the thing is you shouldn't leave your dog in a car at all on a hot summers day! fair enough if its warm and you leave all the windows down and put the air con. on, but i wouldn't even risk that on a hot summers day :O
i was watching an animal cops show, and i've seen a dog die in a car because they couldn't get to it in time :(
very sad, and it can be avoided

comment about the purple tongue thing: you need to tell your vet that you've left your dog in a car in the heat or note that their tongue has not always been purple if the vet you take them to isn't your usual one. seems obvious, yes, but a friend of mine has a dog that's part chow and her boyfriend left him in the car one day and he got overheated. when she took him to the vet she told him his mix and the vet tried to assure her that the dog's tongue was supposed to be purple even though it never had been before.

I feel dumb playing captin obvious, but still. xP

Odd timing for me to find this article. Last Friday it was about 38 degrees (celcius) out and while my mom and I were shopping there was an announcement for someone to get to their car immediately. When we went to load up the van it turned out that the people behind us had left their dog in the car. Then they tried to give the policeman all sorts of excuses, like "he has water", "the air conditioning is on" (the car wasn't even on) and "we weren't even in there half an hour". Now what would they have said if their dog had died? They would've found someone else to blame for some reason or other, of course. Heaven forbid they admit they made a mistake and accept the consequences.

What really got me was not only the excuses but the fact that it was a family of four or five people and not one of them could've stayed with the dog?

Anyway, great article. I completely agree with it.

    Agree.
Though why are they smashing the window with the pet in it? Thats going harm the animal further. Don't they have tools that can OPEN a car door?

This is a great article. Now everyone knows the danger of pets in a parked car.
    Kudos for you!

This is a great article and I agree with everything you said. It's not like animals can just get up, open the door, and go out for a stroll if the car gets too hot. They're helpless, and by taking in an animal, the owner also takes on the responsibility of providing a safe environment for it, and the back of a car on a ninety-degree day is NOT a safe environment.

I'm glad to see someone else on Mibba considers this a huge problem as well.

GOod article, I always see dogs etc... In their cars, but it shouldn't matter if it's a summer days, they shouldn't be left in cars anyways...
Awesome article though, finally we're getting more animal lovers on this site...

I hate when people leave pets in the cars. My Aunt (who's in peta) confronts the people when they come back to the cars. :tehe:
