Even looking at how many people are IN jail to begin with, how many have committed heinous crimes...it's horrible.

Ok it make cost alot of money to keep inmates in jail, but could that be naming a price on someones life? That is if the inmate has commited murder.

Ghosthorse i agree of course we cant punish everyone in the same way, it should depend on how serious the crime is.

And Finito-Neato i dont agree with the death sentance either. It's murder.

Agreed. Criminals like that should go to prison for life. The death penalty is wrong, though, just as murder is. In prison, criminals can be, uh... Raped back to proper human beings.

If execution was still used as a predominant way of "serving justice", prisons wouldn't be over crowded. But it's such a controversial topic both to kill a murderer or to let them out after a few years, especially with the many men and women falsely accused and found guilty. While murderers are more likely to be sentenced to life, men and women who have raped and traumatized their victims are sentenced to several years and probation- never mind the chance they might go back to their ways after they're released.

We can't punish everyone the same way. Crimes differ, and punishments should as well. I believe that is why the US had Guantánamo Bay, and why former President Bush had signed to imprison international terrorists there. Of course that also included suspected terrorists, another reason to overcrowding. You can't send a petty shoplifter to prison for half their life.

The problem isn't that there are so many people committing crimes, but that people are too afraid of others and immediately assume the worst of everyone.

I completely agree. When they say life these days they mean like 24 years or something. That isn't life!
