‹ Prequel: Run Away With My Heart

Hear Your Heart

30: The First Scan

Yawning, Iker stretched his arms above his head, feeling a lot more refreshed than he had done for the month previous. It was all still a little strange, waking up to the sight of LA was different from waking up to the sights of Madrid, but he knew it was something he was going to have to get used to. He’d signed a contract that would see him stay in LA for a couple of years and he had little intention of giving up quite yet. He still had a couple of years left in him and he wanted to use them before he started thinking about what to do next. Wrinkling his nose, he turned over beneath the covers and moved to place his arm around Olivia’s waist, only for it to fall flat against the cool mattress.

“Looking for someone?”

Iker blinked his dark eyes and lifted his head, his lips forming a small smile as he spotted the brunette stood in the doorway of their bathroom. It had been a welcome change, having Olivia and Thiago around had made things seem scary, and Iker was pleased that they had finally arrived. He doubted he’d had a better night’s sleep than the one he had gotten the day Olivia arrived. “What are you doing out of bed?” he posed softly “It’s still early and as far as I am aware, we don’t have anything to do until this afternoon” he added.

“Someone had to check on Thiago and you were dead to world” Olivia mused, setting a freshly brewed cup of coffee on the end “Besides, I would have been up in a little while anyway. I have a feeling that today is not going to be a great one in terms of aches and pains” she mumbled, rubbing her ever-growing bump gently.

Iker smiled at the sight of it and reached out for her, pulling her into a warm hug. “I can’t believe we get to see them today” he whispered gently, his hand moving beneath her shirt. It was exciting for him, the idea that he would actually be in the same room as Olivia when their scan was done, and he couldn’t wait for it. He’d missed it all first time around and was insistent that he didn’t miss a moment of Olivia’s second pregnancy. Olivia smiled softly and weaved her fingertips through his dark hair, holding him close. “I like seeing you like this” she murmured.

“I’m excited” Iker replied, leaning back a little “I have been waiting for this moment since you told me that you were expecting again” he added.

Olivia smiled and pressed a kiss to his forehead. “I like the paternal side of you” she noted “I have never seen a cuter thing than the look on your face when you hugged Thiago the other day” she mused happily.

Iker shook his head and moved to help her back into the bed beside him, affording him the chance to pull her closer. “You’re my little family, Oli” he whispered, his nose lighting touching hers “And nothing in this world makes me as happy as you, Thiago, and this little one” he added, his hand once more skimming over the small bump that she carried. Olivia’s skin warmed a little as she felt his fingers on her bump. “I love you” she whispered.

Iker smiled. “And I love you” he replied happily.

“Can you say ‘papa’?” Iker mused as he sat Thiago in his lap, trying to stop the little boy from fussing. It wasn’t ideal, the hospital waiting area was no place for a ten month old boy, but with no one else to take care of him, Iker and Olivia had been left with no choice. Iker was not going to skip out on the chance to see their second baby for the first time and that meant taking Thiago with them.

Thiago looked at his father for a second before he smiled. “Mama” he chirped.

Iker shook his head. “That’s not me, buddy, that’s the other one” he mused gently “Try to say ‘papa” he encouraged.

Thiago merely grinned. “Mama” he giggled.

Iker sighed and moved to place a kiss against the little boy’s head. “You’ll get there” he murmured gently “I know it took me a while to get a hang of it” he added, admiring the cute little smile that his son wore. Smiling, he kissed the baby’s head again before Olivia sat down beside him, her hand tentatively rubbing the crease of her arm.

“Was it that bad?” Iker posed.

Olivia shook her head. “Not at all, I just hate freaking needles” she grumbled.

Iker smiled and moved to take her hand, pulling it against his lips briefly, an action that made Olivia’s cheeks warm. “Better?” he teased gently.

“Perhaps” Olivia quipped.

Iker chuckled gently before Thiago shifted in his lap, his little arms reaching out to Olivia. “Someone wants his madre” the keeper noted, gently lifting his son up.

Olivia smiled gently and moved to take Thiago into her arms, kissing his cheek gently. “Are you being a good boy for papa?” she cooed, gently flattening out his dark hair. Thiago giggled happily before a nurse appeared, calling Olivia’s name.

“You ready for this?” Olivia cooed as she moved to her feet, settling Thiago down in his pushchair.

Iker smiled. “I have been ready for this for the last six weeks” he noted, following her into the midwife’s room.

“Miss Garcia” the midwife noted “You’re here for your twelve week scan yes?” she posed.

Olivia nodded. “I am” she confirmed.

“Well, I am Tracey and I will be your midwife” the midwife quipped.

“I’m Olivia, this is Iker, the father, and the big brother to be, Thiago” she noted, smiling at the sight of Thiago who stared around the room in wonderment.

Tracey offered the little boy a small look before she padded over towards the ultrasound machine, wordlessly instructing Olivia to settle up on the bed. “Bear in mind that this will be cold” Tracey noted.

Olivia nodded her head, but still grimaced when the cool gel made contact with her stomach, something which made Iker reach his hand out to hers, squeezing the smaller extremity gently. Olivia smiled up at him gratefully before a small thumping noise hit there air, causing Iker’s face to soften. “Is that…?” he whispered gently.

“That’s our baby’s little heart, Iker” Olivia confirmed, a grin on her face.

Iker blinked and stared over at the screen, his eyes marveling at the slightly undecipherable image. “It’s beautiful” he whispered gently.

Olivia smiled and pulled him closer, pressing a little kiss against his lips. “Thanks for knocking me up again” she whispered gently, earning a small laugh from the keeper who was captivated by the image of their child on the screen
