dance is a sport, i agree with you there.
but while you're trying to distinguish your sport as such, you might have put off a lot of other athletes eg; rythmic gymnasts? everyone will want to defend their sport/hobby ect in the way you have, which is basically kd of ranting.
i play the cello and everytime the ditzy cow at the back of the class says, "thats like, a giant violin right?" my fingernails curl. so i do know where you're coming from!
just maybe not to backhand other sports when defending your own okay?
:D

Dance is def. a sport. I mean, cheerleading is, and cheerleading is basically dancing while speaking. My friends is dance put in just as much work as the football team does, maybe more.

It bugs me insanely when people say that dance isn't a sport! I've danced literally every form of dance (well, besides like... strip/pole dancing and such...) since I was two. Ever since I could walk, I was dancing in an actual class.
It's competitive. It's hard work. It's painful. But, it's worth it because it's fun and it is an art form and it turns out really well if you pursue it.
I love dance and it's a SPORT that I'll pursue for the rest of my life =]

Okay I do think dancing is a sport but you made it sound like ice hockey's easy. I'm here to tell you IT'S NOT. Just because we only have on ice practice five hours a week doesn't mean we don't do a ton of off ice. While not every can dance competitively it's the same for hockey. And you many think it's easy to shoot a puck then you haven't done it that often. Now I understand you want to defend your sport but please don't down play other sports, you should be able to make your point with out dissing something else.

Yay! Dance is so a sport. I actually just came from dance team practice and, although it isn't as intense as my dance class, I dare anyone to tell me it isn't a sport. And what I have to say to them is: try it for a day (or smell me right now) and then you can talk.

It's a sport... kind of.

I think dance becomes more of a sport when you compete, like eisteddfods, competitions, etc. Otherwise it's more of an activity... I suppose.

But just because not everyone labels it as a sport doesn't demean it in any way. It's really good physical exercise and that's what counts right?

Well, I view sports as a physical activity that involves playing a game, like soccer or volleyball. Sure, dance involves competition and great physical activity, but it lacks that one requirement.

I think Dance is sport! :D This was a fabulous article. ^^ There are plenty of sports that people don't think are really sports. Just like WaterQueen07 said, this is mainly from ignorance. :)

This was a great article. Not only that, but i totally agree with you. People have told me that horseback riding is not a sport due to ignorance also.
