Wreckage From the Past Haunts Me; Shakes Me to the Bone

I smiled as I watched Jimmy dance around the room with Vicki in his arms. The sounds of their laughter and Aidyn’s giggling/screeching was drowning out the sound of 311 in the background. Aidyn was clapping his hands together and swaying back and forth in front of me, dancing to the music. Once “Hey You” was over, Jimmy set Vicki on the floor and picked Aidyn up. He smiled down at me before running outside, Aidyn giggling in his arms. I looked down at Vicki, who shrugged, before picking her up and walking outside. The sight we saw was not one we expected, instead of seeing Aidyn in the snow with snow covering him, it was Jimmy. Aidyn was sitting on his stomach covering him with snow.

“This is cold!” Jimmy said right as snow was dropped in his face. I laughed and set Vicki down so she could cover her dad with snow as well before I walked over to the patio.

“Well it’s not gonna be hot babe.” I said as I sat down on the cold wooden floor.

“Come play with us Mama!” Vicki yelled as Aidyn yelled Mama.

“I will in a few minutes. Mama’s not feeling the best right now ok?” I said as I started to feel a sharp pain go through my knee. Jimmy looked worried for a second before getting side tracked when Vicki hit him with a snowball. I laughed quietly at the big kid I call my boyfriend as he chased her around with Aidyn still in his arms. I placed a hand on my knee hoping to relieve some pressure by rubbing it. It felt like my knee was trying to push out the screws. Jimmy grabbed a little bit of snow and dumped it on Vicki’s head making her scream as the cold, wet, substance ran down her face. I got up ignoring the pain and picked up snow building a small snowball for Aidyn. While Jimmy was distracted with Vicki, I placed the snowball in Aidyn’s hand the helped him throw it at Jimmy’s face. Jimmy looked like he was taken back for a minute before smiling a devious smile. He set the kids a side for a second before launching himself at me. I landed with a thud, glaring at him playfully as the cold soaked through my pants, making my knee hurt even more. Jimmy seemed to sense it cause he quickly got off and grabbed the kids.

“Why don’t we go take warm baths and watch movies. It’s dinner time.” Jimmy said as he stared at me. I nodded and picked up Vicki making him glare and pull her out of my arms. I sighed running a hand through my hair before walking into the house with him following me. I walked into the house and took Aidyn out of his arms ignoring his protest and walked into the bathroom. I started the warm water and sat with Aidyn on the floor as it heated up.

“Mama.” He cooed as he played with the hair that had fallen in my face. I sighed as I remember that his first birthday was in a month.

“My baby boys growing up huh?” I asked as I put my forehead against his. He smiled and laughed before shaking his head, not knowing what I said, but feeling the need to disagree. I smiled and laughed quietly as well.

“Exactly! You’re not allowed to grow up ever. No girls, no school, no band, no experimenting with various substances. None of it!” I said as I kissed his head.

“He won’t live a life if you don’t let him grow up.” Jimmy said from the doorway.

“Bullshit!” I said as I pouted.

“How do you figure?” He asked as he reached over and turned off the water.

“Because he can have a life, just a boring one.” I said still pouting. He laughed before kissing my head.

“You can’t do that to him.” He said as he set Vicki down on the toilet. You would think that giving them a bath would be easy since you could see the exhaustion on their little rosy red faces, but no. Why should it be easy?! So after many times of getting splashed we finally got both of the two more then sleepy kids out of the bath and changed into their pjs. Vicki was changed into her Lady Bug shorts set, yes shorts, and her pink and blue socks. Aidyn now in blue skull shorts romper with blue socks. I set Aidyn in his car seat and changed into my pajamas deciding that I would just take a shower in the morning and let Jimmy take one tonight or that I would take one after the kids went to bed if I could move. I laughed as Vicki spun around in circles on the bed as I put on my knee high socks. I sat down on the edge of the bed and watched her, making sure she didn’t fall off. I could hear Aidyn’s soft coos from a few feet away. He was playing with Jimmy’s keys...Not exactly sure how he got those, but he’s happy.

“Hey dinners done.” Jimmy said as he walked back into the room. He smiled at Vicki before getting an evil smile on his face. I shook my head, but just moved out of the way picking up Aidyn in the process. He put his hands out in front of him, showing Vicki he was going to tickle her, but her young mind didn’t process it in time and soon she was screaming as Jimmy tickled her sides. She was tossing and turning trying to get away from her dad as he just laughed. Aidyn screeched slightly making me laugh while adjusting him on my hip.

“Babe come on the foods gonna get cold.” I said as I walked out of the room. He was quickly behind me with a still giggling Vicki in his arms. I set Aidyn on the floor next to the couch and walked into the kitchen to get his bottle knowing he’d want that after dinner. I grabbed it out of the fridge before walking back into the livingroom where Jimmy had Vicki at the coffee table happily munching on Chicken strips and he was cutting up the chicken in small bite size pieces for Aidyn to chew. I sat down on the floor next to Vicki and smiled as she held up a strip. I smiled and took a small bite.

“Yummy.” I said as she took a bite. She laughed and threw her arms up while laughing.

“Baby girl no playing while we eat.” Jimmy said. His fatherly side was coming out making me smile. Who would have thought that The Rev, the craziest drummer I know of, would actually have a child and take in another one without a second thought.

“What’s on your mind Mama?” Jimmy’s voice rang out breaking me out of my thoughts.

“My family is amazing.” I said as I felt something tug on my neck. I looked down to see that Aidyn was pulling on my necklace and spiting out the chicken.

“Thank you baby boy.” I said as I caught it. Disgust was written on my face I’m sure, but could you blame me? I set the food in a napkin that Jimmy had set on the table and smacked Jimmy slightly as he laughed.

“Mama no more.” Vicki said as she pushed her food away as well. I nodded and took all of our food and put it in the kitchen before grabbing my meds which Jimmy had put on the counter. I leaned against the wall, looking at one of the greatest sights ever. My fiancé had my son in his arms, feeding him, while his beautiful baby girl was laying down with her head placed in his lap and with his free hand was running his fingers through her hair while Tinkerbell rang through in the background. My eyes met Jimmy’s and I swear you could just see the love and happiness in his eyes, but there was worry present as well. Worry for him mom and for me. I pushed off the wall and walked over to the couch sitting down next to Vicki as she faded out of consciousness. She woke up enough to crawl into my arms, which I wrapped around her.

“I love you Mama...Daddy too.” She said as she placed her head in the crook of my neck.

“We love you too baby girl.” I said as I kissed her forehead. She snuggled a bit more into my neck and soon her breath was even. I looked down to see that Aidyn was now asleep as well.

“Lets get them into bed.” Jimmy said as he stood up. I nodded and got up walking into the bedroom and placing Vicki in the middle. In our rush we had forgotten Aidyn’s bed and we only have one room here so the kids are sleeping in the same bed as us for the rest of the trip. I didn’t mind though after not seeing them for a month and a half I wanted nothing more then to have them in my arms for as long as possible. I covered them up and walked into bathroom. I heard Jimmy covering Aidyn up as I washed my face and put on my glasses. My vision was starting to get blurry since I was so tired. I walked out of the bathroom to see that Jimmy was changing his clothes. He smiled at me before holding his arms out. I smiled and walked into his arms, feeling the greatest comfort in the world just by the touch of his skin. His arms were wrapped tightly around me for a few minutes before he leaned back to kiss me. I kissed back before pulling away and going to the other side of the bed, getting under the covers and pulling Vicki into my arms more. Jimmy did the same, pulling Aidyn into this chest and moving so he was laying closer to us. The last thing I remember was Jimmy’s arm sneaking under me and pulling me and Vicki closer.
