Fourteen
Emma’s POV- August 2014
“How are things going with loverboy?”
I looked up from the list we were done running errands. Who had asked the question? My housemate.
“Good, his birthday was last week” I said.
“He turned 21?”
“No, 20” I said as she put the last bag in the back.
I closed the door and she looked at me.
“Wait, you’re older than him?”
I hummed and nodded.
“Is there a problem with that?” I asked.
She shook her head and looked up at me.
“Not really, I assumed he was older”
I shook my head as we got into the car.
“He isn’t” I said as I put my seatbelt on.
My housemate nodded.
“So, what else do we need from the store?”
“Nope, we got everything on the list. Hopefully Max started the grill” I said.
She pulled out her phone as I pulled out of my parking spot. It was move in week, meaning I was in charge of about 45 returning students, Correction 90 because Max was injured and really couldn’t do much. Hanna was the other RA, and our new housemate. She was a graduating senior, but i knew her because she and Max had some classes together. She was from California, but not from LA. She was born and raised in San Diego.
“Let me ask him if he did that”
I nodded and began driving. My dad had been bothering me lately asking me to ask her if she wanted to intern with the family company. Apparantly Max had given him a good word on her.
“How was your summer?” I asked her.
“It was alright, I spent my whole summer looking for internships”
I glanced at her.
“You didn’t get any?” I asked.
She shook her head and pushed her hair back.
“No, and well I want to go to grad school back in California”
“You know my dad is an engineer, right?” I asked.
She looked at me and shook her head.
“I know, but I”
“He’s actually looking for an intern. For the summer” I said.
“That’s almost year from now”
I nodded.
“My dad does that, he has a few interns right now. Send your application via email” I said.
“I’ll bring it up later alright?”
I nodded; she would because she needed an internship.
“Thanks”
I smiled and nodded.
“Max praises you, and he doesn’t lie” I said.
She laughed and nodded.
“Max is incredibly smart, what exactly happened to his foot?”
I shook my head and looked at her.
“He won’t tell us what happened but his foot looked disgusting” I said.
She shook her head.
“So I’m guessing he might retire?”
I shrugged.
“I don’t know, his doctor told him he should. Max is stubborn though” I said.
She nodded.
“Yea, I know. He shouldn’t hurt his body like that though”
I nodded and I pulled into the school parking lot.
“Who was going to bring the cart”
“Haley” I said.
Haley was my former roommate from freshman year. Since I was guaranteed housing every year for being a Residant Assistant so was she because there was a room left.
“There she is”
I parked the car and as we got out I saw Haley making her way over.
“What’s wrong with Max’s foot?”
I locked the doors and turned to them.
“He injured it”
She nodded and her and Hanna hugged.
“My mom wanted me to tell you guys that dinner is on her tomorrow. Dress nicely”
I laughed and nodded; Haley’s mom was the best. Haley was from Tennessee and I remember my freshman year she was always inviting Max and I to dinner.
“Alright, let’s unpack this” I said.
We put all the stuff on the cart and began pushing it across campus.
“Filip gets here next week right?”
I looked at Haley and nodded.
“Yes” I said.
She smiled and nodded.
“Yay! I get to see Emma all smiley again”
“I am not smiling all the time” I said.
My phone buzzed and I chose to ignore the thought of pulling my phone out of my pocket.
“You smiled a bit, he probably texted you”
“It could have been Jackie” I said.
Haley looked at me.
“Nah, it was Filip”
Hanna laughed and they began chatting.
“So you met him at the library, that’s something”
I nodded and I spotted Max.
“Fucking finally”
Haley rolled her eyes.
“You try pushing this across campus”
I nodded and he looked at me.
“I need to elevate my foot”
“Well go do it, Hanna and I got this” I said.
He nodded and limped away.
“Dani just got here”
“Nice, tell her to come help. I want to see her hair”
I nodded and Haley went upstairs. Daniella was Haley’s roommate. When I saw I was going to be an RA I went to look for a roommate for her. Daniella was honestly the best person in the world, I had her for almost all my classes and her and Haley got along so well. Dani was from Alabama.
“Let’s get this seasoned”
I nodded and we began doing that. By the time Haley and Dani came back some food was in the grill. Hanna smiled as she put her hair up in a bun.
“You look so pretty as a blonde!”
I nodded agreeing and Dani just smiled. They hugged and Hanna went upstairs to make some rice and salads.
“I’ll help you, I love grilling”
I nodded and she hugged me.
“Max looks like shit”
I laughed and nodded.
“He does” I said.
“I propped his foot up for him, and I think he’s asleep”
“That’s good” I said.
She nodded.
“What exactly happened?”
“Ask him, he won’t tell me” I said.
She nodded and flipped the patties.
“It was probably something stupid”
“Probably” I said.
She hummed and reached for a potato chip.
“I’m starving. I drove from home”
“Wow” I said.
She shrugged and looked at me.
“When is your boyfriend coming from Sweden?”
“Next week, you can formally meet him” I said.
She nodded and smiled.
“I know! He’s so handsome, that guy is lucky to be dating you”
I smiled and she patted my butt lightly.
“I followed him on Instagram, I didn’t know you were older”
I nodded and she smiled.
“Who cares about that, right? Is he good?”
I smiled and laughed. Of course she would ask that.
“Have you?”
I shook my head and she hummed.
“He looks like he knows what to do”
I laughed and she changed the subject.
“How was home?”
I nodded.
“It was nice, I missed it” I said.
“I missed home as well, but I was ready to come back”
I nodded at her and she smiled.
“Excited for the school year?”
Of course I was.
“Yea, I’m excited. I can finally declare my business major” I said.
She smiled and nodded.
“That’s great!”
I nodded and pulled my phone out. I looked at the text I had from Filip, as well as a Snapchat from him. Dani looked at my screen as I pressed on the snapchat. It was a video from Filip, trying to pack.
“He’s too cute”
I smiled and I pressed on my phone so it could record.
“Meanwhile here in Nashville we are grilling” I said.
Dani waved at the phone as she flipped the weenies. I sent it and I put my phone in my pocket.
“Girl, you have it bad”
I laughed and looked at her.
“Your eyes light up when you hear his voice”
“They do not” I argued.
My phone buzzed and I pulled it out of my pocket.
“You have a goofy smile on your face”
I laughed and pressed on the snapchat.
“Food looks great! I can’t see your beautiful face though”
He smiled big and I double tapped on the screen. I pressed on the screen and I smiled.
“Such a charmer. This is the only way I can get my residents to come meet me” I said
Dani waved again.
“Hi Filip!”
The video ended and I sent it.
“You’re blushing”
“Shhh or you get no food” I told her making her laugh.
“You wouldn’t do that”
It’s true, I wouldn’t but I needed her to stop poking fun of me. I admit I really liked Filip and each time I heard his voice I smiled big. I changed the subject by telling her I was thinking about going brunette. I was a blonde, but I admit I did love having dark hair.

My phone buzzed and I chose to ignore the thought of pulling my phone out of my pocket.
“You smiled a bit, he probably texted you”
“It could have been Jackie” I said.
Haley looked at me.
“Nah, it was Filip”
Hanna laughed and they began chatting.
“So you met him at the library, that’s something”
I nodded and I spotted Max.
“Fucking finally”
Haley rolled her eyes.
“You try pushing this across campus”
I nodded and he looked at me.
“I need to elevate my foot”
“Well go do it, Hanna and I got this” I said.
He nodded and limped away.
“Dani just got here”
“Nice, tell her to come help. I want to see her hair”
I nodded and Haley went upstairs. Daniella was Haley’s roommate. When I saw I was going to be an RA I went to look for a roommate for her. Daniella was honestly the best person in the world, I had her for almost all my classes and her and Haley got along so well. Dani was from Alabama.

She shrugged and looked at me.
“When is your boyfriend coming from Sweden?”
“Next week, you can formally meet him” I said.
She nodded and smiled.
“I know! He’s so handsome, that guy is lucky to be dating you”
I smiled and she patted my butt lightly.
“I followed him on Instagram, I didn’t know you were older”
I nodded and she smiled.
“Who cares about that, right? Is he good?”
I smiled and laughed. Of course she would ask that.
“Have you?”
I shook my head and she hummed.
“He looks like he knows what to do”
I laughed and she changed the subject.

“It was nice, I missed it” I said.
“I missed home as well, but I was ready to come back”
I nodded at her and she smiled.
“Excited for the school year?”
Of course I was.
“Yea, I’m excited. I can finally declare my business major” I said.
She smiled and nodded.
“That’s great!”
I nodded and pulled my phone out. I looked at the text I had from Filip, as well as a Snapchat from him. Dani looked at my screen as I pressed on the snapchat. It was a video from Filip, trying to pack.
“He’s too cute”
I smiled and I pressed on my phone so it could record.
“Meanwhile here in Nashville we are grilling” I said.
Dani waved at the phone as she flipped the weenies. I sent it and I put my phone in my pocket.
“Girl, you have it bad”
I laughed and looked at her.

I laughed and pressed on the snapchat.

He smiled big and I double tapped on the screen. I pressed on the screen and I smiled.

Dani waved again.
“Hi Filip!”
The video ended and I sent it.
