It does go by fast. I feel like I just started, and I'm already a senior. It flies by like you wouldn't believe. And you don't have to join anything. I can't help you on the showers thing, because none of the high schools I've gone to have had us shower after gym.

The first month or so is kind of rough. But soon you get into the routine, and then it's just school, not some scary torture chamber. I'm not going to tell you that it's going to be glamorous or anything, but it's not as bad as you think it's going to be.

i agree with everyone else, high school goes by so fast. I just finished my freshman year, and starting sophmore year in two weeks, and it does go by. I met so many new people, who soon became my friends, and had a whole lot of expirences that I wouldn't take back (even though a lot of them were crappy) because they have thought me what NOT to do this year.

Enjoy it, because one day your going to miss it. And always remember to study for finals and not wing it...trust me on that

Don't be nervous, it really isn't that bad. It went so quickly for me, and it's really easy. (I'll be a junior next year.)

The first month of freshman year was rough for me. We didn't have to shower after gym, though. Haha. You really don't have to join anything that you don't want to. Some people do because they enjoy it. I, for one, don't do any after school things in any clubs and I'm going to be a senior. Our school is really difficult to navigate here. I get lost really easily, just going to the gym.

Personally, I left public school after a couple of months into 9th grade. I turned to cyber school instead and liked it a lot better for the first year and a half and then my grades began to slip and now I'm going back. I'm excited to see my friends, but that's it. I'm not happy that I have to take gym all year because Gym is a requirement every year for each student at the school. Even the athletes... Which is ridiculous. My dancing doesn't count and that's a load of crap...

Looking back at freshman year, it's not as bad as I thought it would have been. But if I hadn't left when I did... I would be dead right now. =/

It's not as bad as you think it is. Trust me, high school flies by. I still can't believe I'm already a Junior...
Tennis sounds really fun. I wanted to join my school's tennis team but I don't have the experience. *sigh*

You don't have to join any activities. I'm a sophomore and I never joined an extracirricular activities and I'm doing just fine. It's not required, just if you want to do it.

I personally love high school. Some of the classes can be boring but I don't see my friends often and school gives me a chance to see my friends and to socialize with people I even don't consider my friends.

High school is overwhelming at first, but once you get used to it then it won't seem as overwhelming. You'll enjoy it a lot. (:
And the summer will come fast, high school does pass by fast. My freshman year went by really quickly.
