Somebody Like Me

Pulling her dark hair up into a ponytail, Cassie let out a small yawn, her green eyes settled on the tray of food which sat on the counter ahead of her. It was still early, with it being Sergio’s birthday, she’d made sure that she had gotten up a little earlier than usual to ensure that she had time to prepare his favourite breakfast, and she wanted to surprise him with it, even if it had meant skipping out on a little while extra in bed. She wanted to make a fuss of him.

It was the first one, despite the fact that they’d been together for both of their birthdays the previous year, neither she nor Sergio had made much of a fuss, and wanted to make one that time around, even if she knew that Sergio had a match the following evening. She still wanted to make a fuss of his birthday.

Checking the contents of the tray, she carefully brushed a few loose hairs off of her face before she moved to lift it up, carrying it up the stairs carefully. Reaching the bedroom door, she tentatively nudged it open before she took a couple of steps inside, her green eyes settling on Sergio who was still curled up on his side of the bed, his snores filling the quiet bedroom.

Quirking a small smile, she watched him sleep for a couple of seconds before she padded towards her side of the bed, carefully settling the tray down onto the end table before she knelt down on the bed, leaning down to press a light kiss against the spot just below his ear. “Sergio?” she murmured softly.

Sergio stirred a little at the sound, but didn’t wake up, something which made Cassie smile a little before she gently nudged his shoulder, pressing a light kiss against his cheek. “Sergio, come on” she mumbled softly “I made breakfast and everything” she added, poking his side slightly.

Sergio shifted a little before he blinked his dark eyes open, a small frown appearing at the corner of his mouth. “What time is it?” he mumbled quietly.

Cassie, who’d moved to get herself settled beneath the duvet, shrugged. “It’s about 8:30” she mused softly “But I made breakfast and I thought you’d want the opportunity to enjoy it before you headed off to training” she added, sipping on her glass of orange juice.

Sergio made a small sleepy noise before he pushed himself up slightly, something which made Cassie shake her head, a soft laugh falling out of her mouth. “How did you cope with Noah’s night feeds?” she quipped impishly, placing a cup of juice into his hand.

Sergio offered her a playful glare before he shook his head, a small smile appearing at the corner of his mouth. “You made me breakfast?” he posed.

Cassie nodded. “I did” she mused “It is your birthday after all” she added, offering him a light smile as she moved to place the tray of food between the two of them.

“Aw, you remembered?” Sergio teased impishly as he picked up a plate of food.

Cassie rolled her eyes at his joke, something which made Sergio laugh softly before he gently leant towards her, pressing a soft kiss against her cheek. “Gracias for breakfast, Cass” he mumbled softly “You didn’t have to” he added gently pressing a kiss to her other cheek.

Cassie’s cheeks warmed a little at the soft touch before she shook her head. “We didn’t exactly make a fuss of our birthdays last year” she mused softly “I mean, yours came only a couple of weeks after we got together and mine only a few weeks after that and so I thought I’d try a little harder this time” she added, her hand gently messing around with the duvet cover.

Sergio watched the small movements of her hand before he gently shook his head, his fingers slotting through hers so that he could lift her hand, pressing a soft kiss against the warm skin. “I like that you want to make a fuss, Cassie” he mused softly “And you can rest assured, when your birthday rolls around, I’ll return the favour” he added, pressing another kiss against her hand.

Cassie shook her head gently before she leant into him carefully, pressing a soft kiss against his lips. “Happy birthday, Sergio” she mused softly, sneaking another couple of soft kisses.

Sergio held onto her for a couple of seconds, enjoying the kiss briefly, before the sound of Noah’s stirring filled the air, causing Cassie to pull back from him. “I should go and get him” she mused softly “But you should stay here and enjoy the breakfast I made for you. You’ve got a little while before you need to get ready for training and so you should relax” she added softly before she pushed herself up to her feet, moving to step out of the room.

Sergio watched her out of the room before he quietly shook his head, a small amused smile on her face. It had been a while, he and Cassie had been together for over a year, but he liked the idea that she was still a little shy around him. It was one of the things that he liked about her.

Carefully lifting Noah above his head, Sergio quirked a bright grin, admiring the fit of giggles which fell out of the little boy’s mouth. It had been a quiet day, with Real Madrid due to play the following night, Sergio had been keen to insist that any plans that Cassie came up with for his birthday revolved around their home, but he had to admit that he had enjoyed himself, even if it had just been a quiet night in with Cassie and Noah. He had adored the opportunity to spend some time with his little family.

“You’ve got the cutest laugh, Noah” he mused as he carefully moved to lay down on the living room floor, settling the baby on his chest “But I supposed I shouldn’t be surprised. You’ve got all of your madre’s adorable traits” he added, smoothing Noah’s hair out slightly.

Noah pouted a little, not liking being held in place by Sergio’s hands, before he carefully lifted a hand, placing it on Sergio’s face. Sergio smiled a little at the action and pressed a soft kiss against his palm, something which made Noah giggle softly.

“Am I interrupting something?”

Sergio, who’d been quietly fussing over Noah, lifted his stare towards the door at the sound of Cassie’s voice before he quirked a bright smile. “No” he noted “Me and Noah were just messing about before you came to put him to bed” he added impishly.

Cassie, who’d moved to settle down on the couch, rolled her eyes gently before she shook her head. “I only came through to tell you that dinner is almost ready” she mused softly.

Sergio, who’d moved to babble to Noah, nodded his head quietly before he flicked his attention back towards the little boy, playfully lifting him above his head, something which caused the baby to squeak with laughter.

Cassie watched the two of them for a couple of seconds, admiring the wide smiles they both wore, before she shook her head, a warm smile pulling at the corner of her mouth.

“You’re smiling at us” Sergio quipped as he sat up, breaking the quiet which had settled around them.

Cassie nodded her head. “You’re very cute” she mused softly “I mean, individually, you’re both cute, but together…I’m a lucky girl” she added, her voice warm and kind.

Sergio offered her a boyish grin before he ducked his head, pressing a kiss against Noah’s cheek. “Your mama loves us, Noah” he teased brightly.

Cassie spared another roll of her green eyes, something which made Sergio chuckle before he carefully pushed himself to his feet, pressing a quick kiss against her forehead. “For what it is worth, both me and Noah love you too, Cass” he fussed quietly.

Cassie spared him a soft smile before the sound of the oven timer as well as her phone reached her ears, causing her to shake her head a little. “Do you think you could go and check on dinner for me whilst I see who is calling?” she posed, moving to collect her phone from its spot on the coffee table.

Sergio offered her a playful salute before he ducked out of the room, something which made Cassie giggle softly before she peeked down at her phone, frowning a little at the sight of her editor’s name which filled the screen. Pausing for a second, she briefly contemplated answering it before the sound of Noah’s giggles filled the air, causing her to shake her head. Rejecting the call, she placed the phone down before she padded through the kitchen, sure that the call could wait.
