When offering construcive criticism, make it cosntrucive and helpful but avoid being petty. A better way to guide this writer may have been " Be mindful of overusing words and phrases" rather than " but the annoying use of "shall".
I'm fine with how I responded, thanks. I find using poignant words gets the point across just as well. And sorry, but I don't feel I was being "petty."
To be fair, it was one word in an entire comment ("annoying", how shocking) that everyone seems to be using as proof of an apparently negative tone of the whole comment. Very weird, because, um, I think I wrote it, and um, actually I wasn't being negative.
Rude is rude. I was not rude, nor petty, but now the leap to assumptions and misguided suggestions for bettering my absolutely fine comment are annoying me. Be a little more thick-skinned. "Annoying" is not an attack, nor is it a part of a rude or scathing review. It was an opinion, like anything else, and because of it being a little more "out there" (except not really) it's probably something one would pay attention to more so than a sugar-coated "Be mindful" type suggestion.
Is everyone done being up in arms over the word "annoying" now?
