Hear Your Heart

13: Don’t Try So Hard

Chewing on her lip, Olivia peeked at her reflection in the mirror, observing her frame meticulously. She didn’t know why she was so nervous, even despite their fights, Olivia had been alone with Iker in a romantic setting before, but she couldn’t shake the sense of trepidation which bubbled in the pit of her stomach. It was make or break, she had conceded to give Iker one solitary night to attempt to prove to her that their relationship wasn’t destroyed all recognition, and Olivia was a little nervous. Part of her wanted him to pull it off, part of her wanted him to prove that they should have still been together, but the larger part of her doubted it would happen. She wasn’t over it, what he had done to her, and she couldn’t help but think that she might never get over it. It had broken her heart and there was little he could do to repair it fully.

“Wow”

Olivia jumped a little and turned, her blue eyes landing on Iker who stood behind her, a tentative smile on his face. “You look beautiful, Oli” he added, allowing his dark eyes to survey over her frame.

“H…How did you get in here?” she squeaked.

“I passed Sergio who was on his way to put Thiago’s bag in the car, he let me in” Iker explained gently “And I am a little glad he did. This seems oddly reminiscent of our first date” he explained gently, his face still holding his fond smile.

Olivia smiled briefly, her mind flicking through the memory of their first date, before she moved to collect her jacket. “You know” Iker chimed as he watched her “If you’re serious about this being my shot to prove to you that we could still make this work, you should probably stop looking at me as though I am the worst thing on earth” he explained gently. It hadn’t been unexpected, Iker had fully anticipated some sense of hostility from Olivia, but he hoped she could put it aside. He wanted a few hours to show her that they still had the potential to make something good work between them, something he wasn’t going to be able to do if Olivia kept looking at him as though he would burn her if she touched him.

Olivia sighed. “I’m sorry” she murmured.

Iker shook his head. “Querida, please, for just a few hours, let your guard down with me. I want you to give this an honest shot” he explained, stepping towards her so that he could take her hand. “Oli, I want to show you that I still want you and hopefully that will help you decide as to whether you want me too” he explained, pulling her hand to his lips so that he could press a little kiss to the warm skin. “Por favor” he murmured,

Olivia chewed on her lip gently, but nodded, knowing that she had to give him a fair shot.

“Please tell me that we are close” Olivia murmured as she rested her head against the cool glass of the window, her hands pulling at the blindfold that Iker had placed on her eyes before she had gotten in the car. She didn’t like it, not knowing, and Iker couldn’t help but smile at how impatient she was getting. He’d always found the pout she wore when she didn’t get her own way adorable. “We’re nearly there, Oli, just a couple more minutes” he explained, steering the car down another street.

Olivia sighed. “You know I hate surprises” she mumbled.

“No, you don’t” Iker noted, turning another corner “You hate waiting. I bet you found out that Thiago was a boy at the first scan you could” he teased.

“It was the second one actually” Olivia replied “But only because Daniel made me wait” she muttered.

“Why did he make you wait?” Iker posed.

“Because he somehow convinced me that it would make the moment more special if I found out if it was a boy or girl when they were born. By the time the next scan came around, I had convinced him that he was stupid” she mused, the softest of smiles appearing on her face. Iker smiled at the sight of it briefly before he stopped the car, moving quickly to help Olivia out.

“Now, I hope that I called this right” he commented as he positioned himself behind her, his hands barely touching her hips. “But I remember when we first met, you used to talk about how much you loved flowers. I distinctly remember one night, when you were perhaps a little drunk, where you told me about wanting to run your own flower shop or something like that, so I bought you here” he explained gently, his fingertips shifting the blindfold off of her face. Olivia blinked a little before she looked ahead of her, a small gasp falling out of her mouth. “Iker” she breathed, her blue eyes fixed on the field of flowers that he had found for her “Iker, this is stunning” she whispered, awe echoing in every word.

Iker chuckled. “It’s a patch of flowers, Oli” he teased softly, earning a small smack against his shoulder.

“It’s beautiful” Olivia corrected.

“It looks better now that it has you here” Iker commented softly as he laced their fingers together.

Olivia bit her lip. “You…You don’t have to say things like that” she murmured.

“And you don’t have to stutter whenever I speak” Iker mused, leading her towards the table whilst had been set up in the middle of the flowers “Oli, it’s just me” he added gently as he dropped a kiss on her cheek, causing her cool skin to warm slightly.

“That’s why I stutter” Olivia mused as she moved to sat down, taking note of the plate of food he had provided. It was one of her favourite and she couldn’t help but be a little touched by the gesture. She had forgotten in the midst of their problems that he knew her better than anyone else did.

Iker nodded his head gently, offering her a smile as he pulled her seat out for her. “Then I will have to teach you not to stutter again, won’t I?” he posed gently.

Olivia smiled gently. “Perhaps you will” she mused gently.

Pulling the car to a stop, Iker spared a little look over at Olivia, wondering just what was going through her head. For him, it had been a pleasant evening, the first he had spent with Olivia since she had appeared back in his life, and he could only hope that it had been the same for her. It had felt relaxed, natural, and Iker hoped that that meant she would consider going out with him again.

“Sergio’s on his way back” Olivia commented as she peeked down at her lap “He said that Thiago was an angel” she added.

“He always is” Iker replied “I guess he gets that trait from his mother” he added, earning yet another blush on Olivia’s cheeks, the tenth or eleventh one that had appeared that evening.

“Iker” she complained gently.

“I like saying nice things to you, Oli, and judging by the colour on your cheeks, you like it too” Iker smiled.

Olivia shook her head. “It makes it seem like you’re trying to hard” she whispered.

“I am trying hard, Oli” he mused “I just wanted to give you a chance to see that I am not the worst person in the world” he added, nervously looking down at his hands.

Olivia shook her head. “I know that, Iker” she commented “But I don’t want you thinking that everything you do has to impress me. I fell in love with a bumbling moron who burned me with coffee, not some flawless knight in shining armor” she explained.

“I just want a chance” he whispered “Please” he added.

Olivia thought for a second before she did something which caught Iker slightly off guard. With little warning, she gently pushed herself out of her spot in the passenger seat and sat down in his lap, pressing a light kiss to his lips. “Call me” she mused softly before she pecked his lips once more and climbed out of the car.

Iker watched the car door close and rested his head against the headrest, his heart thumping almost audibly in his ears. He just wished he could know what was going through her mind.
