100 is getting a little extravegant, if someone is writting that much I think they need to make the chapters longer, not more chapters. If I saw a story that had that many chapters it would put me off a little.

It truly depends on the story. If it's a good plot and that many chapters are necessary to tell the story then, by all means, write that many chapters. But if it drags on or becomes boring or pointless then it should just be ended. Personally, I prefer when a story is a little bit longer, usually twenty to forty chapters, becuase it's kind of depressing when a story you really love is over too quickly. Then again, the point made earlier, if it doesn't take twenty chapters to tell the story then don't make the story twenty chapters long.

but If it starts to drag and get boring I think its better to end it

Quality not quantity. Sometimes I prefer the one shots. The longest story I have read here was somewhere along 40, but then I stopped cause it got boring.

It really does depend.
How long are the chapters? A few paragraphs? A few sentences? If so, most people wouldn't mind a lot of chapters.
If the chapters are huge in length most people don't like a dragging story into triple digit chapters.

If a story dragged on I'd stop when I started to get bored. Just because a story is good doesn't mean it need hundreds of chapters. Most of the time, those chapters don't add anything to the plot. It's just a waste.

Of course, there's people on here that just want hundreds of chapters of useless sex. Sometimes I wonder what some people really want out of a story - a good plot or people they fantasize about.

I couldn't handle 100 chapters, it really depends on the story. If I get hooked to a story, and something is happening in all these chapters then I ll read it. If it's absolute drabble, I ll stop reading before the third chapter.

20 to 30 chapters is perfect for me.
sometimes i just dont have the attention span for 200 chapters
