hey great article. however I'll just point out that heroin did not cause Jimi Hendrix's death. He actually rarely took heroin. he died from inhaling his own vomit due to barbiturate Intoxication from taking a heavy dose of Vesperax and a bottle of red wine.
but I only picked up on that because I have a slight obsession with him lol. but yeah awesome article, many good points. *thumbs up*
and for the other people commenting about speed and ecstasy are not the same thing. they are two very different drugs.
I don't know why anyone so misinformed about a drug would even attempt to write an article on it. Heroin is not used for the 'glamor' or because 'role models' are using it; Heroin is the ultimate form of pain-relief and escapism. To understand what makes people use it, its probably quite important to understand the effect it generates. Heroin is a highly refined form of opium and is generally manufactured by the further refinement of Morphine (which is itself made from opium). Like all opioid's, Heroin reduces pain and was originally invented as an anesthetic but, unlike it's predecessor's, H is so strong it wipes out nearly all conscious thought. Users have described the feeling as 'like a sort of living death', in other words, the complete absence of thought and therefore, pain. Amphetamines, dope, E and hallucinogens like LSD and Mushrooms cause a 'High' followed by a come down which is often unpleasant. Heroin on the other hand, induces a rush of 'absence' followed by mental and emotional clarity which gradually decreases. It's not taken to get 'high' and have a good time, generally it's taken to escape from the world.
The extreme addiction is both chemical and emotional; chemical because Heroin takes over the role of the bodies natural endorphines which causes the body to stop producing them, leading to horrific withdrawal symptoms where all the comfort our brain usually provides is stripped away; and emotional because users often shoot up to escape from their lives and so this becomes their only method of dealing with problems.
A more minor issue is the way you refer to The Velvet Underground song. It is not, as you suggest, about the positive effects of Heroin, but rather about the lead singers personal experience with the drug. If you'd ever heard the song, you'd realise it's actually quite prominently anti-heroin and describes the same reasons i've listed above.
i knew a girl who did heroin.
got knocked up when she was ten and got an abortion.
got knocked up again when she was thirteen and i don't know where she is now.
her freaking veins collapsed and hid away so she takes it in her hands now.
my brother took heroin too.
heroin=most addictive drug.
seriously, and it just fucks you up soo sooo terribly.
sigh.
my uncle and aunt were heroin users.
my aunt died a couple of months ago. se had a stroke at 35 from the drugs and then complications from that killed her.
I'd never do heroin, main reason is that I'm deadly afraid of needles (:
and honestly, I don't understand how anyone could ever go that far, just to have fun or whatever, it's quite pathetic. I only a few hours ago, read an article about drugs for English, it was about a boy who did it because it kept him going...
I think it's quite pathetic that you need drugs to have fun, oh well, their choice (:
Kurt took heroin, not speed, and, unfortunately, it was one of the causes that
brought his life to an end, the other main cause was Courtney Love, but anywa
, i'm pretty sure he didn't get addicted to speed, though he may have tried it.
I've taken speed, crystal, heroine, among other drugs
and it's not as glammed up as it seems to be
after a while, i started to feel sluggish
the high I seemed to get on a small dosage
just wasn't enough anymore
soon I upgrated to cocaine
became addicted and it nearly ruined my life
I was a drug addict when I was 15
and I'm only 16...
you also forgot Nikki Sixx who also overdosed on herion but he was lucky that he got help fast enough. But anyways that is very true, the only real possible way to know why someone uses is just to ask and not pass judgement at all.
but I only picked up on that because I have a slight obsession with him lol. but yeah awesome article, many good points. *thumbs up*
