Open Happiness has got it right. I did a report on Paramore. =D
But it is so true about band names! Some people want their name to sound cool, and others want them to have meaning. But anyway, "The Beatles" is not really a common name. They are BUGS for gosh sakes! I am part of a band, and we like to call ourselves "Echo". I think that the most memoriable bands pick a dictionary of a shelf and ruffle through the pages until they find a word that catches their eyes. That's what makes some bands unique.

Xantii- Paramore are most probably named after the word "Paramour" which means an illicit lover (and yes I'm using a dictionary, hehe.). I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that they were named after that, changed it to Para'more'. I don't know if this is the American spelling or they were aiming for like, "Paramour, but 'more' so" xD

LOL, I didn't even notice the ! in the title, until I saw someone point it out. x]
Some band names are weird. I just accept it & move on, though. Because I don't really care about their name, as long as their music's good.
I mean, 3OH!3? I know it has some meaning, but I don't really care. ;D

i always found soem band names weird! Like 'Evanescence' or 'Linkin Park', what about 'KoRn' or... 'Limp Bizkit.' I laugh at those band names, even though I like their music. 'Paramore'? I don't really know the meaning of that one, but just reading it like any other word is really weird.

Here comes the weirdest for me... 'My Chemical Romance' and 'Mindless Self Indulgence.' though, I like that one. MCR's name makes no sense, but maybe it's just that way because I never took time to research about them. Either way, those names are weird.

I personally can't find it hard anymore to come up with names.

Sure, very... almost terrible, if I may, the name is not the biggest thing on the list... if it is, the world surely is ending.

The Beatles is quite a clever name.
My music teacher told me that they came up with the name from the word 'Beat' as in music, and incorperated it with beetles. So yah xD.

It's almost like there are several 'trends' or 'themes' in band names.

There are some really weird one's about, like 'The Testicles' or something, I mean WTF?! XD.

Interesting article too, I enjoyed it (:.

And your use of the ! in the title made me chuckle XD.

Also, you left out 36 Crazyfists, Mindless Self Indulgence (ick), and many many more. I figured 36CF would be one of the first ones up there.

Before they became internationally known, Bullet for my Valentine was known by the name "12 Pints of my Girlfriend's Blood". This article caught my attention just over that fact =) Thank you for pointing out the awkward titles of our modern rock society.

Band names are getting weirder. But I hardly think about it. One of my favourite bands at the moment is Ice Nine Kills. I mean, what is that?! It hardly makes any sense. But I didn't even think about it until a couple days ago my friend was like 'dude..whats that even mean?'. But, why care? All that matters in the music.

Also, whoever down there said that The Pink Spiders and Mindless Self Indulgence are ridiculous names? You fail at life. I love those guys. (lol)

But really, don't make such a big deal about something as little as the band names. People need to remember the amazing music behind them. Besides, isn't this why they used those ridiculous names? Didn't they add punctuation and confusing things so they would be recognized? Are you ever going to forget the term 'Pink Spiders' now? =)

And the point of this article was...? To restate what many already know and have said? I am getting tired of hearing 'The' in front of everything. I'm also tired of hearing depressing-type names on stupid Pop bands nowadays. There are so many of these labeled 'emo' band names that it makes me sick. Come up with a band name that will make someone go, "I wish I'd have thought of that!" Geez.

    To beanie:

There are plenty of punk bands who don't have a "possessive" name. Minor Threat, DOA, SSD, AFI, Son of Sam, Sublime, Juvenile Assassins, Nekromantix, Tiger Army, Danzig, Resurex, Zombie Ghost Train and so on and so forth.

I think Ska bands have some of the strangest names ever...

And you didn't include "!!!" in the part about punctuation in a name!
    Bah.
