Dying to be thin (in need of people with experience) - Comments

  • I totally agree with you. It's not just media, we are the one who support that ideas, they're just selling. But people can be so stupid and yea like you said most of them can't think with their own heads. Instead of that, they're following to whatever media says it's cool. I really hate that and I wish they would stop.
There's too much people suffering from this and that's why I think that ED are diseases of our modern world, but all that we do is turn our backs to it because we live in a world that except only perfection and troubles are not one of them. instead of that we just pretend that they don't exist. So cruel of us I have to say.

And yeas everybody used to say that fat people are unhappy because of their bodies and low self-esteem. Well I am fat and there are times that I don't feel good about myself, but it's never too serious. I love my body, I do.
But I think that the thinner people are more they want perfections (you know belly mussels, no cellulite and stuff like that) which make them even more unhappy with their bodies.

And one more think, don't hate your body or something. Everybody has it's own beauty and even if it's hard sometimes, having the lowest self-esteem or hating yourself for the way you look... this are the thinks that destroys your life. You are the way you think you are. If you're happy with your body, no one will have problems with it too. Plus better self-esteem leads to happiness and that's much better than depression.
So start loving your body, you're beautiful the way you are.

  • Sometimes I wish things had been turned the other way around. I wish it was considered 'beautiful' to be bigger, maybe even overweight. I think plus-sized models are much better looking than stick-thin ones. Girls with curves and bigger thighs are much prettier in my opinion. But, that again is putting a label on beauty. I wish no one had a specific way to look in order to be beautiful.
I struggle a lot with my self-esteem. I'm about fifty pounds overweight at a guess and I loathe my body. I wish I wasn't though. I wish I could accept it.
If people weren't such followers, the media would wouldn't have been blamed for all this. If people would do things for themselves, instead of looking cool 'cause the media says it is, people wouldn't have such problems with self-esteem.

  • Well my intention is not to get anorexic or something, I just want to know everything about it to write a book. I agree with you, ALL young people should know about it.

That's why I'm doing it, I'll write a book in hope that it would at least help somebody or if not that just to let people know that there are people who are aware of this problem.

And I hope your friend is ok now. I wouldn't want anyone to go through that.

  • I hate eating disorders, but i'm glad your educated on them and know the dangers, most young people should..

I had a friend whose become so obsessed with the idea of being thin, that she studied Anorexia so she could hide starving herself from us.

  • I agree on the part that it's not only the media's fault, because the media just gives people what they want, but the amount of influence they give out is extremely higher then it used to be, let's say 10-20 years ago, since the media is everywhere now.
But I also think that they shouldn't be so irresponsible. Sure, esthetic's is one thing, like in fashion, models need to be skinny, or else they don't get hired, I think that's pretty fu-ked up, uhm, hello, the rest of the world is not stick tiny and we're all tired of watching photoshopped pictures of models, actresses, singers with a ton of make-up on themselves.
That's how young girls get the impression they're not good enough.
