There's more to poetry than depression and tragedy. - Comments

  • I have to agree with you I mean even the depressing poems I have get over looked, yeah sure some of my early stuff was like that but I have other work too that gets overshadowed because people automatically assume that everybody has poems about depression and death and it's all negative I mean I'm not the happiest person in the world but I do have some happy poems you know....At least now I know why I can never get feedback on the poems I actually take a bit of time to work on :/ that really puts a hinder on people who are trying to become better writers...

  • My smile was like that of a gingerbread man; my following demise similar, too, though my flesh made for a different course. My thighs and heart stewed, eaten by the father... his eyes and buttons crumbling within the milk jaws of the son.

... emotional relevance: I was well happy before some fat bloke overcooked me and shit.

I have personal experience with being someone's dinner, of course. Don't say I don't 'cause you weren't there. It was a past life... :-(

  • Poetry for me is a quick way to get my feelings out. Rarely any of my poetry is happy because I only write it when I'm sad or something. So that's mostly what it is.

  • Poetry for some people (including me) is considered therapy. If something is making us sad or angry, we put it down on paper. It's like when you vent to someone about your feelings. It's art so people are gonna listen.

  • I agree Katie, things don't need to be technical to portray something, all it needs to do is create some sort of emotional response that can be considered beautiful whether it's positive or negative.

  • Trust me, I know what you mean and agree whole-heartedly. I went through that writing phase myself a few years back, though. Where I thought for poetry to be deep, it had to be full of darkness and blood. Pfffft. I've learned recently that not only does it not have to be darkness and blood, it doesn't have to necessarily be "deep." Sometimes it feels good to indulge in simplicity.

  • I kind of want to write poetry now -- the happy kind.

... And I'm not exactly a "poetry person". Huh.
