Cause I'm Five Minutes Older

Leila and Learning

Thinking it through I pulled out the name Leila. It was random, but I liked it. I pulled my phone out to text David.
Abbi (12:18pm)
Want to walk with me before run through?
I got on the elevator and pushed for the fourth floor.
Dave (12:19pm)
Sure. Nothing better to do, but be with you.
I laughed as the door opened. I started down the hall.
Abbi (12:20pm)
Aw. Thanks. So meet me in ten minutes outside your room.
Dave (12:20pm)
Ok, I will.
Abbi (12:21pm)
Okie Poky.
I found some clothes to change into and stepped into my bathroom to change. Then put on the clothes I had just selected. I did my make-up lightly and fixed my hair. I return to my bedroom to find Leila staring at the window. I got down on the floor.
“Leila!” She sat there with no response. “Leila, here girl!” She looked at me as soon as she figure out that I might be talking to her. “Come on Leila!” She trotted over to me. I held her in my arms standing up. I grabbed my phone and went to the door. I opened the door and Dave was standing there about to knock.
“Abbi, your…” He trailed off.
“Adorable?” I asked.
“Honey, I believe the term is stunning!” He answered. I blushed and closed the door behind me. He noticed the tiny dog in my arms. “Who’s this?”
“Meet Leila. My late birthday present.” He smiled and petted her head. She barked quietly. I laughed. “We should get going if we want to make it out of the hotel before run through.” He laced his fingers with mine. We headed for the nearest elevator. He pushed the button to go down with his free hand.
“We should get her a leash while we’re out.” He said. I nodded. I laid my head on his shoulder.
“I’m so glad I was offered this part. We can be together.”
“Did they show you the script yet?” He asked as the doors opened. He put sunglasses on. Mine where already on. We stepped out facing the press’s questions. Which where ignored. We paraded through the crowd in a hurry. Outside the hotel we walked toward a pet store a block away.
“No they haven’t. I don’t even know the name of my character.” I replied. He laughed.
“It’s Kayla Grasim. You are a wizard sent to the Russo’s so you can get proper wizard schooling after being ban from the wizard schools.” He explained.
“I sound bad.” I laughed.
“You were framed, though. You and Alex become good friends after a while. Justin has this huge crush on you. Max tells Alex about it. Alex sets us up on a date. Your so shy it’s not funny.”
“Well I guess Justin should have a crush on me.” I smiled. He pulled my hand up and kissed the back of it. I giggled as we walked in to the pet store. We scanned around for dog collars and leashes. I spotted some and lead the way to the aisle. I looked at each of them. Trying to find the perfect one for Leila. It was one that stood out. I picked it up. David held Leila for me. I put my sunglasses on my head. It is the prettiest dog collar I've ever seen. I turned around and found a leash to go with it. I was excited. I picked out a few other things Leila might need. I had them in a basket. David was over on the far side making a dog tag. He was talking to Leila quietly. I skipped up behind him. I watched and played with the dog tag around my neck no one other than my family knew I had. He turned around and saw it.
“What’s that?” He asked.
“My dog tag.” I stated. I held it up to him. He took it into his free hand and I stepped closer to him.
“Abigail Brianne Jonas. What’s that little symbol?”
“It’s a medical symbol.” He looked over the rest of the tag. The last word caught him. Diabetes.
“So you have it too? Like Nick.” He asked. I nodded as the answer.
“Yep. We got diabetes at the same time. Mom was devastated.” He pulled me into a hug.
“I’m glad I know now.” He let me go and I walked to the cash register and handed the guy the things to scan. He did and I handed him the credit card mom had given me when the family left New Jersey. Back then it was only used for emergencies, but now they said it’s for me to use for anything I need. He handed me the bags and my card. David came over with Leila and took some of the bags. I pulled Leila’s collar from one of my bags and put it on her carefully. I attached the leash and Dave set her on the ground. Then took one of my hands. We walked out of the store and headed towards the hotel. Leila seemed pretty calm and tame.
“So I was thinking after run through we can go out for dinner. Just you and me.” David suggested. I smiled.
“That be great.” I replied. Leila barked at a man with a camera. He shot a picture of us. We just kept on walking.
