The Final Goal

Chapter 3

Skylar slowly opened her eyes and blinked against the sun streaming through the window. She felt someone's arm wrapped around her waist and turned to see she was lying in bed with Downie. She smiled seeing him lazily blink his eyes at her. "Good morning," he said smiling. Skylar leaned in and kissed his lips. "Good morning," she whispered back. "Last night was-"

"Great," Downie finished for her and she giggled. "Yeah it was," she agreed and stretched getting out of his bed. "We have practice today, do you want to come with? You can see your brother and he can take you home after or something," Downie said. Skylar nodded, grabbing her dress and pulling it on.

"Aw c'mon I think you look so much better without them," Downie said and Skylar smirked. "Yeah I bet, but you're going to be late to practice if we don't leave soon." Downie looked at his watch and yelped, jumping out of bed. Skylar watched him run around the room throwing his clothes on and grabbing the things he would need for the day. When he finished, they rushed out of his apartment and hopped into his car. Downie started driving quickly towards the arena, desperately trying to get there on time. Skylar felt him slip his hand on her thigh, pushing her dress up just enough to move his fingers in soft, caressing circles on her thigh. Her breathing became more ragged at the soft feel of his warm fingers and she saw Downie smirking out of the corner of her eye, probably knowing what he was putting her through. She struggled to maintain her cool composure, not wanting give the man any satisfaction even though his soft touches were making her insides melt.

It seemed like it had been hours since they left Downie's apartment, but when they arrived, Skylar got out of the car and half-heartedly punched Downie in the shoulder. "What was that for?" he asked, laughing at her expression. Skylar rolled her eyes. "You know what!" she said, struggling to keep the smile off her face. She didn't want to admit that she had liked his hand on her. The way the warmth of his hand seeped into her skin and turned her body to fire, made her want to jump him right then and there. "What's wrong? Feeling a bit flustered?" Downie asked grinning, sliding a hand back down to her thigh, but Skylar instantly slapped it away. "Not right now, okay? Wait until we are in private; I don't want people to think I only moved in with Patric to screw his teammates," she said, stepping back to put some distance between them. She knew she would be forced to tell Patric since she was never able to lie to him. Something about lying to her brother made her stomach churn.

Walking inside, Skylar saw Patric in the locker room along with the rest of the team. They all looked up as Skylar and Downie entered and some of them smiled. "Have fun last night you two? You look a little tired," Crosby said, a knowing smirk plastered on his face. He looked like he was the cat that swallowed the canary. Patric looked up and Skylar saw his eyes narrow. Skylar couldn't tell if he was really upset or just trying to play the role of the protective older brother. She walked over to him, leaving Downie to talk to his friends and get ready for practice.

"So you went home with Downie last night," he said more as a statement than a question. "Yeah I did. It was just a one time thing," Skylar said, trying to defend herself. "Okay okay I don't need to hear anymore," Patric replied, covering his ears. Skylar laughed and walked over to Crosby. "Hey Crosby!" She said, smiling at him. He was in the middle of putting on his hockey gear; his shirt was halfway on and Skylar could just barely see the muscles under his armor. He looked at her, either ignoring the fact she was staring or oblivious to it, and smirked, "I see Downie got some action last night." Skylar laughed and said, "What, are you jealous?" Crosby smiled and shook his head, "Nope, but I think someone else was," he trailed off and nodded his head towards Fleury who was sitting on the other side of the room glaring at Downie. If looks could kill, Downie would probably be dead ten times over. "He really shouldn't be jealous of Downie. Fleury is more attractive and it's not like I'm a prize," Skylar said, looking at her shoes.

She never knew why, but when it came to people she really liked, she got very shy. Her pulse would quicken and her mouth would get dry, rendering her unable to speak a word. Skylar just met the guy but felt some sort of odd connection between them and she couldn't deny that she was drawn to him. "Skylar, you are a great person from what I've heard. Patric makes you sound like a saint. Any guy would be lucky to have you, so why don't you go over and talk to him?" He said giving her a reassuring smile. She looked over at him and nodded her head, trying to believe in herself and calm down.

Skylar got up and walked over to Fleury. She sat down next to him and he looked up at her, surprised. "Hey!" she said, smiling at him. His goalie mask was resting on top of his head and Skylar was tempted to pull it off, wanting to see his thick black hair. "Hey," he replied and his voice, thick with a French accent, sent shivers down her spine. "Would you want to go to dinner sometime... or come over to my house and I can cook you dinner?" Skylar asked, hoping Fleury would accept. He looked at her and smiled. "I'd be happy to!" Skylar smiled back and said, "So can I have your number and we can get details about this dinner date later?"

Skylar watched his face, waiting for a reaction. She breathed a soft sigh of relief when Fleury smiled and handed her his phone. Skylar quickly typed in her number and saved it in his contacts. "Just text me whenever you're up for it," she said and Fleury nodded his head, showing that he would when he was available. "Okay well I'll see you later, Fleury," Skylar said, and she leaned in and hugged him, smiling. She pulled back and walked out of the room calling over her shoulder, "Bye Patric I'll see you at the house!" She didn't wait for his response and was out the door and on her way home, forced to take a taxi because she didn't have her car. She could have waited for practice to end, but she didn't feel up to it. She got in the house and sighed. Skylar hadn't had a shower since the day before and she could still smell Downie on her, so she decided to go take a nice, long, hot shower.

Skylar got out of the shower feeling nice and clean. Her phone was on the sink playing "Young and Beautiful" by Lana Del Rey and she was softly singing along. Pulling on a Penguins shirt and some jeans, she looked at her reflection in the mirror. Skylar applied a little bit of makeup, hoping to make her blue eyes stand out more with a bit of black eyeliner, and left the bathroom. She walked into the living room because she heard voices and saw Patric and most of the team watching TV. "Oh I guess practice ended then?" Skylar said, walking over to her brother. "Yeah we came here to hangout," Beau said, looking at Skylar and smiling. She couldn't believe how often Beau was in a good mood. He was always smiling and joking around, like he was always happy. Skylar now understood why he was given the nickname "Sunshine". It made sense, since his smile lit up the whole room.

Snapping out of her thoughts, Skylar saw all of the seats in the room were taken. She wanted to sit down, but didn't really want to sit on the floor. She saw Downie, Fleury, and Letang sitting on one couch and Beau, Crosby, and Geno on another. She didn't want to stand like Patric and Paul, so she went over to Downie, who smiled, and sat on his lap. "Ahh you're a nice seat Downie," she said smirking. Downie just laughed and pulled her up into a more comfortable position, groaning a bit as she shuffled against him. "Problem Downie?" Crosby asked from the other couch across from them, laughter in his voice. Skylar had no doubt in her mind that Sid knew why Downie groaned. She would have to be careful around Sid, since it seemed like nothing is able to get past his watchful, knowing eyes. "Nope all good," Downie managed to get out, leaning back. Skylar took the extra room gratefully and turned her body, leaning back on Fleury so she was laying across the three players. "Man you guys are comfortable," she said, closing her eyes and yawning, and before she knew it, she was fast asleep.

Fleury's P.O.V.

Fleury looked down at Skylar. Her face was turned in his lap and he could feel her warm, shallow breathing. It was driving him insane. He squirmed a little in his seat, trying to shift her, but it didn't help. He could feel himself slowly getting excited and really hoped that no one would notice. "Wow you really must have tired her out last night Downie," Beau said, smiling. Fleury couldn't help but feel slightly jealous that Downie got to spend a night with her. "Yeah she was great in bed too," Downie said, bragging to his teammates. "Hey man, not cool! I don't need to hear that!" Patric growled. Downie shrugged, obviously not caring about what Patric said, and turned back to Letang and continued the conversation they had been having. Fleury, no longer paying attention, went back to staring at Skylar, while gently running his fingers through her soft, blond hair.
