    Her husband owned slaves:

    http://books.google.com/books?id=Kzq5LRotSTkC&pg=PA126&lpg=PA126&dq=betsy+ross+had+slaves&source=bl&ots=Zy0NB7ZIS_&sig=OUr0RbMd_0oQZzm-OsX2oNhNu34&hl=en&sa=X&ei=EMkBUvGZGdGQyQG2mIG4CA&ved=0CGUQ6AEwCA#v=onepage&q=betsy%20ross%20had%20slaves&f=false

There is no historical proof that says Betsy ever talked with Washington about the flag. There is no documentation in the Library of Congress to suggest they ever met and talked.

It is also fact that most White Europeans did not have the necessary skills to create a sophisticated pieces, such as flags. This is the history of European weaving and the demands and resources of the British Colonies/soon to be US.

In all honesty, .com vs .org doesn't really matter. Perhaps to a high school teacher, but the real questions have to be what is reliable even mean and who is giving us information? Who is defining and limiting and providing information and articles based off them? If you want resources for American history, don't go looking in American books -- this is a good rule of thumb for all nations.

I didn't find any reliable sources talking about how they had slaves, that is why I didn't add it in.

I would then imagine that you would revise this article to add her use of slave labor and how even the purest American legacy has stains on it.

She can design it for days, but if we ignore that African slaves physically created it, then we slowly let it be okay that all African labor, slave to this day, is not worth credit.

The websites that I got my information was from .org websites and sites from the American library sources. One thing about .com sites is that the information can be written by anyone. I don't doubt that the slaves helped create the flag, but Betsy Ross is known for designing and creating it, according to many government sites, so that's what I based my article on.

Betsy Ross/her husband had slaves who were skilled in weaving.

It is most likely that the slaves did at least, if not all, the majority of creating the first American flag.

    Here's a good first step: http://truthfirstnow.blogspot.com/2006/09/white-lies-behind-american-flag.html
