Messed Up Youthful Innocence

Like Father, Like Son

(Andy's POV)

I watched Drew slink from the back staircase and through the kitchen. Apparently he did not understand grounded for two weeks meant two weeks not six days. I followed him and watching him look towards the front door and dining room making sure Chrissy wasn’t there. I saw his car keys in his hand as he reached for the back door.

“Drew”

He jumped back and looked around looking for me.

“Car keys” I said.

He sighed and rolled his eyes before crossing the room and handing them to me.

“This isn’t fair.” he whined.

“How is it not fair? You did something stupid and got punished for it.”

“So?”

“Where exactly where you going to go anyways?”

“Visit Petey”

“You do realize he’s still grounded too right?”

The look I got from Drew was one I know I made all the time.

“Yes, I know, I’m not dumb.”

“I know you aren’t. You just have to think before you do things like sneak out of the house
when we’re both home.”

“Are you telling me you never snuck out of the house to go see Pete when you were 16? Or mom?”

I thought for a second. We mostly snuck each other into houses.

“No we didn’t when I was grounded I had to resort to calling people instead of going out.”

“How come I got punished for doing something you and Pete did when you were younger?”

“You replicated it. You’re supposed to learn from my mistakes. Not make the same ones.” I
said sitting on the top of the kitchen counter.

“But you’re not getting punished.”

“That’s what you think.”

He stopped and stared at me.

“Ew”

“My punishment is watching you like a hawk. I really think you should stop making things
hard on yourself Drew.”

“This sucks.”

“Trust me I know”

“ANDREW JOHN HURLEY” I heard Chrissy scream. I looked over at drew. “JUNIOR”

“Ha! You’re in trouble” I teased.

I heard Chrissy coming down the back staircase. When she appeared at the landing she looked at me. Her eyes then slid to Drew who was standing three feet away from me. I held
up his car keys.

“Trying to sneak out?” she asked.

“I seriously want to know how you can sense me doing something wrong.” he mumbled.

“You are exactly like your father. I know the situations he would try and do something wrong
and you do the same things Drew. Also I made you, I can sense when you’re doing something stupid.” she said in her most motherly tone.

Drew looked like he was about to mouth off to Chrissy but thought better of it.

“I’ll be in my room” he said storming up the stairs and slamming his door when he got to
his room.

“How did you find him?” she asked.

“Saw him slink down through the kitchen when I was in the dining room and followed him.”

“Ahh. What was he trying to do?”

“Meet up with Petey apparently.”
“He is so your son”

“I know. He asked if I had ever snuck out to meet with Pete or you.”

“You didn’t. We snuck in to see you.”

“Yeah. I loved that clause. “Andy you can’t go out” but they never said my friends can’t sneak in through the backdoor and window.”

She smiled and kissed me as I wrapped my arms around her waist.
