Iker shook his head. “No” he noted.

Olivia shook her head. “Don’t lie. You’re staring at your feet” she mused.

“And? Perhaps I just like my shoes” Iker defended.

Olivia scoffed. “That’s a pitiful line Iker” she commented, a slight smile on her face.

Iker shook his head. “It was just a second Oli” he murmured.

“It was just a game of chicken” she continued “We do it all the time, perhaps not with kissing, but we do” she noted.

Iker nodded. It was true, they did play chicken a lot with one another, but Iker couldn’t help but feel that that time was a little different. Having been kept away from Olivia, being near her again had awoken something in him, leading to a small part of him wanting to kiss her. It was a stupid thought, Olivia was still the same girl with the same feelings that she had been when Isobel had created a distance between them, but part of Iker couldn’t help but feel affectionate towards her. Being near Olivia was kind of like coming home and he wanted to show that somehow.

“So it’s not weird?” Olivia pressed.

“It’s only weird if we make it weird” Iker replied “We didn’t freak out after we made out that night, so why should we do so now? We didn’t even kiss” he added.

Olivia smiled. “Exactly” she grinned.

Iker nodded his head. “Then that’s sorted then” he noted “We’re OK?” he added.

Olivia smiled and nodded her head, shuffling the box of fries towards him. “We’re fine” she smiled.

Iker returned it and moved to take a piece of food from the box, only to stop as Olivia’s smaller hand brushed against his, causing him to pull back. Olivia frowned. “Are you alright?” she posed gently.

Iker nodded. “You just surprised me” he noted.

Olivia frowned. “Are you sure? You’re being oddly quiet and I don’t like it. Usually by now you’d have said something stupid” she quipped.

Iker shrugged. “I am fine” he insisted.

Olivia offered him a look before she shook her head. “You know, I would have preferred you avoid me if you’re just going to sit there and be all odd” she mumbled.

Iker sighed. “Oli” he murmured.

“Iker, if you can’t be honest and just admit that we fucked up, then just go” she mumbled, nibbling on the food he had plied her with.

Iker watched her for a couple of seconds before he sighed. “We did fuck up” he mumbled “But not in the way you’re thinking” he added.

Olivia frowned a little and moved to respond, only to have Iker take the food out of her hand, setting it neatly back on the table. “Oli, I uh…I am about to do something OK? And I don’t want it to weird you out or anything. OK?” he babbled.

Olivia quirked her eyebrow and nodded. “Alright” she mumbled.

Iker nodded his head shyly before he stepped a little closer to her, his hand gently setting on her cheek. Olivia frowned a little, but didn’t object. Part of her knew where he was going and wanted him to do it, even if it did change how they were forever, part of her just wanted to know what it was like to kiss him without being spurred on by alcohol. Iker smiled a little and brushed his nose against hers lightly, something which made Olivia close her eyes. Iker smiled a little at the action and edged a little closer to her, feeling her steady breath against his lips. ‘I’m really doing this’ his mind mused ‘I’m going to kiss Oli’ he grinned at the thought for a second before he edged forwards, pressing his lips against hers, sending him a little dizzy.
