A Promise Never Forgotten

I Can't Just Wait For You

William’s POV

I woke up in my room feeling empty.

Harmony was the reason I woke up in the morning, she was everything.

With her gone, I couldn't help feeling she took me with her.

Walking downstairs my mother was there smiling as I just took a seat and didn’t look back up.

“Honey, why don’t you hang out with you friends today, meet some new people at the park?”

My mom just kept bugging me about going out, so I did.

I walked over to Jason’s house and knocked on the door. There opening the door was his little brother, Adam. I never really talked to him before and since he opened the door I thought maybe this was a good time to start.

“Hey there Adam,” I said smiling. He nodded at me and let me in.

“Jason isn’t home yet so you can just hang out anywhere,” Adam said.

I walked up the stairs to where Adam and Jason’s room were and noticed a room I had never seen before, “Dude is this your room?”

Adam turned to me and nodded.

I went inside and looked at all the posters and cd’s scattered everywhere, “You’ve got some awesome taste, man.”

“You like Led?”

I nodded, “There one of my favorite bands.”

He looked shocked and we started talking more about music. I really liked talking to another person about music, now that Harmony wasn’t here I had no one to talk about it with.

“Hey I’m home,” Jason called from downstairs.

Adam and I went downstairs and greeted Jason.

Afterwards we played some video games and watched a movie.

I had to admit, I was glad to go out, it really made me feel more at ease.

More alive again.

I put on my jacket and walked outside, “Thanks guys, I had a great time.”

With that I waved and went to the park.

I heard loud drumming sounds and saw Andy.

The guy was a born drummer, he should really be a drummer one day.

I walked over to Andy and tapped him on the shoulder, “Hey Andy.”

He turned around and showed me his goofy grin, “Bilvy!”

I laughed and talked to him for a bit, then went near the baseball field and the small playground Harmony and I use to always go too.

“Watch out!”

A baseball hit me right on the head and a girl with blonde hair came running to me.

I took the ball from the ground and my other hand rubbed the back of my head, “Here.”

She smiled and took the ball from me, “Thanks and so, so, so, so sorry about that.”

She had blue eyes that many people would find amazing, but I found just plain.

Pretty and tall, with shiny blonde hair.

Still, I couldn’t help but think she wasn’t anything like Harmony.

This girl certainly shined, but not the way Harmz did, she could just bright up a room.

Harmony actually always was the party.

Smiling, I looked at the girl again, “Hey, I’m William.”

She blushed slightly and smiled, “Christine.”

I nodded, “So you like playing baseball?”

Her smiled grew wider and I couldn’t help but smile wider myself, she was pretty, “Yes I love baseball!”

“I do too. I’m actually in a team at my middle school.”

Her eyes widened, “Wow that’s awesome, wait your name is William Beckett?”

I nodded again, “Yeah, how do you know my last name?”

She just looked at me shocked, “Of course I know you, your like the star player of my school. We go to the same middle school.”

I blushed from embarrassment because I didn’t even remember seeing this girl before, I wasn’t lying to Harmz when I said I didn’t see other girls but just her.

A few hours later we were still talking and I had to admit I was already liking this girl.

She wasn’t Harmony, but she was smart, beautiful, loved baseball, and she had a smile that just couldn’t stop being contagious.

She had this msile that just really lit up her whole face and showed in her eyes.

Christine was the kind of girl guys would stop and stare at, but Harmony was the kind of girl that had guys dropping to their knees.

As much as I was starting to like Christine, I just kept comparing her to Harmony constantly.
My phone started ringing and I picked it up,” Hello?”

My mom had called me, “Hey William I just came home and Harmony left a message.”

My heart beat raced, “U-um okay I’ll be in a second.”

Christine looked over to me with a skeptical look on her face as I got up,"Sorry Christine I’ll see you at school.”

When I said that I had already been running out of the park, just letting my mind be filled with Harmony.

In just a few minutes I had made it home faster than ever.

Since I had gone inside, I ignored everyone and ran into my room instantly calling her back.

Finally she answered and I heard her speak emotionless, “Hello.”

I couldn’t help but laugh.

“W-William, “ she asked surprised.

“Yeah, hey Magz,” I answered.

She sounded much better, “Wow I didn’t expect you to call so fast, I just left the message,”

“Yeah my mom called me over on my huge cell and told me and then I came sprinting over here. “

She was silent for awhile as I waited to hear her voice again.

“I m-miss y-you, “ she said whimpering.

I paused and tried not to cry.

“Yeah, I miss you too, “ I whispered so softly.

“Sorry I’m getting all emotional, so tell me about your day, “ she had said trying to act cheery.

“I just went to Jason’s house and hanged out a little with his brother, Adam, who is just so awesome, and I saw Andy at the park drumming on everything in sight.”

“I also met this really nice girl at the park, her name is Christine.”

I smiled thinking back at the awesome time I had in the park with Christine, but more at the thought of actually talking to the one girl who made my heart race and had me wrapped around her finger.

“Oh r-really, what is she like?”

“She’s amazing, she has blonde hair and blue eyes, super sweet, and she also likes baseball,” I said.

Harmony sighed, “W-William there’s something I need to tell you.”

I stopped talking so she could continue.

“I l-like you.”

I didn’t know what to do.

At first I was so happy I couldn’t even explain the feeling, but then I remembered she was telling me this on a phone somewhere thousands of miles away in New Jersey.

“Y-you do, “ I asked me nervously.

“Ever since the day I bumped into you,” she whispered.

All these years she had liked me and now she tells me.

I just couldn’t understand that and just hanged up, hurt.

How can she tell me now?

Out of all the time we spent together, and she confesses to me on a phone too?

This was my sign, a sign that I should just move on. Harmony was probably never coming back anyway, and she would gradually get over me. She was so amazing, any guy would want her.

So everything was done.
