life sentence is not needed. if a student and teacher want to be together then let it happen. sure if it was a 29 year old man or woman and a 13 year old girl or boy then ok its not right but 16? come on ppl shes alomost an adult at that age! ive dated a 16 year old befor i no its not illegal but its a big gap and some ppl didnt like it but hey its life!

life sentence is too much. this isnt that "horrible" as you would think. of course with the whole.... sexual stuff is quite disturbing. but i mean, if the student wanted to be with the teacher then i dont see the problem. i mean im dating a 16 year old, and im 13, people find that weird, but whatever. even though 16 year olds dating 13 year olds, arent illegal, but still. ugh whatever.

She looks creepy. And that's just...disturbing. But a life sentence does seem harsh.
I'm ashamed to share the name Amanda with this lady. Ugh. -shudders-
Amanda's are happy people, not freaks! (Tee-hee)

Haahaa I agree, she looks really creepy.

I find the life sentence quite harsh; but as a teacher she should have known ALOT better. The poor girl was going though an eating disorder. She was sad, scared and lonely. This teacher should not have taken advantage of this situation.

As a witness to this case I CAN ASURE you that Amanda Thompson is getting exactly what she deserves! I was an assistant teacher at that school and my 2 children whent there, my daughter was in the same maths class as the girl and was her best friend, so tou see we do know what was happening, Thompson should get the max penalty, as for jude fox the principal SHE knew what was going on and did nothing. She said it was only gossip! Crap it was, Remember we send our kids to school to get a education not to get molesterd!

I agreed that the life sentence is harsh but that's the maximum penalty for her crime. Not the minimum. She most likely will not get that I assure you.
I personally think she may have manipulated the student in her vulnerable state. But who am I to judge? We'll never know until she admits her reasons. It's just prone to speculation now.

    Agreed. Life sentence is harsh.
And the student had a choice: take it or leave it.
And she obviously chose to take it for a while.
It's not completely anyone's fault. It's a little of everyone's fault. The teacher for doing it to a student, the student for taking it, the student colleagues who never actually said anything until now.... all of this plays a role.
I bet there's a lot more to this story that we don't know.
I'd like to keep following this story though. Very interesting...

I don't think it should be life, but nonetheless what she did was abuse.
    Evil lady.

well, I think people find it weirder because it's a woman and a girl. A male teacher and a girl would be a classic, wouldn't it?
and I think life imprisonment is too much too. yes it's bad, it's practically paedophilia, but not to that extent.

Honestly, I think it's both of their choices to do this. If the student didn't have a problem with it, why should this be a huge deal? I mea yes the student shouldn't be favored in class, but otherwise, so what?
I think these things are taken too seriously

I don't think that what she did is a terrible crime... illegal, yes, and she shouldn't teach again... but life imprisonment? God no.

It doesn't sound sick, it just seems to me like a blurring of the lines which cannot occur in a professional environment such as teaching. But for goodness sake, it's far from evil... or at least, that's not how I see it.

It may be sick and wrong, but the student had to play a part in this, I mean, I wouldn't sit there and take it.

    She must have wanted something.
