I have a friend called Giulia, it's pronounced Julia, but loads of people call her Gwilia or Goolia. And, I have a friend called Yae Joon. People always think they're smart by saying what they think is how to "properly" say it (saying something like Ywi Goon) but it's just pronounced exactly the way it's spelled, like Yay June.

One of my best friends is named Schon (Pronounced Sean).
Substitute teachers always struggle with her name...one once called her scone.
Instead, we all call her by her middle name, Michelle.

    Ha, consider yourself lucky.
My friend's name is part of her mum's and part of her dad's, and they're both Irish.
No one can pronounce it, and she's long given up correcting them.
    It's "Brinagh" (Br-eye-nah)
She goes by Brii (Bree) but some people even have trouble with that...
    Poor kids.
