Edgar Allen Poe has got to be one of the best authors!! I like Red Death by him. George Orwell is another great classic. We own their collections plus classic horror collections, the Complete Works of Charles Dickens, and the complete works of Agatha Christy (did I spell that right??). What can I say? We like classics. Some people I know are like that too. I doubt they have even heard of Poe or Orwell. Shame, they're great writers.October 28th, 2009 at 10:22am

Poe is my favorite author. I just don't see how people my age think he's stupid and idiotic. I don't blame you class though, they're only in 8th grade so their minds are probably incapable of being captured by the way he writes and his amazing vocabulary. One day they'll understand him .
For now, just be glad you can understand Poe. It means you're more mature than your classmates ^_^October 28th, 2009 at 01:21am -
Poe is one of my favorites. I distinctly remember reading A Tell-Tale Heart in 8th grade, and some of the morons in there were saying that Poe was crazy and that the story sucked.
It was funny because a few years later, Good Charlotte became really popular with The Young and the Hopeless, and there was that one song that was based off of that story, and the same people who had said that Poe was crazy and stuff where all of the sudden talking about how cool that story was because of Good Charlotte.
Pfft.October 28th, 2009 at 12:45am -
Wow,my seventh grade class last year read the same story and I of course was mesmerised by Poe's great work. But everyone was asking how this was a classic and that it was so stupid and that they can write better than him. I'm really ashamed of most people our age for not recognizeing how chilling it was.
I know why Sweeney Todd is and the Phantom of the Opera but it's only because I've seen the movies.October 28th, 2009 at 12:00am -
That is so freaking weird, we did the same thing in our English class today! =O
EVEN THE SAME PIECE OF WORK!
I adore him, really. He's one of my favorite writers. Today, I seemed to be the only one who actually got his work, got what it meant without the teacher having to go off and explain it to them. My favorite of his is, The Raven.October 27th, 2009 at 10:58pm -
I love Poe. My favorite by him has to be Dreamland. Now, I'm insanely terrible at getting meanings from song lyrics and poems, but that doesn't mean that I can't appreciate/love it. I've got his complete poetry collection, and it never gets old to read.
And as for those people in your class, they're just...culturally challenged. One of my closest friends refuses to read poetry because she says it's all boring and emo-like. She irks me.October 27th, 2009 at 10:57pm -
I love him. I have a book with all of his work in it and it's fantastic =)October 27th, 2009 at 10:53pm

I'm not a big fan of Poe. But each to their own. I struggle to get into most classic literature. I appreciate it. Just struggle to really read it etc.October 27th, 2009 at 10:45pm

I love a bit of Poe. One of my favourites is Elenora because it sounds like my name!
They're just tools in your class, forget them.October 27th, 2009 at 10:40pm -
I adore Poe xD
I'm reading some of his works now, I love it!
I've also read Sweeney Todd, haha.
By the way, the last sentence didn't make sense.October 27th, 2009 at 10:37pm
We read that like, 5 months ago or so.
He's an awesome writer.
Comes next to Stephen King
