This is definitely good advice for some recipes, and just any recipe where you're not familiar with it, but I will say that some dry ingredients can be fiddled with in order to obtain different results. Chocolate chip cookies in particular you can put more flour in if you want a more substantial cookie. Vanilla is another ingredient where in a chocolate chip cookie you can go above what the recipe asks for. Eyeballing it for the right texture and/or flavor can go really well if you've worked with the recipe and experimented a bit. With the example recipe, I learned it from my mom and so therefor I've never used the recipe suggested amount of flour or vanilla pretty much ever.

So basically, while measurements are very important, especially with some ingredients (like baking powder, baking soda and salt), others can be fiddled with. I'd also just flat out always suggest that people taste what they're cooking or baking. If your cookie dough in particular doesn't taste good, then the chances of your cookie tasting good are pretty slim.

Also, that conversion plug-in is absolutely delightful.

I needed this so much. Thank you for writing this. I've always had trouble with baking measurements because they're so different from wet measurements. I'm going to recommend this for future reference.

    This. Is. So. Handy.
Particularly the conversions plug-in you added. I hate having to google it all the time if I don't have the exact spoon or cup they're calling for. This is so helpful and I'm going to add this to my bookmarks so I can find it always.
