Who the heck would sign a professional document with <3 anyway? It would be inappropriate in a working environment, but banning it seems a bit over the line. Does this mean we have to actually say "less than three" too?
Have you heard about the Russian businessman who wants to get a patent on the emoticon ":)" and how he would have people buying licenses for using it? And everyone who would use it without paying for it first would be punished, because you simply don't have the right to do it.
The best part is that it's patent pending, meaning he is actually allowed to do that. Go figure.
I understand how you should not use slang in a business environment. I also realize that there are actually people out there rediculous enough to use such things.
It just seems funny: "You are banned from telling your secretary to get a life!" HaHaHa =)
If it was normal life there would be a problem but its business. If i was a CEO or something and i would see <3 then i would be 'I hired a twelve year old what was i thinking' they need to be serious and not do something immature like text talk on a document. If they need to write heart or love then write the whole word out . Thank god they banned it .I'm all for it .
...Well, I guess that means that I'll have to spell out "less than three".
No, really, though. It's all reasonable. You'll never be taken seriously (especially in the business world) if you have a smiley face and a heart after evert sentence. ;]
To ban something like "<3" being put onto something such as a necklace does not make sense to me at all.
I agree with "La Princess Muerta", if you were to sign a legal document with a "<3" you would look rather stupid.
I do like your article, but it would be interesting to know what other words/phrases/things were submitted and accepted or denied.
Good work.
=)
I think it's kind of strict to ban things from necklaces and other merchandise. If you like something like the heart thing, then normally you tend to like things with it on it, such as necklaces. They shouldn't ban petty things.
