What Happens Under The Sun

I had heard that it was going to cool down considerably over night, but when I woke up, even though I was only under a sheet, I was warmer than ever.

I felt his arms around me and I could feel Tom's body intertwined with mine, explaining the warmth. I was cuddled against him and could hear him breathing slowly, he was still asleep.

Even though consciously, I had been blocking anything affectionate to do with Tom, my unconscious mind had a different plan. Consciously I was afraid to get hurt, unconsciously I needed someone to love me.

As I lay there, listening to his breath, I started to accept what I tried to deny. I was afraid to get hurt again, afraid to be let down again, afraid to fall in love. Here was this perfectly good guy, good looking, persistent, great in bed, and I was blocking him out. I couldn't believe my own stupidity.

But even so, I was still on some level afraid to let my guard down completely. In actuality I knew next to nothing about Tom. I didn't know where he was from, what he did to be enough of a 'somebody' to be here, or if he was even single.

I decided then that I wanted to know more about him, what he liked, what he didn't like, innocent things like that. I found though that I was virtually without care as to who he was, what made him a 'somebody'. I wanted to know him, not who he was.

''Hey.'' A groggy voice interrupted my train of thought.

''Hey.'' I replied, looking up at him. He leaned over and looked at the clock.

''Lunchtime.'' He said lightly. I moved up so that I was on the same pillow as him, our faces an inch apart.

Tom flicked his lip ring with his tongue as we stared at each other in silence. I closed the gap between us, pressing out lips together and ran my tongue along his bottom lip. We engaged in an innocent French kiss for a few minutes before I pulled away.

''Hungry?'' I asked when his stomach growled.

''Kind of.'' He replied. I raised one hand to his chest and fixed my eyes on my index finger as I traced aimlessly on his skin.

''I'll go if you want.'' I said, not looking from my finger.

''No, stay, just for a while.'' He said, closing one of his hands over mine. I looked at his face. He looked almost embarrassed that he'd asked me to stay, but at the same time like he really wanted me to.

''I guess I can.'' I said playfully and he smiled.

He let go of the hand I had on his chest so that he could put his hand on my lower back. He pulled me towards him and lightly kissed my neck, just once. It was the kind of thing that half of me wanted to shy away from but the other more daring half embraced.

I moved the hand I had on his chest to his cheek and lightly stroked his temple. His skin was so soft. He stared into my eyes as I focused on my finger. I wondered what he saw there but said nothing. This silence was too perfect to break.

He leaned forward and kissed me deeply but with no intention of taking it further than that. it went on for a few minutes before he pulled away.

We lay in silence for a countless amount of time, simply looking at each other and exchanging innocent kisses and touches. We were getting to know each other on the silent level that I had been afraid of not ten hours ago.

But all things good and innocent must come to and end and this one did when Tom's stomach growled loudly for the second time. He looked slightly embarrassed and I giggled lightly.

''I should go, we're both hungry.'' I said, moving back from him. He looked like he wanted to argue but knew he couldn't deny the truth.

I got up and put yesterday's clothes on –after a bit of searching- and he watched me in silence. As I pulled my dress on, Tom got up and put his boxers on before coming to help me with the zipper. He lightly kissed the back of my neck when he finished. I turned to him and he brushed a stray piece of hair behind my ear.

''I'll see you later.'' I said and then turned towards the door.

''Katie?'' Tom said and I stopped and turned towards him. I hated being called Katie, but coming from him, it sounded to perfect to correct.

''Vergessen sie nicht zurückzukommen.'' He said and I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion he looked torn and then sighed almost inaudibly.

''I'll see you later.'' He said and I smiled before leaving.

*~Tom's Point of View~*

''Katie?'' I said and she turned around.

''Don't forget to come back.'' I said and she looked confused. I hadn't said it in English, but maybe it was because I didn't really want her to know what I had said.

''I'll see you later.'' I said and she smiled and then left.

I sighed as she closed the door and sat on the edge of the bed with one thought on my mind. Was Bill right?

The other day Bill had said that I liked her on more than just a physical level and I had denied it profusely. But now I was starting to wonder. The whole time we spent together this morning, we barely said twenty words between us, but while we were lying there in silence, it didn't feel like anything needed to be said. Everything was said in the way we moved, the way we touched, the way we kissed.

As I debated this matter, the knock I had come to expect came from my door. I went and let Bill in.

''So?'' he said, sitting on the couch.

''So what?'' I asked.

''She certainly wore you out last night if you slept this late.'' Bill stated.

''We woke up at twelve.'' I told him

''It's one-thirty.'' He said with a raised eyebrow.

''I know.''

''What were you doing all that time?'' he asked and I shrugged.

''Talking?'' I shook my head.

''Fucking?'' I shook my head again.

''Then what?'' he asked.

''Nothing.'' I told him honestly.

''You like her.'' It was a statement not a question. I didn't deny it, but I didn't confirm it either.

''You do?'' now he was asking.

''I don't know, I like to be with her, if that's what you're asking.'' I said. There was no other way to explain how I felt.

''I don't even know the first thing about her!'' I added.

''So maybe you should find out.'' He said, getting up. why was it that he always sounded right? It was starting to annoy me.

''Come on, let's go for breakfast.''
