Modeling is not about beauty anymore. The reason why they use skinny models is that they want the right kind of "look" because is looks more interesting in photo-shoots and more sophisticated on the runway.

Also you need to see that some girls such as myself can't help being skinny just as larger girls can't help being more curvier. Body's come in all different shapes and sizes.

Now I see what you are saying. Yes, the number of girls, even at a young age trying to be what the world whats them to be is getting high. Yes, they look at the people in those magazines and think they must be like them. But honestly I don't believe it is the models. You see, models are skinny because the magazine wants it to look like the clothing would look like on a hanger. It's supposed to be like that. Is it taken to extremes by girls now a days? Yes. Because just because those girls are in the magazine doesn't make them beautiful it just makes them the body shape for modeling the clothing as if it was on a hanger. Maybe I just think this because I am skinny. I just am, and I'm pretty sick of people saying I'm sick. I'm not sick I'm just me. It's just as bad as saying fat people are sick. Yes, some need to stop eating so much for health and yes some skinny people are sick. But it's not all.
    Daaang this is long.

    a) it's the trend. models used to be more voluptuous

    b) models are clothes hangers. that's they're job. you're not supposed to notice the hanger and i guess it's easier to not notice a super-skinny girl?

not saying that i agree with it. just a discussion my mother and i had.

I just say that money is money. If these people can make money off of photo shopping people's body parts away, more power to them. As people grow up I think that we're all smart enough to realize that you don't have to be skinny like people in the magazines.

I think people who get freaked out because magazine's are killing girls around the world are over rated.

I hate this argument. Some of us are naturally very skinny, and not at all anorexic. Me and two of my roommates are all size 0s, and two of us eat all the time, while the other is suffering from a disease...not really her fault, you know. Skinny = anorexia, and whenever you do see a girl that shockingly thin in a magazine, you can bet that's most likely the liquify tool in Photoshop causing it, not the model's actual thinness.

I'm not trying to be rude at all, I hope you understand that, but I hope that you see what you're doing right there,
your opinion is the exact thing you talked about in your journal, that people "think that they have to look this way."
The opinions of magazine editors, clothing designers, the general public , etc are what contribute to the growing number of people who are NOT what people's idea of "good-looking."
by saying only certain people look better in a certain item, you instantly create insecurities for people who HAVE worn that item, and now have doubts about whether they should have.

If people stopped worrying about what other people wore and whether it suited their size or not, then the problem would not be so monstrous in the first place.

Well, it's my opinion. I think wide leg trousers are more fitted to a larger girl/women's shape. Some clothing looks better on slimmer girls and some clothing looks better on larger girls, that is my opinion.

your bias right there is the exact same thing many people do for skinny people: "it looks better on them" but you did it in reverse.

rae.; I'm not saying slimmer girls aren't allowed to wear wide leg trousers, I just think that it looks better on larger women.

and the urls won't work because mibba puts a space in them somewhere, so you have to take out the space after you copy and paste it into your browser.

although this is true for a majority of magazines and other fashion-related media, there are some that encourage a healthy body image.
Seventeen magazine regularly features different sets of girls with separate body types in clothing that best suits their "shape."
And also, I don't agree that skinny people shouldn't wear "wide leg trousers because it's not meant for their shape, wide leg trouser are suited best on larger women." The wide leg is a purposeful aspect of the pants, and just because someone has thin legs doesn't mean they can't wear them.

Aggh. Skinny models make me cringe. my friend used to bulimic and now her body is totally fucked up inside. not in a nasty way, but she has to eat seriously carefully. it's more dangerous to be underweight than overweight.

and apparently "plus sized" - or normal sized - girls are starting to be used more, but it's still ridiculous. and look at this article thingy, it just proves why "plus sized" models are better :D

I hate it. It f*cks with girls' self esteem something awful.

The problem is that women's body types go in and out of fashions just like the clothes do. The models just don't look healthy. For a model who's at least five-foot-nine, she shouldn't be 90 pounds. It's ridiculously dangerous.

I agree completely. I myself am a twig, it's not that enjoyable. I have a high metabolism though, so it's natural for me

I'd be much happier if those magazines used a variety of body shapes for different looks, it would hopefully smash the whole 'image' of anorexia.

That story about the seven year old made me cringe. =/ What has the world come to?
