I know. I'm not judging people. I just don't buy the whole thing of it. Some people would believe in something if it hadn't already been laid out for them, but I think not everyone one.

And well, not necessarily. In most cases, true, but in some, it is more the religion. Jehovah's Witnesses don't believe they're doing their religion right unless they are knocking door to door and trying to convert people. Which I think is sorta wrong. I don't go up to them asking them to donate blood to the abortion wing of the hospital. Y'know. Just sayin'.

V A lot people who believe in the religions available today would believe in something even if they had to construct it themselves. And even the ones who wouldn't have searched long and hard for something to believe in can still get a kick out of what they do believe, regardless of its origins.

Nobody is ever forcing you to buy your beliefs prepackaged like your breakfast cereal or subscribe to organised religion. A lot of religious people personalise their beliefs- those who do subscribe to dogma do it by choice, and you can't really judge their motivations for it. It's easy to think that religion is a pain in the butt if you grew up without it or had it forced on you and didn't like it, but a lot of people are just grateful to have it already there for them. In other cases, they might become apathetic or turn their back on religion altogether. It's all very subjective.

And when you're talking about people forcing their opinions on others, that's less a question of religion and more an aspect of the person.

True. But would people believe it today if it hadn't been believed in the old fashioned days? The Tudor days, etc, when the Pope was more or less in charge of goings on? I don't know that they would.

I think that even if religion is just to improve the quality of one's life, it's got too much emphasis. To me, it should just be a "okay, you believe this, I believe that" thing and that should be the end. Of course people get defensive of their opinions but I don't see why people feel the need to force their opinions on others.

You can look at religion as imposed in the Marxist sense, but I think that's a bit two-dimensional. People also believe things because they find it improves the quality of their lives.

Personally however, I don't hold with any religion, or anything else metaphysical for that matter. I'm a real Occam's Razor kind of guy, because that's just what I prefer.
