Well if you want to make it big and all that stuff, try getting a deeper understanding of music. Or just come up with some crazy drum beats, awesome bass lines, and guitar solos.

    v. Well then they're definitely not going to make it far. Like I said, it's a matter of if everyone can work well together. I don't really care if you sound good, technology these days can fix that.

v They're already all fighting and throwing insults. They only stay together because they sound good together (and they do, truly; they're awesome with the instrumentals, and she has a great voice). However, that is not a good reason for a band to stay together, odd as it might sound, and I wish they'd learn that.

    v. They aren't ever going to make it far if they talk about her. 'Cause when/if she finds out, sh*t hits fan, and all hell will break loose between the band.

v Mmm-hmm, especially the whiny brats part. I still don't know how another friend's band is still together, when their lead singer is such a diva. All they do is shit-talk about her whenever she's not around. Clearly, they're probably not going to make it very far if they can't even get along.

Along on Dancing Caveman's thoughts, yeah. Make sure you aren't hiring power-hungry people. Or whiny brats. Or anyone of that sort. It gets nasty, obviously.

v Thank my mom for that one. She always had the rule, "If you or your brother doesn't like what's on television, change it until you both like what's on." It totally applies for anything band-related. Thanks, Mom!

Dancing Caveman, depends on what kind of a psychopath they are. Green Jellÿ has a couple of psychopaths in it (trust me on that one - one of those douchebags dumped gasoline in my eyes, once) but they seem to be doing okay. You just have to find your balance.

Make sure no one is a psychopath, either. That never works out.

That's a good rule Jinxeh. It would make things easier, instead of attempting to make everyone agree.

v I've always gone by the rule of, "If even one person is slightly unhappy with the band name...then change it until every single person is happy with it." It's just so much easier that way.

Make sure that all your buds can get along before you go anywhere. Discuss the names and song ideas together before even attempting to play live anywhere or putting your name out there.
    Trust me.
    I've been there.

v You just reminded me! Definitely make sure everyone else involved is really willing to work as hard as you. If even one member slacks off, it's trouble. That includes people you recruit for touring, too; even for stage stuff. My friend's band once hired this guy to act as a roadie...what a joke he was. And because of him, they ended up royally messing up gigs because he was messing up with the equipment. Every person involved with your band is important, even if they don't play an instrument. Just some helpful advice.

Go for local support before you automatically try to "make it big," as well. Every band that gets big starts with a small but loyal fanbase, and what better place to start a fanbase than where you started out?

Agreed with Jinxeh and Dancing Caveman... always have a back up plan. It helps. And it definitely is no walk in the park. It's a lot of work. So make sure you have people who are willing to work.

And Jinxeh does know her music, if you listen just a bit to her, she's giving great advice on how to make it.

v Gerard I know for a fact that Jinxeh knows her music. She knows what acid rock is. And she wasn't being a "hater", it was her opinion.

    *ahem* 1. I am not a "hater."
    2. That is not acid rock what you described. To be in a band, you have to at least know what sound you are gonna have, and be able to describe it correctly.

v Yeah, agreed. It's a lot more difficult to even make something of yourself in the local sense when it comes to fame, when you're in a band. It's a lot of hard work, which I don't think a lot of people realize.

You're asking for opinions, so why are you deleting comments? I won't pretend like I know the inner-workings of big-time bands, but I'm friends with well-known band members, I've been on tour and I know how things go down there, and I at least do have a bit of common sense when it comes to it. I wasn't being rude - I'm just being honest. If you really want your band to make it some day, you need to find your own sound, and not base it on the sound of other bands that already exist.

Make sure you have a back-up plan. I thought I was gonna be some huge rockstar when I was 13. That didn't happen.
