okay i swear we are living the same life.
basically the same exact thing happened to me a few weeks ago haha

i totallyyyyyy get the whole not understanding why he likes you thing. ive been thinking the same thing and i cant come up with an answer. but every time i say something about it to my friends they just think im being hard on myself (maybe i am and its just my low self-esteem kicking in) but i honestly dont understand ha. i guess i dont really have any advice, but i know how you feel.

plus, he doesn't know that i know he likes me so i feel really awkward around him because i don't want him to know and make things even worse.

are you sure that without knowing it you might actually have a lil bit of feelings for him to, and thats why u feel self concious about what you look like around him. I had kinda the same situation happen to me, turned him down then a few months later he got a gf and thats what made me realise i actually kida liked him too.

Psh, I'm the last person to go to for guy advice, mainly because I have asolutely zero expericence in that field. Like, all the guys where I live are either ugly or jerks, and none of them have liked me, so... yeah. But that sounds really awkward. Like, really really really awkward.

I think maybe, if he does ask you out again, just try to explain to him that you'd feel better that you two just remain friends. I mean, it might hurt him, but if you don't want to be with him like that, then shouldn't he know? It might be rough for a little after that, but if he's really a nice guy, he should bounce back and accept the fact that you see him as just a friend.
