We Could Be Something

129: What Do You Think?

Resting against the kitchen counter, Adriana let a small sigh fall out of her mouth, her eyes closing for a couple of seconds. It had been a busy morning, between the three children who all wanted her attention, she had barely had a second to herself, but she grateful for a couple of minutes of quiet, even if she knew that it wouldn’t last for too long, she was grateful for a couple of seconds to herself.

It had been a couple of days, after Iker had dropped the news that he was contemplating retirement on her, they’d both avoided talking about it for a little while, but Adriana knew that they couldn’t avoid the topic forever, even if she didn’t quite know what she wanted to say to him, she knew that they would have to talk eventually.

Pushing a hand through her blonde hair, she listened to the soft rumble of the kettle for a couple of seconds before the sound of someone clearing their throat snipped into her ears, causing her to blink her blue eyes open, peeking at Iker who stood in the doorway, Gabriela in his arms and a slightly amused smile on his face. “You OK?” he quipped brightly.

Adriana rolled her eyes a little. “I was just taking a couple of seconds before I headed back through to the living room” she noted softly “What’ve you done with Luca and Olivia?” she added, carefully moving to collect Gabriela from his arms.

Iker shook his head. “They’re set up with a few of their toys in the living room, but I need to start getting ready for training so I thought I would come and check on you” he noted softly “I’ve still got a couple of minutes, if you want me to leave you to it” he added, a soft expression on his face.

Adriana feigned thought for a couple of seconds before she shook her head, offering him a soft smile. “I’ll be fine” she noted softly “And you should get moving. I’ll see you when you get home” she added, her voice twitching a little.

Iker noted the slight twitch in her voice and tilted his head, a small frown playing at the corner of his mouth. “Addie?” he posed.

Adriana, who’d flicked her attention towards Gabriela who babbled softly in her arms, lifted her head a little before she shook it. “We need to have a conversation, Iker” she noted softly “What you said the other night…”

“It was sudden” Iker interjected softly “I know that, but I wanted you to know that it was on my mind. I should have been more tactful, more careful rather than just dropping it on you like that but I thought…I thought you should know that it was something that I am thinking about, Addie” he added, his tone soft and shy. He knew that it had surprised her, from the moment that the words had fallen out of his mouth, she had looked more than slightly surprised, and whilst he regretted that he had dropped it on her like he had, he didn’t regret saying it. He wanted her to know that he was thinking ahead.

Adriana mulled his words over for a couple of seconds before she shook her head. “It’s a big step, Iker” she noted softly.

“I know it is” Iker agreed softly, nodding his head “And, at the moment, it is only something that I am thinking about, but I wanted you to know first. I want to know what you think, Addie” he added before he stepped towards her, pressing a soft kiss against her temple.

Adriana closed her eyes at the feel of his lips against her skin before she pulled away, offering him a small smile. “You really want to know what I think?” she quipped, offering him a playful look.

Iker chuckle a little before he nodded his head. “You’re kind of my wife” he quipped “And that means your opinion is kind of important to me. I know that I dropped it on you suddenly, and I am not expecting you to tell me how you feel right now, but I would like to know what you think eventually” he added gently before he ducked down, pressing a soft kiss against her lips.

Adriana startled a little, slightly caught off guard by the soft kiss, before she leant into him, extending the kiss for a couple of seconds before Gabriela let out a small whimper, causing her parents to carefully pull away from one another. “I think someone would like her mama’s attention fixed on her and not on me” Iker quipped, offering her a boyish smile.

Adriana admired his smile for a second before she shook her head. “I should be getting back to the children” she mused softly “And you should be getting ready for training. Your coach will be irked if you’re late” she added, offering him a soft smile.

Iker spared a small look down towards his watch before he nodded his head. “I should get moving” he noted “But you will think about it?” he posed, peeking towards her softly. He knew that it was big deal, the idea that he was contemplating retirement was huge, but he wanted Adriana to think about it, even if she didn’t agree with him, he wanted to get her input before he made the decision.

Adriana quirked a small smile before she nodded her head. “Of course I’ll think about” she mused softly.

Iker mirrored her smile for a couple of seconds before he ducked into her, stealing another light kiss. “I’ll see you later, nena” he mumbled between light kisses.

Adriana held onto him for a couple of seconds longer before she ducked back, allowing him to duck out of the room. Shaking her head a little, she watched after him for a couple of seconds before Gabriela let out a small whimper, pulling her attention down towards her. She knew that it was a big step, the idea that Iker was contemplating retiring was huge, and she wanted to take a little time to think about it, wanting to ensure that between them, they made the right call.
